I am on the mini pill due to breastfeeding. Today I read something that worried me and am wondering if people know more about it:

You shouldnt take the mini pill if you have a history of/currently have depression

the mini pill can increase ovarian cyst occurance and if you have had one you should not take the mini pill

They are not overly reliable.
Antibiotics can affect them.
Taking them at the wrong time can affect them

They are not for people who are worried about weight gain..........they can cause weight gain.

I currently have depression and have lost an ovary due to a large cyst........and I am now questioning the reliability as I am on antibiotics at the moment as well.................I am also worried about the weight gain aspect as i started gaining weight while taking them and my body image is part of the thing that depresses me most.

Does anyone have any info re: the mini pill because my dr did not give me any info and the pill packet didnt have a leaflet in it  so I am wondering if I should be on them.

DH also wants to know if anyone has fell pregnant while on the pill or mini pill.......................(he wanted me to start a poll but im not sure how):D

my mum got pregnant while on the pill so did my sister so i was worried ... but luckily i was off the pill when i got pregnant... what kind of mini pill are you on ... if you are on microlut, i still might have my leaflet and can scan it for you ... or just do a search on the web and most drug companies post their leaflets on their websites ...
but i was told that it is only effective for 27 hours so you have to take it at the same time every day to be effective and it says on the sticker that the chemist puts on the box that its effectiveness is affected by antibiotics so really if you are on antibiotics is wont be as effective ...

i dont have any clue about the other issues i.e. deppression, cyst etc ... but i have and always been bad at taking the pill at the same time so i stopped taking it ...

Does the Dr know your history? If they do then it sounds like you need to get a new Dr.

Anti-biotics affect al forms of the pill and with the mini-pill you need to use condoms for 48hrs after finishing your anti-biotics. (same as when you forget to take it which by the way you have a 3 hr window with)

I know a number of women who've fallen pregnant on the pill the mini pill in particular as they were not aware of anti-biotics or tummy bugs etc affecting them. or just plain forgetting to take the mini pill.

The side effects you described all sound the same as the normal pill too. If you read all the 'possible' side effects of most medications you wouldn't take any of them - so try not to worry too much about it.

People who fall pregnant on the mini-pill often forget to take it at the same time each day - that part is really important. I would talk to your GP again, and make sure he knows your history & concerns, but some people use the mini-pill as their main form of contraception, even if not b/f as they can are intolerant of one of the hormones in the regular pill.

My GP never asked my history (i only started seeing her) she just put me on it................but the pill makes me sick so I dont think i wana be on it anyway. Apparently it makes all females in our family sick. Mum couldnt take em.
