I haven't done it but I remember reading this thread a month or so back from a bubhubber who had her baby unassisted at home, with just her partner and little girl there (who slept through it lol). It was an amazing story check it out for some inspiration ;)

i read your birth story unhindered, and it really was amazing. I just know i can have a birth like this too
Did you go to all your regular hosp appointments leading up to the birth?
What happened after wards eg with birth cert and baby bonus etc?

Hi,
For me my whole pregnancy and birth experience with dd2 was a lesson in trust. Trusting myself mind body and soul, listening to my intution. Trusting my babe and being able to communicate with her throughout the pregnancy. I choose not to pee on a stick to confirm my pregnancy because i knew i was pregnant. I did not see a medical care provider, no blood testing or ultra sounds. However this is what i thought was best for me, other ucers see a doctor or midwife. But because of my experiences with my first daughters pregnancy it was less stressful for me to see no one.
I choose to have a uc because i felt that even at home with a midwife i would of felt like i was being watched. I know for me personally this would of hindered my focus. I had complete confidence in myself and my Dh as a support person (he rubbed my back half asleep then helped to catch her in the end).
I did my research found other woman on line who were also ucing and read lots of books and watched some great uc dvd's/video. Anything by Laura Shanley is about uc and she also has a website, Dr Sarah J Buckley in her book Gentle Birth Gentle Mothering talks about her ucing experience.
We are out there, you just have to find us

Woops re birth cert and stuff.
Im in NSW. We rang Births, deaths and marriages after she was born and they drew up two stat decs to be signed by two other people other than myself and Dh, to be witnessed by JP's. A letter stating certain info about myself, place of birth and the baby written by a doctor or naturopath. Once all that was in her birth was registered no probs. Then ring centrelink ask for a newborn claim form to be sent out and just ignore all the dr/midwife stuff on the back (thats what we were told) we provide relevant info like birth certs and stuff. Then that should be it, you have to claim for the baby bonus in the first 26weeks after the baby's birthing day.
It has taken us longer because we stuffed around with it and are now waiting to buy her birth cert to do the centrelink stuff.

oh my other question is re vaxing which we are going to do. Can the vitamin k be given by a GP the next day? It doesnt matter if its not done at birth right? Also i guess all vaxes come from a GP, so i assume this can be done too?
Vitamin K is not a vax, it is a shot of a vitamin specific to blood clotting.
I would assume you could arrange to have a GP administer it, just ring and ask. Perhaps research it a little more anyway, so you are 100% sure of what you are asking the GP to do.

oh thanks for that :o i guess vaxing is something i havent researched enough. DH and i had agreed to delay it for a little while anyway.
So is vitamin k neccessary then? Or is there no point if it isnt given at birth straight away. Any info would be great, thanks :D

Personally, I feel that vitamin K is unnecessary and possibly harmful in the case of normal straightforward birth. If any of my babies had've had very traumatic births resulting in extensive bruising, I may have opted for it.

thanks for that guv'nor :D
I opted not to have vit K at birth, only if it was a traumatic, bruising birth, as Guv said. So neither of my boys had it.
It is something worth reading up on, it is quite interesting:thumbsup:

Here's another lovely one:
(By Felicity) "I homebirthed (freebirth) 3 weeks ago and it was magnificent. This thread has prompted me to post my birth story, so here it is if anyone is interested" :D : http://www.bubhub.com.au/community/f...=1#post1506077 (http://www.bubhub.com.au/community/forums/showthread.php?p=1506077&posted=1#post1506077)

Well I had an unplanned home birth (didn't make it to hospital) so I don't know if its the same thing or not, but anyway, I delivered my baby myself, it was good and scary, good because I was in my own evnironment and familiar surroundings and scary coz anything could have gone wrong.
This is very interesting. I have read the birth story written by unhindered and find it very inspiring, thankyou. I have read other homebirth stories as well. The most recent scared me as the midwife tried to hurry the birth along which seemed strange since that would be what most homebirthers don't like about hospitals and intervention.
I felt stared at in the births of my boys which I didn't appreciate. I would like to have a free birth. I had an easy going birth first time around as I was left alone for the most part and didn't have any internals or monitoring. :)
I am hoping to have an unassisted pregnancy and birth. I want to birth my own child not have it 'delivered'. I feel I can learn and understand my own body as well as trust in my own body.

I can't wait to read you UC birthstory Empowered. There is lots of great info around on vaccination, it's a decision you should never take lightly so find out as much as you can about it before you make the decision.
As for Vit K. Very few babies are actually Vit K deficient if born vaginally. The reason for that is the most bio-available Vit K is found in good gut bacteria. When babies are born, generally they are facing your anus (unless posterior) for a very good reason. The come from a completely sterile environment and need to be colonised with bacteria. During a normal birth baby will inhale/ingest minute amounts of bacteria from your anus to colonise their own gut. If you are taking acidophilis and have a healthy gut, bub is getting his own personal dose of VIT K and your breastmilk will provide the antibodies to any bad bacteria ingested.

Re Vit K, as the others have said you don't need to give it. Personally I have chosen to but orally not by injection. This is a course of 3 little oral vials. I got a prescription from my gp. My m/w gave dd3 the first two and I gave her the third but if you were going unassisted then no reason not to give them all yourself, if you choose to give it at all.

Agree with this right down to the last word. I chose not to have it, we had a normal birth, no dramas so I couldn't see the point in it at all. If I had ended up with a traumatic birth or emergency c-section then I might have considered it.

um, eww, but interesting. Wow, I never knew that. That is the "new thing" I learned today. I WAS taking acidophilus as it turns out. I don't even know why I was (well, NOW I know why) I just thought it was a good idea and couldn't hurt. Cool!
