hi there
I visited the doc today for the first time. I have been very sick with morning sickness. He prescribed maxolon. He said try and bare it without it but if it gets too bad then take it because its safe in pregnancy. I am still a little wary though, would love to hear from anyone out there that has had maxolon during pregnancy and if all was ok and also if it helped?
Cheers, Hayley (9 weeks 5 days pregnant) :D

Hi Hayley
Sorry to hear you're having so much morning sickness - poor thing, it's awful! I had maxolon when I was about 19 weeks pregnant. I had a virus and couldn't keep anything down and the maxolon helped enormously.
Just remember that your doctor knows what he's doing - it's better to have no medication but not to the detriment of your health!

Hi
Sorry to hear that you have morning sickness. It is just the worst thing. It is like being constantly sea sick. I had to have Maxalon as well and my children are absolutely perfect. I found it didn't help me a great deal but it may be worth a try especially if you are constantly vomiting. I can understand that you are worried but they give pregnant women Maxalon in hospital so it must be pretty safe.
The thing that helped me the most was ice. Things like kool pop icy poles and slurpees from 7 11. I also found cheese twisties helped a little. Just temporary relief anyway. Gosh I hate morning sickness. I hope it passes for you soon.

Hi
I too had severe morning sickness with my first I was hospitalised three times
with the drip being run through me due to dehydration. Although some people find times during the day are good I however was vomiting all day everyday from weeks 7-17, I was off work obviously and bed ridden (lack of energy). I was prescribed 6 different perscribtions and nothing helped I tryed everything herbal and nothing worked after losing 15 kg and tearing my throat and stomach to bits I thought it was never going to end. Finally it all ended and I was able to keep food & water down. Keep this in mind when I went to my 37wk u/s they found that my placenta was heaps bigger than my bubs, so all that illness gave my girl a good start to life. I'm preggers with a second and it's nowwhere near as bad as the first so there is hope.
Good luck and I hope it ends soon

Thanks everyone for your advice. Well last night it got too much to bear so i bit the bullet and had a maxolon. It did alleviate it a fair bit so im happy about that....it only lasts 8 hours though as i found that out when i woke up this morning :(. I took another one this morning and for the first time i was able to eat breakfast and not throw up :D

That is such great news hayleylea. Morning sickness is so debilitating. I remember one day I threw up 11 times!! But the good news is it does pass and you do eventually get a healthy glow. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy.

hi everyone, im allergic to maxalon but i know it is safe to have during pregnancy. i was given stemetil during my pregnancies as i couldnt have maxalon and the doctor said that this is also quite safe, although with my 1st child i had hyperemesis, sick 24hrs a day, in hospital on the drip and nothing helped, luckily it went away at 18wks, and then for some reason came back at the end. thankfully with my other 2 i didnt suffer from morning sickness to much. someone else mentioned cold stuff, and i found that helped me to, homebrand icypoles are great for morning sickness! good luck and i hope it all passes son so you can enjoy the rest of your pregnancy! :)

I am pregnant and sick with my 3rd baby. I have vomitted so much I had to go into hospital over the weeked to be rehydrated. :( My doctor prescribed me maxalon tabs, but they made me feel very strange. I felt anxious and kept getting hot flushes until they had cleared my system. I don't have any allergies and I was wondering if anybody else had a similiar experience whils on maxalon.

maxalon makes my body go all stiff and yes i also get very anxious, but i htink that is more because of the strange sensations in my body, apparently the stiffness can be something that happens to some people when they take maxalon, dont know about the hot flushes though, maybe try stemetil(although when i was as bad as you are nothing helped :o ) you poor thing i know how you feel jlrjyeboah i hope it passes soon, try iceblocks too, i also found a cup of chamomile tea with a bit of sugar used to help a little too.

I took Maxolon on 2 separate occasions whilst pregnant.
One course was just the tablets which worked to keep me from vommiting all day apart from first thing when I had to take one.
The second was a needle then the tablets, which had a much more immediate effect. Though still felt nauseous.
It didn't affect my pregnancy and Jakob is the life of any party :D

Hi,
I had Maxolon this time as I wasn't going through what I did with bub #2! It took me till I was hospitalised this time to actually get something to help as I had a 3yr and a 10mth to look after!
I found it to be a big help and have had such a good pregnancy again!
Hi everyone
I had servere moning sickness with my 2nd child and had Maxalon by tablet and injection. Unfortunatly neither helped and I had to be hospitalised a few times. In the end I was given Zofran a much stronger drug usualy used for people undergoing chemotherapy. I too was a little concerned about what effect it could have but my little boy is a healthy 6mth old now.

