Hi all,
To cut a long story short: I have recently changed back to my original GP after 12 years. (only stopped going there as it was further to travel) He prescribed a cream called 'Elidel' it has no quartosone in it and was specially made for small children. It worked brilliantly with the first application within an hour! Emma's eczema had been totally under control ever since and when we do have a rare flare up the cream 'magically' takes it away. Hence why DP and I call it the 'magic cream'.
Don't know if it would work for everyone but it's worth a try. Ask your doctor.
Hi Christine
This has worked for us as well when nothing else did. Took a few weeks, but steady improvement all the time. It's great stuff (now when will it be added to the PBS? )
Cheers
Hi there,.. our Dr told us about this cream too,..and he is trying to get a sample for us,..cause it was $60 for a tiny tube,.....but if you guys say it works then I will get some,..

My doc says Orlando is not eligible  to get a prescription for it so we had to pay full price when we used it (we no longer need it as O's eczema is clear.
I dont know why we arent eligible as he was diagnosed with allergies and recieved a prescription for his formula but not for this particualr cream????? Hello that is weird!!!
It is $$$ pricey but hey its worth it:D
I been told that if you have the ecxema (sp?)on your face you can get it PBS. If not you pay full price $60 for a tube that expires after 12 weeks. But some private health funds will give you a rebate, depending on your level of cover (not sure how much, I haven't got to Medibank yet!).
Cheers
Hmmm,...we have top gold health cover,..and nope,.they don't cover it,.. I am just going to get some and see what it is like,...we already have a prescription in the wings! Crazy for it to be so expensive!

Hi me DH has severe Atopic Dermatitis and has been on every form of treatment it is really bad at the moment and I was wondering if it works on adults I don't care about the price as he usually ends up hospitalised as a result and I much rather him be here to help me out with kids, lol.
Do I get it from any pharmacist????
Hiya Angelbaby
You need a prescription from a doc (such a pain - I know  ). I've got to make a doc appointment to get a refill for DD1.
Cheers

I found out yesterday from wharehouse chemist that it is $35 for 15gm tube and $60 for 30 gm.. If you get authority you can get it for $5 cheaper. Makes no difference to us my hubby has to get authority for all his scripts. The price isn't that expensive my hubby pays $20 for some cortisone lotions 15gm and if it works than it will be a lot cheaper in the long run. If you want to try it don't buy the 30gm as DH has been told if it hasn't worked after first tube than it won't. We have saved a lot by following this advice. Also you can just walk in and buy it over the counter.

Ok not to alarm but I researched a bit on the product and found this I think if your using it maybe you should consult your doctor and ask him about the research into this product..
FDA warns about Elidel a common eczema treatment
FDA Public Health Advisory
Elidel (pimecrolimus) Cream and Protopic (tacrolimus) Ointment
The FDA is issuing a public health advisory to inform healthcare providers and patients about a potential cancer risk from use of Elidel (pimecrolimus) and Protopic (tacrolimus), products that are applied to the skin. This concern is based on information from animal studies, case reports in a small number of patients, and how these drugs work. It may take human studies of ten years or longer to determine if use of Elidel or Protopic is linked to cancer. In the meantime, this risk is uncertain and FDA advises that Elidel and Protopic should be used only as labeled, for patients who have failed treatment with other therapies.
The FDA recommends that healthcare providers, patients and caregivers consider the following:
Use Elidel and Protopic only as second-line agents for short-term and intermittent treatment of atopic dermatitis (eczema) in patients unresponsive to, or intolerant of other treatments.
Avoid use of Elidel and Protopic in children younger than 2 years of age. The effect of Elidel and Protopic on the developing immune system in infants and children is not known. In clinical studies, infants and children younger than 2 years old treated with Elidel had a higher rate of upper respiratory infections than did those treated with placebo cream

Hi,
I used to use Elidel on my son (now 23 months) from when it first came on the market to about 6 months ago, so that was a little over 14 months but found that it just stopped being effective. I would apply as usual but it had no effect. My paed. said at the time that she had seen this happen to a few others but didn;t have any specific reason. Luckily we rarely have an outbreak due to careful diet so rarely have to use other steriod types.
As for cost I found that by researching (especially chemist websites) that i could get a much better price. And as I used to to a big buy every couple of months with QV I used to spend enough to qualify for free postage. Or you could also see if any friends want to do an order together as I do now.
