How many cloth nappies should I gather? I want to use fitted cloth (because i cna't be bothered folding) so I want to start a collection :) (also what's the cheapest yet good enough?)

Also, how would one wash a Baby Bjorn. My sis-in-law gave me hers but it needs a wash. :) Washing Machine?

Thanks :D

I would was the carrier in the machine! I do to mine all the time.

As for the nappies I would go with at least 24 nappies!

Nikki,
Throw the BB into the wash should be fine.

Got for about 20-24 nappies. Have a lot around lots of different sites and fine ones that you like, then look on ebay. Sometimes you can get great bargins on there.

Here are just some of my favs:

www.bitsforbots.com/store/

www.cherubskiss.com/

www.bubbaj.com.au/

www.fruitsaladnappies.com/store/

www.babybeehinds.com.au

Good luck and have a look on the other cloth nappy threads on here. Heaps of info about dry pailing and other great info.

My friend lent me her Baby Bjorn but it needed a wash. I just threw it in the machine and it came out fine (it did fade a little though).

I wash my BabyTrekker in the washing machine (frontloader) on a delicate cycle with a smidge of detergent. I usually do an extra rinse because of all the foam padding, I want to make sure all the detergent is rinsed out.

For nappies - how many you need depends on how often you intend on washing, what your drying facilities are and if you plan on going with sized or one size fits all nappies.

As a general rule of thumb, I'd suggest at least 12 nappies per day (for the first 3-4 months) times the number of days you wish to wash (eg. every day, every second day etc) and a few extra as a backup. If you live in a wet area where washing takes a long time to dry, you'd need more again. But if you plan on washing daily and have access to a dryer, 15 would be enough.

My personal preference for nappies is to go with sized ones because I feel they provide a better fit. I like Tots Bots non aplix sized 1's for the first few months. They are fantastic at catching all those explosive newborn poos. I generally wouldn't recommend pockets for the newborn phase but it's really personal preference. I do like pockets though because they are nice and trim and you can adjust the absorbancy to suit your needs.

As already mentioned, there are heaps of other threads on this issue so it might be worth doing a search. Hope that helps.

I think 24 nappies sounds about right... I tried making some fitted cloth nappies before DD was born and ended up getting carried away with 36. I haven't needed anywhere near that many (altho' when I haven't had a chance to get them off the line it's been handy).

I'm about to move up to the next size, but doubt I'll be making them this time around (much harder to find the time these days). Darlings Downunder have got a sale on at the moment on Baby Eco Organic Rainbow nappies - a friend of mine bought some recently and she reckons they're the nicest ones she's tried so far. I've ordered 5 to try them out...

where can u order the 'Baby Eco Organic Rainbow nappies'??

i actually just bought about 24 off ebay, & they worked out to be about $4.50 each. i'm going to bid on more though because i want to make sure i have more than enough - better than running out! ;)

for the next size, i was planning on making them (i heard there's a spotlight pattern available), but I don't know if i can be bothered since it seems you can get them just as cheap on ebay (without any effort)!!! ;) tho, there's a lady who makes them on ebay with nice coloured/ patterned fabric. that might be a nice idea - then in summer the baby can look dressy in just a nappy ;)

At http://www.darlingsdownunder.com.au but if you've managed to pick them up for $4.50 each, the sale price isn't going to seem so great ;)
