Guess what!
I just ordered a snap machine :smiliedance:
I have no idea how to use one nor how to make nappies suitable for snapping
Do I need to do anything different?
Do I need one row of snaps or two?
If I need two rows of snaps, I guess I'll have to make the wing width bigger, so they aren't to close together iykwim.... is there an ideal distance they should be from eachother?
I'm so excited :D
Oh yay!:smiliedance:
if u look on snaps site theres a tutorial how to use it, u will get instruction tho.
I only use 1 row of snaps if my wings are only thinish and i do them about 2-3cm apart i think?
Dont needa do anything different only if ure snapping through only 1 piece of material you will needa re-inforce it. its pretty easy just watch ure arm i pulled a muscle in my shoulder from snapping:eek:

A, you can bring it around here and I'll show you how to use it. Bring some nappies or pads you have made and you practice here.
Did you get the die casts as well?

That would be 'Z' :D
That would be great if you could show me! I've made some pads, and I'm going to do up a few nappies this weekend :wizard:
I got the die casts with it, also some snaps
zada, thanks for that, do you think it matters if you have one row with thin wings or two rows with wider wings? or is it just personal preference?

I don't make nappies but I use 'em (well Jet does LOL) and for pockets I definitely prefer two rows of snaps on him, they just fit better IMO. For fitteds like Cuddlebuns and BB's one row is fine.
But the best thing about having a snap press is that you can try both and see what works best for you!

Kimba - now that I think about it I think I agree - I think one row is ok on thicker fabrics like, bamboo and hemp fitteds, but on thinner PUL etc... two is better - one row would prob work well on fleece pockets though - it's just that bit thicker
Can't wait to try it out:smiliedance:

just when ure snapping PUL be careful cos it can bunch. Make sure u push the cap thru the pul fully then snap:yes:

You dont always have to push the snap through PUL so it doesnt bunch... There is a knack to doing it otherwise, but my tip is hold things tight and steddy!!
As for 1 or 2 rows. I do all mine with 2. It sits bettter IMO, and also gives you the added option of doing tighter for the belly and fatter for the legs, or vise versa...
Be very careful to make sure the snap sits in the spot properly tho... As if you move it and dont realise and press - the snap will be ruined, and you have the fun of trying to remove it!! (i get my sissors in the cap side and cut... very difficult but for me the easist way to remove without ruining fabric - if your careful)
Make your you mark out your snap positions too. It is alot easier than trying to estimate the right spot too...

If I'm snapping a finished nappy I use both markers but I check how they will sit when closed to make sure the fabric will sit flat. I've had my share of snapping the wrong side of the nappy too :o
It's a huge asset though- you can use it for all kinds of projects.

I put my snaps 2.8cm apart, I think 2.5 or 2cm would be good.
I do two rows , the lower row to fit him when he's smaller and the upper row for when he;s bigger.
I have a peice of stiff card I pierced holes though with a pointy meat thermometer.
I then lay it ontop of the nappy and use a biro to mark the holes.
I do my snaps before I sew the two pieces together (pocket nappies), then the two horizontal snaps on the wings at the very end.
If you are putting them on a thin peice of fabric like PUL, then cut another peice out to put behind where the snaps go to give it strenght. You can use fabric glue to hold it on.
plain PUL is hard to puncture with the snaps. You can hold it the fabric in place fairly flat without having to puncture it first.
Don't slam it down too hard as it will break the snaps. If you need to remove them get some pliers , put some soft material over the snap so you dont damage the fabric with the pliers. then crunch the back of the snap with the pliers. Very handy to have.
Get snapping!! I use mine for everything, making wraps etc.... and the door stop when it's not in use.
