I think the condition is called gastroscisis (not sure of spelling). My niece's baby had it and wore a bag for a while then at a month or so old he had an operation to correct it.
She had a perfect pregnancy (just a few more scans than normal) and a perfect labour (natural).

This is gastroschisis I think? (I don't think I spelt that right).
I know a girl on another board who's baby had this.
It's not generally life threatening for baby, especially if it's only fairly small.
Sometimes they deliver the baby via c/section though the girl I know had her baby vaginally.
Then the baby has an operation a day or so after the birth and they put the bowel back in through the belly button and that's the end of it.
It must be pretty distressing to find this out but I'm hopeful your little one will be fine :hugs:

Thanx Girls yer Its our first child together and It is only small, but I will be getting sum scans done at Kind Edward fairly shortly to see if everything is ok. The Doc told he us today that Sometimes it can go back into place by itself, Were really worried so stressful as it is other then the bowel the baby is growing perfectly normal and its looks to be a little baby girl. Thanks again girls xoxo

That is great news that it is only a small amount of the bowel outside the body. I hope and will have my fingers crossed for you:fingerscrossed: that the bowel goes back into place before bubba's born.
Hi Chick
I have moved your thread. I think that you might get a bit more support here than in the research area.
I have also heard that this condition is normally able to be corrected by surgery following the birth. I hope that all goes well for you.
Cheers
:fingerscrossed: :fingerscrossed: that it resolves itself and all is perfect.
I am on the opposite side of the road here - one of the carer's at my kids previous centre gave birth to a daughter with the condition. They weren't nearly so lucky though and they lost her 48hrs after she was born.
I only shared that so that you can see that there is another side to the condition, but all my hopes for you are that your bubba will be just fine.
I hope the scans at king eddie go well and that the bowels go back inside the abdomanil wall,
I know a litle boy who was born with his bowels on the outside he was bornat king eddies and was transferesd by the neotatel transfer untit to PMH and had his his operation to corect it the same day, he now 3 and is doing great, im praying for you that everything goes back into place and bubs is born completely healthy,
I know it doesnt make you feel any better but you and bubs are in great hands king eddie and PMH if he ends up having to go there are great hosptitals and do wonderful things these days :hugs:

hi,
i felt like i had to reply to your post because i know what u are going through. our baby was diagnosed at 32 weeks with a diaphragmatic hernia (her stomach was pushed up through a hernia in her diaphram and was squashing her heart and lungs)
i know how scared u must be. its terrible. im so sorry that this is happening to you and your partner, it was our first baby too and we just wanted to be excited about everything instead of being so sad and worried. i dont know about your babys particular hernia or if it is life threatening. our baby had a 50 50 chance of survival. we are so lucky that she pulled through surgery like a champion and we got to take her home at 3 weeks (much earlier than anyone expected) shes now 6 weeks old and u would never know she was born with such a severe defect - no lasting problems!
i just wanted to let u know that doctors are absolute miracle workers, and at least u found out earlier rather than later so u can take all the steps u need to to make sure u can have the best outcome. if u have any questions about anything im happy yo answer.
try to keep your chin up, i know its hard sometimes!!! goodluck with everything
xxxx carly
