I gave Ronan chicken for lunch today (Wednesday, 1pm) and forgot that the chicken was purchased on Monday night.
It was too old...
I made him sick :crying: :(
He woke up vomiting just before. He had a shower with dad while I cleaned up and is now asleep in our bed (he was so happy to be there too, I might add). I have moved the monitor in there so I can hear if he is sick again but I doubt he will be.
So it's all over, but I feel awful. How old was that chicken? I didn't give it much thought except that I counted 1.5 days from when I got it... but my mistake was that I assumed it was fresh on Monday night.
Far out I feel awful :( I can't believe I did this to my son. The worst bit: It happened once before, ages ago. Another stupid mistake.
I need DH to keep the fridge up-to-date for me, I know it shouldn't be his job (he does most of the cooking as it is) but I just don't trust myself anymore
Thanks for listening..

:hugs: Don't be too hard on yourself.
Just keep in mind that most food poisoning occurs between 6 and 48 hours after the contaminated food has been consumed - so it might not have been the chicken that made him ill.
:hugs: I know you feel bad but it may not have been the chicken at all. It could have been any number of things and whatever you fed him would create the same reaction.
Salmonella poisoning usually lasts for a number of hours, (like eight or more). Just remember to keep up his fluids if he doesn't sleep through the night. Small sips frequently.
I hope you feel better and that he sleep peacefully tonight and is right as rain in the morning.
:hugs: Don't feel bad Em.
If it makes you feel any better Oliver once ate almost an entire tub of french onion dip! He was sick everywhere that night!!! I didn't realise he'd had so much of it!!
DH has to throw things out of our fridge too... no one is perfect all the time :)

Oh everyone.... thanks so much. :hugs: :hugs: I feel so much better. I get down about these things because I almost feel like I am garanteed to stuff up, and that it's just a matter of time before I do. I have high standards when it comes to what the kids eat and general cleanliness etc but I am so forgetful and my head is so muddled at the moment. I don't know whether I'm coming or going.. That's not an excuse though. I just wish it never happened!
And I have just remembered that Ariene had some too- just a little bit though, and I don't think she actually consumed it- just chewed and spat out. But that might still be enough... Far out, I hope she is going to be ok tonight! :fingerscrossed:

Oh Em :hugs: Please don't beat yourself up! You are a great mum! :hugs:
Cooked Chicken from deli etc can always be dodgy unfortunately we never know if one is or not until we consume it! You can't be blamed for that hon!
How did the night go?
Gosh Emma don't feel so bad honey :hugs: These things happen hey :hugs:
I would have still used the chicken then without a second thought! I always get mine from Red Rooster though where I know it hasn't been sitting in warmers all day... (Hubby managed the store for 13 years LOL :p)
I hope you are all feeling better today babe- cheer up! :D

Thanks guys!!
Trish, you make me laugh! Yeah I sound like a dag, I know :p
But that was it for chucking, he was fine after. He slept in the bed with me and I got kicked all night, and at 2am he wanted to get up... "wake up mum... MUM WAKE UP!!" :banghead: but I convinced him to stay in bed and use a quiet voice before Ariene woke! Which she did anyway, 3 times, but was never sick herself. Phew!
Now to go and hang out the 3rd load of spewy washing!
