View Full Version : Tap Water
Ok.....so when do you stop with the boiled water.
Now with the weather finally getting warmer here in Perth and Ava drinking a bit more water each day I was thinking, when can I stop giving boiled water and just pour it straight from the tap!
I'm not sure when the "right" time to do this, but I started giving ordinary tap water at 6 mths when I stopped sterilizing everything - I figured once they are crawling they are getting germs anyway, so why stress about sterilizing and boiling water.

i was told by the health nurse, 12 months. But then they always err on the side of caution. I will sterilise everything until then too.

Yeah, I heard cooled boiled water until 12 months too.....
I stopped boiling the water at 6 months when I stopped sterilising everything. I couldn't see the point when DDs started sticking all sorts of other interesting things in their mouths...

I heard the one year mark, but you've all made very valid points re germs!
I switched over to filtered water @ 12mths - tap water put through a Brita water filter and still use it now (I actually prefer the taste of the filtered water over tap water myself).
I stopped at about 9 months - the day I found ds chewing on a fly.
I had a friend who found HALF a roach in her baby's mouth. She really didn't want to know about that other half
LOL, thats gross:o :o
Actually, I found half a caterpillar:eek: Poor caterpillar:(

Hi ID

Has anyone told you about drop bears? I might have to start a new thread

i started giving Max spring water in a bottle at 6mths as he loves it. drinks about 100mls or so a day now out of a sipper cup.:) I also stopped sterlising everything at 6mths as well.
To be honest DD is now 10 months and im still using boiled water and sterilising as much as possible. Am i OTT with this? I just dont like using perth tap water and i'll only start using it when i can find what i did with my Brita jug? (Did anyone see a box fall off the ute?)

I sterilised till 12 months, and waited til then to give water out of the tap too. Sometimes our water is a little too clean and tastes like chlorine so at least i know if it's boiled I've tried to get the chemicals out
With #2 we'll wait and see I'll probably stop sterilizing at 6 months

my ds is 11 months old and i stopped giving him boiled water about a month ago. I had every intention of boiling till 12 months but given that he drinks the bath water at an alarming rate i really couldn't see the point!
Just a note on the water filters though - my mum has one and mentioned to me something about not giving that water to bubs due to the stuff that actually filters the water. not really sure on details but will try to find oout and get back to you all.
