Hi,
well as the title says my family and I are relocating from England to Tasmania - exactly where is Tasmania we do not yet know other than it will be in the Hobart area (Husband's job committments).
My husband is flying out on Wednesday then returning three weeks later and then we all fly out form England on the 14th Feb, arriving in Hobart on the 16th Feb.
We only found out two days before Christmas that we were expected to definitely bemoving and only got our flight times last week - as you can imagine there is an awful lot going round my head at the moment and so much to sort out.
A little about me and my family, I am Lynda and I am married to Paul, we have 3 children here on earth, Henry(7), Charlie (5) and Toby (16mths) and a little boy Thomas who would be 3 but was sadly stillborn and another little angel, affectianately known as 'Frankie', whom we lost at 12 weeks of pregnancy as there were extreme complications in the pregnacy and we had no choice other than to end the pregnancy early.
As you can imagine it has been a stressful few years but fortunately a very good consultant (who is Australilan actually and trained in Melbourne!) discovered the cause of the problem and after treatment through another pregnancy Toby safely arrived.
I look forward to getting to know you all and picking your brains about the Australian way in to which we are going to have to try and adapt to.
Lynda x

Hey Lynda....welcome to Tassie.
Its a beautiful place and Ive been told by other Englishmen that its alot like England, minus the smog! :) Since Ive never been to England I cant comment on that personally though.
Its truely beautiful...we dont have a huge social scene down here, but HEY life is what you make it, and there is always stuff to do if you look for it!
Have you started looking for places to live yet?

Hi and welcome to the site.
I only joined the site yesterday, as i am a new mum to Mya, born 8 December. However, my husband and I moved from England in March 2004, so I know what you will be going through.
Its a wonderful country here and so right for bringing children up. We love living here and the people are so friendly and helpful. I live in Brisbane so weather is a real change from England - just hot all year round.
If you need to know any further information with regard to moving here please email me and chat some more.
Take care
Vanessa

Hi,
it is good to know that so many people have relocated and are happy. Our relocation is relatively short term initially, just 12 months although it may well go on for a lot longer, we are very lucky to be able to have a taster of a new life without having to give up everything over here first.
Where we live now is a beautiful village in teh East Midlands where we have clean air and country views so I think we will be at home in Tasmania lthough we will be close to the sea which will be lovely as we are pretty landlocked here.
We have just secured a rental property in Sandy Bay, it is only a 3 bedroom, one bathroom place but looks lovely (although the bathroom does look a bit dodgy!) We decided not to go up to our maximum budget as we are keen to have money to explaore not only Tasmania, but the mainland as well. I feel so lucky to have such an opportunity although very sad to leave my dogs behind as they have been good friends of ours through some difficult times.
I would really appreciate some advice on school in the area, we have a 7 year old who will be 8 in April and a 5 year old who only turned five on the 5th Jan. From what I can gather the younger one will be in Kindergarten but as he has already been at full time school for some time and is academically excelling I am not sure that Kindergarten will stretch him enough and he may be better off in Preparatory, are the schools quite flxible in teh way the children move through the grades?
What are the best schools in the area and what sort of price are we looking at spending for a governmet school versus a private school? So many questions!!!!
Perhaps I should start a new thread about it..lol
Again thank you for taking the time to reply to my post and welcome me, it means a lot.
Lynda xx

Hello Lynda
I highly reccomend Mt Carmel College.
It is a catholic school, I went there and it is brilliant! Only a small school but I loved it!
I think it is like $500 a term maybe add or take a $100 either side  "Plus don't forget other things, sport, field trips, uniforms, books etc etc.
There is an independant school aswell called Fahan that is more expensive and Collegiate is in the city but accessable by bus easily and that again is top of the range ;)
Do a search in www.yellowpages.com.au
Hope I was of some help!
