hi there brides to be...
I am thinking about starting my own business as a wedding planner, and was wondering if you could help answer a few questions?
How many of you have used a wedding planner?
Would you go for a wedding planner whom is well established or would you go for 1 who is just starting out if it meant you save a bit of money?
I know it sounds a little corney, but I have always wanted to this, but the thought of runnging my own business scares the living daylights out of me. I know that i wouldn't be the best of the best, but I am hoping to do small budget weddings, just giving the busy bride a bit of help. I did my own wedding with no help from anyone, I wish I had some help, as I am sure I would have had more fun. Anyway any suggestion greatly appreciated.

hey jamie,
firstly, i have been trying to plan a wedding since we got engaged in march and its so fricken time consuming so yes, i would love to hire a wedding planning if we could afford it!!
i reckon i would go to someone less established to try and save some money, just to have someone there to help out with the details you can so easily overlook.
it sounds like a really good idea and so much fun so why dont u just go for it!!!!
you only live once!

I didn't use a wedding planner, I was lucky enough to have mum to do everything for me.
I think that if I was planning a wedding in a different state I would use one and I would give someone a go that is just starting out. After all they all started from somewhere and built their business up from the ground. Price wouldn't bother me. I wouldn't pay less because they were starting out, but if you are going to offer lower prices than great.
I was thinking of doing the same thing in my area.
GOOD LUCK

Hi,
We got married in March and halfway through i wished i had chosen a wedding planner as it is an extremely stressful time.
However if i did hire a wedding planner this is what i would expect:
- I would give them all my ideas, dreams, likes and dislikes.
- They would then need to fight for my best interest eg: to get the venue i want on the date i want for a good price.
- i would not want them ringing every 3 seconds at a loss for what to do.
- I would want them to take initiative and as long as things could be canceled go ahead and tentitively book things and then confirm with me
- it would be very frustrating if they didnt seem to do anything that i couldnt do
So basically if you were to have approached me i would prefer to go with someone experienced with a good track record. But if you showed a lot of enthusiasm, had lots of info put together with differernt options for brides and honestly proved to me you could do it i would try you. To be honest i dont think the price you charged would be that critical as you will be incharge of the wedding so it is an important job and if you do a good job experienced or not you should be paid accordingly.
Sorry for my ramble, i hope that makes sence.
Basically if you have a real passion and talent and can get this across to your clients i think you are bound to be successful!!!

Hi
I got married in Nov 06 and it was a piece of cake! I had exactly what i wanted and it wasn't stressful at all. I did my research on everything and got good prices. I had 80 odd people and it was the best day - no hassells. Why would you want someone else to organise the biggest party of your life:)

Hi Popetsmum,
I guess it just depends what else you have going on. For people that might work full time or live interstate, not have much family etc i think it could be a life saver.
But for supper organised people like you, you enjoy the experience and have fun doing it:yes: .
Like everything else it is an individual thing.
ipersonally wouldnt use one as wen we do get married we arent after anything big and i find you can find just about everything on the net, however i think it depends where you live for example, on the gold coast where i live there are a lot of japanese brides (as its cheaper to fly over here and get married than over there). so they would be after someone however prob someone who speaks japanese.
or (not trying to be predjudice) but some parts of sydney where the elite live, who have the money and probably work alot would use those services
good luck with it and follow your dream
