Hi All

Just wondering if it's normal for an almost one year old to gring their teeth. It's driving me nuts and I don't know what to do about it. She has just learned to walk and I am wondering if it's her way of focusing.

She has been grinding her teeth occasionally since she got the top and bottom two but lately it is constant. I find myself giving her rusks and arrowroots just to stop the grinding for a few minutes.

Anyone else with a grinder? Should I be taking her to the dentist?
Cheers :D

Angelina, Where do I start!?
I have a grinder and she is so loud and it too drives me NUTS!!!!!
She will be 4 in April and has been grinding for a LONG time. I have spoken to various professionals about it and there is nothing you can do at such a young age. They are only milk teeth and will not affect her adult teeth and she will grow out of it before then. It is definitly a sensory thing, the feeling and sensation it creates in the mouth. She will grow out of it I assure you so I wouldn't worry too much. Just tap her chin and tell her "Stop grinding" to remind her that she is doind it and it is not appropriate. That's what we do with Em.

My boy does it when he sleeps! It is sometimes so loud that it wakes me and I sleep two rooms and two closed doors away from him!

I hope that he will grow out of it ... as far as I can see, there really isn't anything I can do about it!

Thankyou for posting this as I was just wondering the same thing!Although my grinder is 5 and a half:eek: He only grinds in his sleep but it's driving me nuts. It sounds like his teeth are about to crack any second!Hmmm any advice would be great. I even listened to the oldies who said it is worms but after worming him, washing everything blah blah blah he still does it!

My four year old could be heard down the hallway griding her teeth in her sleep. She did it since she was about 3 and but come to think of it now I have been noticing less of it now. She's five and a half now.
When she was four to five it was at its worst and I it was driving me crazy, so when she was awake, I told her that she was "crunching" her teeth when she was sleeping and that it's not a good thing because she might accidently break them.
Then whenever I heared her doing it, i'd kind of gently nudge her and tell her to stop "crunching" her teeth. It was so frustrating so I persevered. My dh thought I was nuts.
I don't know if that is what helped to slow it down but I tend to think that these things might be tension or slightly stress related.
I mean being a kid is tough, having to learn so much from scratch, theres so much to see and do, I'm sure it gets a bit overwhelming at times.
Oh and apparently, I was a tooth grinder too as a child.:D

Oh I was begining to think I was the ONLY 1!!!
There is not much you can do unfortunately. While they still have their milk teeth it isn't so bad. You do have to worry if they are constantly grinding when they get their 'big' teeth as they have to last the rest of their lives and may need some form of treatment or mouth guard to help them stop and preserve thier teeth.

So we just have to stick it out and try to block it out as much as possible. I know it is VERY hard, hey, I've been putting up with it for 2.5 yrs! and I'm still here and sane....well most of the time anyway lol!!!
