Hi

My son is 6 weeks old and is fully breastfed.

His poos are usually yellow (though sometimes greenish aswell) but yesterday they started going a bit browner and they seem more runnier (sorry if TMI). I know breastfed poos are meant to be runny but just want to know if this is normal for their poos to change?

Could it be something that I am eating that is making his poo change? And if it is, how long does it take from me eating something to it affecting him, eg. if I eat something for lunch, will it affect him by dinner or does it take longer?

Also he has alot of wind. What is the best way to get rid of it? And is there any foods that I should be avoiding?

Thanks in advance

MJ's poo's resembled either curry or mustard (sorry if TMI). They were always runny enough to escape nappy's everytime.

I think it takes 8hours for your food to get into the bm, thats what i was told anyway.

Hope that helps a bit :)

Ah baby poo! Great topic! :D

Congratulations on bfing your bub. Lovely work that will last a lifetime for you and your baby!

Poos do change colour for sometimes totally mysterious reasons <insert Twilight Zone theme>

If you feel bubs is especially windy there are a few things to think about.

1. Make sure attachment to the breast is perfect so no extra air is being swallowed along with booby joice.
2. Avoid foods which seem to affect bub. Keep a note of what you're eating and see if you notice any bad reactions to anything. There is a list of foods that can cause more wind and I'll dig it up for you :)
3. Carrying your baby in a sling (a soft carrier so it's safe for their developing spine) will also help them with wind.

bf baby poos change all the time!!!! Sometimes yellow, sometomes green, sometimes mustardy, and all the colours in between and always runny. But if you are worried don't hesitate to call you ECHN or doctor, or the ABA. You can never be too cautious.

I found orange juice would give my baby wind (or anything citrus).

Giving baby some tummy time, also helps get the wind up.

The only thing my mother said for me to watch out for was the Green nappy... she swears that usually means bub is a bit sick - but Im guessing the greener it is, the more likely the mummy has to cut something out of the diet  So I wouldn't freak too much...

I was so scared about what I could/couldn't eat that may end up in breast milk. I started eating cashews again when she was about 2 months, she ended up with a rash... so I cut cashews out... she still had a rash. Kept my diet down to basics... still a rash... Turned out the rash was caused by her bath soap :o Oh well.

I've found out recently DD loves bouncies on the knee, for one shes smiling and laughing away, and the other she gets rid of wind, so that's cool...
Just those run-away nappy contents I have no idea how to fix :p

...Ive been useless again, sorry :D
