Hi Tania,

I am a member of Australian Doulas. We have about 12 doulas currently taking clients in Perth.

Our fees range from $300 to $800, depending on experience, or you can hire a trainee doula for expenses only (around $100 to $150).

You can read our profiles at www.australiandoulas.com.au (http://www.australiandoulas.com.au). I am Cathy Cook and you can also read another profile on me at www.findadoula.com.au (http://www.findadoula.com.au).

Please let me know if you have any questions. All our girls are happy to talk to anyone considering employing a doula.

All the best.

hi cathy, i actually read your profile on australian doulas........ :D how long have you been a doula for?

can you tell me some more about the role as a doula?

hypothetically, if i were to ask you to be my doula, what would happen? during the pregnancy, when would you see me? during labour, are you there the whole time? what is your main role in labour? after the birth, do i see you ever again?

arrgghh so many questions!!!! i dont know much about doulas.

Hi Tania

I'm also Perth Doula and part of Australian doulas (although I haven't got around to putting my profile on their website yet!) I do have my own website which you can find lots of information about doulas, including what services I personally offer, benefits of having a doula present at your birth, fees, etc. That address is http://www.freewebs.com/doulajane As Cathy said, doulas fees tend to range quite a bit depending on experience.

As well as the Australian Doulas website, you could also take a look at http://www.dona.org. You'll find lots of great information on there. This is Doulas Of North America and they are the largest doula organisation in the world with over 6000 doulas worldwide.

Hope you find this information useful!

Good luck!

Doula Jane

Hi Tania,

I have been a doula for about 12 months now. Briefly, I would expect to see you a few times during your pregnancy - the earlier the better because the more time we have to get to know each other, the better for you. I would come to you in labour at whatever stage you wanted, if you wanted me there in early labour I would be there, if you wanted to wait until you felt you needed more support then I would wait until you needed me. My role is defined by you and your partner. If your partner is keen to be hands-on then I would support him and suggest ways that he can support you. If your partner prefers to be your main emotional support but doesn't want the responsibility of making sure you are physically comfortable then that is where I can step in. So many variables :) Typically a birth package would include two postnatal visits. I can also be employed to do extra postnatal help for you at an hourly rate.

Hope this has helped a bit. Please don't hesitate to call me if you want to chat some more. I really don't mind. Might be easier.
