just wondering what people think about washing nappies in a clothes load or not?? i used to do flats in nappysan so they all went in a big rinse together.
now with my yummy nappies i definately dont do any nappysan and put them with clothes if it is just a wee nappy, poo nappies i tend to leave separate. is this normal or is it fine to do them all in together with whatever, as long as i dry them in the sun?
now my sun question - since ds was born in september i havent had any troubles drying my nappies as the weather has been ok (i always line dry).
now however, with the days cold and wet - how long should my nappies be in the sun for. (i wash in cold water) is a couple of hours OK, or should it be more like a whole day?
sorry for the gabbled questions - hope it ,makes sense :D

I wash my nappies with clothes most of the time unless I haven't washed my nappies for a few days then it is basically a full load of nappies on their own. No problems wit hwashing them together either, it's not as bad as people make it to be I don't think.
As for sun drying - a couple hours might not be long enough to dry AIO's...if that is what you use? I have noticed it takes a full day usually over 6 hours for my nappies and inserts to dry.

i often put the nappies in with the cloths, even poo ones (after i have removed all traces of poo)
the sun question i am not sure of but im sure someone will be along to help you. i think that UV will still hit the nappy and after some time they would be right to chuck in the dryer
i wash my nappies separately to clothes (i put it on a short cycle if its a small load).
i always hang mine in the sun but we just bought a dryer coz i've had trouble keeping up with washing now its gettin rainy. i hope to only use it to 'finish off' things after they get some fresh air and hopefully sun!

I pre rinse my nappies then fil teh machine up with whatever load needs doing, pooey nappies and all! In regards to the sun, I was told about 2hours is enough. Now that the weather is getting cold and wet I always put my nappies on a clothes horse under a window or next to my sliding glass door. That way trhey still get the UV rays to a certain extent and I can put them out and bring them in quickly if it looks like rain.

I always wash them separate - but I'm a bit weird like that  I wash my clothes separate to the kids', I wash the tea towels separate to the towels, etc etc. So the only reason I wash my nappies (er... his nappies :D) separately is because I'm a weirdo
The sun - I put them on a clothes airer, peg them on there if necessary, and put it in the sun whenever there is sun available. At the first hint of rain they go under the verandah. Or in the front room in front of the big windows - that's fine too.
I wash in hot lately though, and tumble dry them.

I put my nappies on a clothes horse and pop them outside in the sun until the stains vanish :D
If it looks rainy I leave them undercover so they get sun but can't get rain.
Then I bring them inside to where the heater is on to dry. I'm in Melbourne too; lucky for us, it's been raining and raining! Happy gardens :D Wet nappies
I too put them on a clothes airer, so I can put them out in the sun for a bit, and then go out and put them under the house. Guess its not that much of a problem where we are, as we do get a lot of sun.

the clothes horse has had a working the past few days - in out in out... so just outside should be ok then?? the UV rays will do their thing and the actual SUN is not necessarily needed, except to help with stains?? but any idea for time?? 2 hours, half day ok?
i spose if it stays so gloomy i might have to do the occasional hot wash...
i really should not complain about the rain because dh and i are self employed in the horticulture/landscape industry. we need it soooo badly and the last few days have been FANTASTIC :smiliedance: for work, but TERRIBLE :crying: for my nappies, esp BB

I'd say 4 hours should do it, give or take!
Remember how you can get burnt even on an overcast day? UV! So even tho the clouds are covering the sun, the nappies will still get UV!!
The rain is lovely... except when you do a load of nappies, hang them out on the line and it rains for two days.
Then I do my next load of nappies and realise that I have two loads of wet nappies :gloomy: and not enough clothes horses to accomodate them. And I hate using the drier! But sometimes we sacrifice the nappies we don't love so much so the ones we do can dry on a clothes horse rather than being tumble dried :D

I chuck them all in the same load. I do 1 load every day, and I find when its overcast it takes a couple of days to dry. But by washing that often (I always have a full load!) it means that I never run out of nappies

I wash the nappies with clothes too- but regarding the amount of sun... As much as possible is best  I leave mine out from about 10am to 3-4pm (before it gets dewy) so they get as much of the drying done out there as is possible.
Then finished off on the clothes horse in front of the heater o/n. Although most of them (not the flats) need to go back out on the line againt the next day for more drying
