Im not sure if this is the right area to post but lately my son has been chewing on his cot rail and has flakes of white paint on his face. I am gathering the paint is not toxic as it is a new cot however i would love some reasurrance and maybe hear from other mums whos kid have or are doing the same thing.

Our bub is not in the cot yet, but his rails have plastic covers on them so they can't chew the wood. It came with them so i am not sure if they are available to buy separately?

Alot of kids chew on their cot so that is normal. I too would be interested if their is anything you can do to prevent it though.

Rachel

My eldest daughter who is now eight was a big cot chewer. Her cot didn't have the plastic coverings. I was able to buy at the time padded fabric coverings that velcroed tight at least over the top of the rails - which were the most tempting for her. From what I can recall (which isn't much these days) they were not that expensive and they were either from Target or Baby Co.

Good Luck

Hehehe well im not experiencing this but there is still time yet :p
But my cousin was an avid cot chewer so my aunty even borrowed a metal cot from a friend to try to curb his habit to find he even chewed into the metal
Dont worry most bubs do it at some stage !

I wouldn't worry about cot chewing if the cot is relatively new ... I was more worried about the constant chewing on supermarket trolleys!:o

My Bub's cot is somewhat of a family heirloom. My mum was in it as a bub, I was in it as a bub and now my bubs are in it. When we first pulled the cot out we stripped the old paint off and had to heavily sand and re-smooth the cot rails from all the teeth marks. I even remember chewing on the cot. It felt good which is probably why I did it. Anyhow - back on track. My point is - most kids do it so don't worry about your bub's actions.

But if you want a cheap temporary solution - tied some fabric strips around the top of the rails. You can use hankies (if you have enough) or use a towel along the rail that is fastened with string. You will need to be sure you secure the loose ends very well so as not to cause a choking hazard. That should get you by until you can purchase some teething guards for the cot or until bub gets over the whole chewing stage!!:D
