Okay guys I have been hanging around here for a couple of years or thereabouts, there was never many guys around here but it seems to be picking up.
I am not really into wanting to chat to people but I like forums.
So as to the title of the thread, how has your life changed now you have had or having a child?
For me, well I cannot say that I really ever wanted to have children. They just never figured into my long term plans when I was younger. I was more into me than worrying about someone else if you know what I mean. However as I aged I began to re-assess my goals and having married a wonderful woman when I was 25. We decided to give ourselves 10 years of living life together before starting a family. So when we did decide that the time was right and we were financially secure we found out that my wife was a PCOS sufferer and we were not going to have any children without assistance.
Well that was a bit of a bummer for us as neither of us thought there would be a problem when it came to having a child. So anyway we finally had our first child when I turned 39 and my wife was 33. Made possible by our wonderful OB down in Adelaide, Dr Enzo Lombardi. I cannot say I was thrilled with all the tests we both had to do but the end result was the birth of our daughter in June 2002.
Again though it has not always been plain sailing and there were times when it was down right tough but we got through it and now my daughter is just a delight to be with. We have so much fun together it really is the icing on the cake.
Well my wife always wanted to have two children and I guess I too had a feeling that we should have one more. So to that end we started on the assisted path once again at the beginning of last year, things went really well in the beginning and my wife fell pregnant in the June timeframe but unfortunately she MC at 3 months which hit her hard at the time.
We let things slide for a while to let us get over the loss and then this Feb we started trying again and my wife fell pregnant again in March. So here we are, looking at a December 07 birth if everything goes well. This will be our last child as to be quite frank I am getting too long in the tooth to be thinking of having any more children.
So to answer the original question, having children has been a totally character and life changing experience for me. I was one of those people that cringed at the thought of dealing with children and would definitely go out of my way not to. However now I am the most overprotective dad out there, my wife makes me leave the doctors office when my daughter has her vacinations cause she knows I just want to beat the hell out of anyone that hurts my daughter.
Cheers
