I am 36 weeks pregnant this week and am starting to have terrible trouble sleeping because my thighs go numb and I toss and turn all night trying to relieve the dull ache. It's so frustrating!

Has anyone else experienced this? This is my second baby and I didn't get it in my first pregnancy. The only way I can get comfortable is by lying on my back but obviously can't do that for long as then everything else starts to tingle!

I go to sleep on one side with a pillow between my thighs and under my belly but within an hour I am turning over because of the numbness.

I have an appointment with my Obs on Wednesday and will ask her then but any suggestions or advice in the meantime would be great, thanks.

You poor thing ! You'll need your sleep before the big day !

I don't really have any suggestions, ML, except to wonder if you have a variation of Restless legs Syndrome (at least, I think that's what it's called).

I don't get it during preg. (though many women do, I'm told) but I have had it after I've had babies for months. My legs don't feel exactly numb but kind of pins and needly. I find that the only thing I can do is try to wiggle my feet and rotate them in circles but you would have tried that already.

Tried searching on the 'net ?

I have that...it's not nice- though it was worse last preg than this time- well- maybe I've just forgotten how uncomfy it gets.

I find if I have a swim or do some exercise it gets the fluid moving and it's not so bad. I used to elevate my feet on pillows last time, which I found helped some, or give my legs a massage. I have heard that acupuncture can help- as could probably other alternative therapies like chiro or an osteopath.

Sorry, not much help- but a lot of empathy...

Thanks for your replies ladies. I met up with a friend yesterday who said she suffered this numbness when she was pregnant. She had a body pillow and found that really helped. Last night I got a small thin pillow and popped it under my tum and found it really helped. I still woke up a few times but not every hour like I was before. My friend said the weight of the baby was putting pressure on her nerves so causing this numb feeling.

I can't complain - I have only started feeling uncomfortable in the last week or so and am 36 weeks so not long to go. Got a feeling this little one is going to arrive early too ........ or is that just wishful thinking!!!!

Thanks again,
