View Full Version : No essential oils?
I heard you can't use any essential oil products with PUL.. is this true? I was thinking of making up like a very light essential oil bath bomb type thing to put in the rinse cycle so my nappies smell nice.... I'm used to using fabric softener. I don't like the smell that my nappies came out with yesterday... they still smell 'dirty' :o
:detective: Just investigating the options... haven't done anything yet as I don't want to ruin my nappies.

Try a hot water rinse instead
Essential oils... some peopel use them and find it ok.. but they are still oils and leave behind a film on the nappies, a coating that builds up and makes them repel. I wouldn't bother, IMO!
Essential oils undiluted will melt through a polystyrene cup; a drop of essential oil on PUL will cause the polyurethane to bubble and lift away. What they do diluted in the wash is anyone's guess, but a few WAHMs who make nappies containing PUL and/or elastic recommend against it :)

Also, I have heard that some essential oils can be bad for bubs - esp lavender for boys... :detective: I will have to go investigate.
ETA: Well, it applies to topical use, so I don't think using it in the wash would be topical, but I'd be wary of it anyway... here is a link http://www.nih.gov/news/pr/jan2007/niehs-31.htm