hi, i am in my 14th week and have been on maxolon on and off since my 6th week of pregnancy. have had no problems with the prgnancy so far and maxolon helps me keep food down. i am also sick trhoughout the day and if i dont take my maxolon i cant even keep water down. but i take one table just before i go to bed at night and it lasts the whole day! my fetus growth is normal and it helps to know that one of you have taken maxolon and it hasnt' affected your child in any way. that's comforting.
but i do hope this nausea will end soon, it's a horrible, horrible feeling!
Hi,
I was given maxalon injections during labour to stop me throwing up. DS Jack didnt appear affected at all but it helped me.

i had to use it for the first 20 weeks with my first bub and then had to use it for the first 15 weeks with my second. It seemed to help if I took it before I got to bad but if I waited then it didn't seem to work and I would end up in hospital hooked up to the drip.
It is safe while pregnant, I say use it if you need to.

Hi
I used Maxalon for a different reason. My baby was born 10 weeks early. I could not produce enough breast milk for expressing. My lactation consultant told me to see my doctor and get maxalon. After taking maxalon for a few days my milk doubled in quantity.

I was just reading what mandymoo said and was just wondering if maybe that is why I had so much milk when I had my boys. I had enough for twins when I had Angus and twice that again when I had Caleb.

Hi all sick mums to be !!
I too just discovered that I can take Maxolon. Took first tablet last night after another horrible day of nausea/vomiting. I am 8 weeks in and finding that everyone has an opinion on Pregnancy. Now, I am finding everyone has an opinion about morning sickness and Maxolon. My Doctor and local Chemist both agree that Maxolon is fine. But then older mum's say 'oh no, don't take anything, soldier through'. Maybe I am a naive new mum to be, but I think that if you need something (of course that is permitted by Doc) then take it with common sense. That is what I am going to do. How am I meant to nourish baby if I can't eat !!!!! So what is worse, a tablet that has been recommended or starving myself and bub !!! Anyway...... those are just my thoughts. I hope there are others out there that feel the same!!

I tried Maxolon while I was pregnant, it was that or end up in hospital. Unfortunately it was worse than vomiting as I still felt incredibly sick and like I was about to vomit but because of the pills I could not vomit! Towards the end of the pregnancy when I had a vomiting flu and did end up in hospital they tried Stemetil instead and I found that worked well. Also try having a dry packet of biscuits beside your bed and some in the morning before you get up. I found some days that helped.

I had Maxolon with my first and it helped for a couple of weeks, then the tablets effectiveness wore off. I started to get insomnia at night and have really weird dreams. So i went cold turkey and just put up with being sick all day.
With my second i started with Maxolon and it did nothing at all, so i was put on Zofran by my O/B and it did nothing either, i tried those peggie pops, but they just tasted nice and nothin else.
My two daughters are perfectly healthly with no effects from either drug.

I took Maxolon quite a bit when pg - it kind of helped, but I still felt sick. My baby is perfectly fine. I found raw carrot helped too, and just eating whatever I felt like at the time (without worrying about those totally unrealistic pregnancy eating guidelines :p ).

Thank God, that others rely on Maxolon as well. My first pregnancy I spent with my head in the bucket - at home, in the car, at the supermarket, at work - everywhere. I had a Obstetrician who was reluctant to prescribe anything and I ended up getting some Maxolon from my husband's doctor - I then convinced the Ob. that I couldn't keep going without help, I ended up so sick that I lost 8kgs with the baby inside, but the baby was perfect, a good weight and a gorgeous switched on intelligent two year old now. With this pregnancy I progressed from Maxolon to Stemetil and then Stemetil suppositories.
Second pregnancy I thought would be different, but it isn't and again I am on Maxolon. I have this thing in my head where I only use it when I am really bad, but after reading your posts wonder why I let myself get to the throwing up 6 - 8 times a day and not keeping down water or anything before I use it. So today am trying a new method of using it in the morning before I get too bad.
Thanks for all your suggestions and support.
At the end it is worth it when you hold that beautiful baby in your arms.

