I tried my baby on formula yesterday for the first time, and he refused to drink it. He just spat it all out. Is this common? Should I try another brand? He will drink expressed milk if he is really hungry, but is pretty fussy with it.

Hi there

i have the same problem with my little one, but i would say, persrvere with the one brand for a little while he might just need to get used to it.
After much trying mine has finally started to take the bottle.
(many thanks to the other mums for their help) :D

Hi
I have not had problems with my two girls, but I do remember reading a thread here where some Mums recommended trying a mixture of EBM and formula. Inintially more EBM than formula and slowly reducing the EBM in the mix until its straight formula. A bit fiddly, but better than buying cans and cans of formula ;) . (try searching for the thread - its been in the last 2 weeks or so).

Cheers

Depending on the age of your bub (probably best if they are eating some solids), try a pinch or two or three of sugar (i used caster) in the bottle. A friend's GP recommended this, as br'milk is apparently much sweeter than formula (of course!!! ;) ) and so that is a primary reason they don't like the taste if they are used to your milk.
Anyways, worked for me. Didn't have to do it for long and now she will take it as is...a bit reluctantly tho!
Also, I think i read in that other thread (or somewhere) that you could try getting them used to the taste by mixing some formula into their cereal or with pureed fruit.
good luck :)
