Just thought Id say hello to all April/June mums out there. I have a little girl that was born on April 29th and seem to be having the same issue a few times a night with settling.
Ive noticed a few other mums have been experiencing the same thing with their bubs as me in terms of putting the baby in half asleep and then having them wake up, followed by having to rock them to sleep again. Such a long and tiring process sometimes but I do expect it.
Just wondering if anyone wanted to pop down a few suggestions for settling for us new mums?
That would be great!

Rhythmic patting (on the bottom on good)
Rocking/Cradling
Walking with a pram, cuddling, baby sling etc
Baby massage
Swaddling or firmly wrapping baby
Bath
Use of pacifier
If it is colic, try placing bub over the length of your arm in a football style as to relieve pressure off the tummy.
Nappy change
Soothing and rythmic sounds, music, vaccume cleaners, washing machines or make a sh sh sh sh noise
Baby swing/bouncer
HAND BABY OVER TO DAD!

I like the last idea!!:laughing:
I like to keep that one as a last resort too!
Ive noticed DD1 likes to be burped over my shoulder instead of just on the knee. She seems to bring up a lot more air that way and I think thats whats been irritating her. I cant recall the hospital showing me how to burp her just how to b/feed her!
I love the swaddling idea, the cuddling, singing and am constantly checking nappies. Not keen on the pacifier though not that ive tried.
DH thinks I need to be a bit more patient which Im trying to be. We know she wont fall asleep in the cot with her eyes wide open, not yet anyways.
Im sure there are heaps of ideas out there! Glad I got the burping worked out!

If you can get a copy, I recommend the book "Babywise". My friend gave me her copy a few weeks ago and I wish I had had it from birth because I feel like the first few weeks are so important in implementing a routine. This book gives you the practical ideas for feed/play/sleep routine and it is pro-controlled crying. So if you are into that then that book can help keep you sane while implementing self-settling. If not than sorry I don't I have ohter suggestions :D

Also forgot to add that when baby gets colic/wind the trick is they find it harder to get out when they are crying/fussing etc, so try your best to get them in a relaxed state and it should come up nicely!
I find that as soon as I stand up she burps, maybe it is the altitude lol??!!!
Ebony also likes it if I hold her out in front (as if I am going to eat the bread at church kinda pose lol) so she can look at me and I gently hold her upright and gently bounce her.

Yeah, Nick likes that too, but be careful.....i was holding him out in front of me the other night talking to him, and out came a projectile puke, straight into my mouth and all down the front of me. not pleasant at all.

HAHAHA our babes are too alike Tan!!
DH was changing Eb's nappy and she started to fart... now this lil girl can FART and then she started to pee so he got squirted with a fine mist of farty pee
Best way I am finding to settle Tyson is to just tightly wrap him making sure his arms are in. He must feel very secure like this because I put him to bed awake and 5 mins later wrapped, he is asleep. He doesnt cry when he is wrapped.
Sometimes if they are unsettled due to wind and you just cant get a burp up normal ways, put them on their tummy, either on the couch, floor, cot or over your knee and rub their back or gently pat their back. Its a very good way of getting a burp out of them.

I also find that a gentle tilt backwards followed by tilting the bub forward (kinda like a slow rock back n forth) helps to bring those bubbles up!!