Hey ladies,
Resurrecting this thread as my Dr has prescribed Maxolon to help out with my morning sickness and I was wondering if anyone has anything new to add? I have done some searching on the web but can't seem to find a great deal of info regarding maxolon during pregnancy.
I am hesitant to take drugs, even panadol, when I am not pregnant so this is presenting a bit of a dillema for me. I have lost a few kg's and feel pretty crappy but my brain is telling me to toughen up and just to stick out the next couple of weeks and see if things improve (currently 12 weeks) but I am so so sick of being ill.
Thanks

Hi There
I am 7 weeks pregnant and have been suffering with morning sickness pretty much 24 hours a day. The doctor prescribed Maxolon a few days ago and whilst it hasn't gotten rid of it completely I am a lot better.
Don't be frightened of using it - I have been fine and my doctor assured me they have been using it for the last 5 years in Australia with no side effects.
Cheers

Hi there, sorry to hear you are having bad ms, so am i, really bad the other day i was seriously :barf: ill, i am 7 weeks pregnant with my miricle ivf baby so because of all the drugs i had to take to help become preg i didnt want to take anything for the ms, however i had to i have just been too sick, i have been taking 2-3 maxalon a day, only to get me through the day at work, even though i only work 3 days still i have to earn some dollars before little jelly beans comes!!, i have found that it has really helped with the ms, and snacking through the days has especially helped, and drinking heaps of water other than that i have just had the horid tiredness! but i dont think that is from the maxalon i think that it just from little jb, it is safe to take whilst preg so why dont you try it and see how it works for you, remember all girls are different and react different to different things, if it works bonus!!! if not there are other things you can take that are safe, why suffer any more than what you have to.

Hi maxalon only lasts 7 hours so if you can get your GP to give you a vitamin B6 shot as it lasts for a few days minimum to a week (depends on the severity of your m/s apparently)
also if you can keep it down berocca is also good to have for it.
ETA: if your GP won't do it find one who does as it is much better then taking several tablets all day.

Hey this is a very informative thread, thanks.
I was just prescribed Maxolon this morning for severe migraines (hormone related - great) and I am only 10 weeks pregnant.
I was suffering from morning sickness (at night) and could handle that (luckily no vomiting). However the migraines were impossible to deal with as my 18 month son was running circles around me.
I trust my GP, but its nice to know others out there have used it during pregnancy as well. I did find that it makes me very dizzy and drowsy, luckily its the weekend so husband was on hand to take full care of the tear-away toddler!

I was given maxolon for both of my pregnancies and have 2 healthy babies. But I used it sparingly. Like you I didn't want to take too many medications. I used ginger tablets and found that they worked really well if I could take them first thing and every few hours thru the day. Good luck!

I am on stemetil at the moment and its not doing much for me at the moment. I had hyperemesis witn DS2 for 26 weeks. I am fairly miserable at the moment I try to keep eating but I'm so blocked up too is there something safe to take for constipation too.

I to have had bad morning sickness.
I have thrown up that may times in the past 6 weeks, I have lost count.
I had to leave work early last week cause to top it all off I had the flu.
On the way home on the train - i was sick all over the carriage infront of 5 people.
If you ever read this I am very sorry.
I went straight to the doctors where she gave me a maxalon injection and then a prescription for the tablets.
They have worked well - there not perfect but they have made my life manageable.
I would swear by them with anyone with severe sickness.

I haven't heard of stemetil but I'm on Zofran for m/s (probably would be classed as hyperemesis if it wasn't for zofran - maxalon didn't stop it and made me feel really out of it) but it causes constipation. Go and ask your chemist - "Movicol" is good because it helps but isn't a laxative, so eases it gradually.

Hi
I live in the UK and I suffered terribly with morning sickness and I went to the Dr begging him to give me something to help! I had heard that Maxolon helped but he flat out refused saying it wasn't recommended in pregnancy
I have heard conflicting advice about it so I stayed clear of it.

That's terrible that your Dr wouldn't prescribe you anything. Maxalon is what they call category A which means it is extremely safe during pregnancy. There's no reason you should have had to suffer. I found maxalon didn't totally work for me and made me drowsy so then moved to zofran which is category B (basically means no problems found if used during pregnancy but hasn't been extensively tested). (cat C is considered unsafe). Anyway, used both in both this and my last pregnancy and had a perfectly healthy boy first time with a complication free natural birth. Morning sickness is horrible and goes on and on and on - just because it's 'normal' doesn't mean it is easy to cope with.

I had Maxolon 3 times a day for the 1st Trimester. I was never actually sick but the nausea was over the top, I just kept dry retching all the time. It proved safe for me. As for whether it helped - I only got about an hour out of each tablet, so the dr told me to eat as much as I could in those three hours a day - it actually saved my pregnancy (I'd lost a lot of weight for someone already thin...it was scary!)
All the best and I hope you find it passes soon and in the meantime don't be worried about the maxolon.
