View Full Version : Bored Mummy
Hi, My name is Caitin and i'm a 24 year old mum to two girls, Elora is 2 and a half and Natalia is 5 months. I live in Wattle Grove In Sydney, just near Holsworthy Army Barracks.
At the moment my partner is away on course for 6 weeks in Darwin, It has been just over a week and I have hated every min of it. I am going up to Darwin for a holiday for the last week of his course but I have one month before i go.
I know it sounds silly because it is only a 6 week course but I am not used to being alone so i am finding it hard. I also don't really have much in the way of friends here in Sydney.
Any idea's of how to keep the toddler happy and me entertained?
Anyone live around this area?
Hi Caitlin, welcome to the armed forces thread.
I am Sharon and my hubby is in the RAAF and we are based in Townsville.
I also find being on my own hard too, more so the nights. I have a 15 mth old daughter and we keep ourselves entertained by visiting playgrounds and going to the beach for walks. There isn't alot to do up here in Townsville so I normally try and get her involved in crafty things, but it always ends up a huge mess, lol. On the lonely nights I jump on an ADF forum similar to this that I am involved in and chat to the families there. I find it really helps to pass the time. I have only just today been introduced to the world of scrapbooking but I'm hoping that it will help fill some of my time as my hubby is due to be away for most of the last 4 months of the year. Look forward to getting to know you soon.
Hi Caitin
Unfortunately I don't live in Wattle Grove any more but I did until we moved to Townsville early this year. There are HEAPS of lovely ladies with young kids in the area, the trick is finding a way to meet them!
You could try seeing what activities are on at the community centre at Wattle Grove shops (which I hear have been rebuilt now, including our favorite pizza shop! Devestated when it burnt down!)
Or if you live near the lake, I used to enjoy going for walk around it and there is a playground there. And I think they do kiddies swimming at the local pool if that's something you might like to do.
I'm in the same boat here in Townsville with not having many friends but trying to fix that by hosting a morning tea next week for some other bubhubbers. I've also contacted the local Early Childhood Health Centre for info on parenting classes and playgroups so I can possibly meet some people that way too.
Hope we both make some new friends and find some fun activities to enjoy with the little ones.
Olismum - I'm new to scrapbooking too. Have a whole lot of materials just need to sit down & get started. Also, you are more than welcome to come to my morning tea next Thurs morning. PM me if interested.
Welcome to the wonderful defence partners thread.
6 weeks can seem like 6 months when your partner is away. Mine is away for 2 weeks at the moment and I was whinging on about day two. Now that is being silly.
I don't live nearby but I do live in Ryde in Sydney. Call DCO, they will have a list of things that go on in the area. They will send you out info on whats around.
Hope the time goes quickly till you go to Darwin. Take care ok.
 Thanks for all your fast replys, it's nice when someone wants to help.
Cat13, I do live near the lake and go walking there most days to feed the ducks but the playground is very unsafe for little kids unless Im climbing it with my toddler, but then i have the bub left alone. And yeah the shops have been rebuilt and look great and have been a life saver while my partner has been away.
I am looking for things I can do with the bub and toddler, i hope i find lots of things!
anyone with any sugestions, keep them coming, im open to anything and have a car.
Hi Caitlin
My husband is in the navy and we live in Coogee, in the eastern suburbs. I'm expecting my first bub in 12 days  and after my c/sect recovery I will definitely be up and about. Maybe we could meet up for coffee sometime? Find somewhere mid-way?
I've been in Sydney now for just over 2 years and I'm still getting used to it. This is our first posting, and will probably be our last (I think hubby wants to get out when his contract is up). Anyway - hope to see you around the boards more
Hi Cat, thanks for the morning tea invite. Unfortunately Thursdays are my day to check in with my GP as I am currently being treated for PND. I hope you have a great morning though and raise lots of money.
Had another idea. Not very exciting but have you joined up at a library? Often have story times to attend or toys & videos to borrow as well. Can't say I know where the nearest one to Wattle Grove is but plan on visiting one up here next week and getting myself a library card. Haven't had one of those since school!
hey how are you!!
ive met you at the bankstown play centre right?
i was the pregnant one with the naughty curly haired DS. lol
how have you been?
i'm a bored mummy too. but there isnt much i can do with DS at the moment him being only 16 months and me being 35 weeks pregnant. so we only go to our playgroup and on occasion the park or playcentre. i'd like to get out more but the further i get along in my pregnancy the more tired i get. but i do like to get out whenever i can....maybe we should meet upa gain soon.
do you know prestons? not far from you...there is a playcentre there called tictoks. i havent been there but heard its good. thats if you want to take Elora to a playcentre.
i dont know about parks around that area because i am not from there. but i am sure there must be some nearby.
just wanna send some :hugs: for your partner being away. mine isnt as gone for the long periods yours is. but he goes away for about a week and only comes home for 1-3 days before he is gone again for another week. so i know how hard you are finding it without him. however mine isnt in the army..he is a tradesman.....he works away alot with his dad. so sorry if i am not supposed to be posting here.....lol
hope to catch up again soon....:D
Thanks again for everyones replys!
Thanks for the invite pink lady, a coffee one day would be great, coogee is not that far really. I hope your c-section goes well, and u have a fast recovery. Do you know if it is a boy or girl yet? I love babies!
Cat13, I have been to the library story times before, my daughter loves them, except the one i was going to u had to book in a couple of days before and they were so crowded that I cant get the pram in there with the little one, I have just found a number for another library a bit further away so im going to try that out. Thanks
Hi sw33tn3ss, Yeah we have met in bankstown before, I stoped going to that play centre because Elora got ill after each visit, the first time really bad gastro that then got us all and then she had a really bad fever and was sick again after the other visit, I don't think they clean it very well either, not that im a clean freak but I don't like elora getting sick just cause she wants to play.
How is your son going, he was very cute, Elora is much naughtier than your little boy!! she is very testing at times!
I hope you have everything ready for bub now, not long!
Also can anyone tell me how to get the little things down the bottom that say all our ages and names and thingys?
thats no good to hear. lucky we havent had any problems going there. but DS doesnt tend to get sick that often anyways thank god. DS didnt seem naughty that day but he has his days when he gets pretty bad. yes very testing at times. i can understand.
nope, nothing ready for bub....lol..just 4 and a half weeks to go and nothing ready.....lol
the ages and things in the bottom is your signature. up the top of the page somewhere it should say usr control panel and when you get into it should somewhere say edit signature. hope that helps :D
my husband is currently on course down in melbourne for the next two weeks- has been for 6 wks already- its been terrible but luckily I'm visiting my folks down in vic as well so I have seen him on some w-ends but still its a bit hard with a then 6 wks old- DH has missed out a lot of my DS growing up and I miss him sooooo much- I agree the nights are hell.
I get bored as well- just recently found e-bay (getting a bit expensive though) and scrapbooking as well. I get home in July and live in Cranebrook- the other side of Penrith- but I also have some friends around your area so go out your way a bit- if you want to do something- don't know what, let me know.
You can even have a chat about Darwin- I was up there this time last year for work and I loved it- even got married up there in August.
:hugs: Hang in there.
I lived in Wattle Grove all my teen years as an Army child and then lived there as an Army wife until we moved to Perth. We're now in Albury Wodonga but will be back in WG May 2008. I would love to keep in contact with you so maybe we can meet when I move back. I have a son, 9mths old and another one due in January. WG is a great place to live and raise the kiddos!
Funny you guys should mention Piccola, I used to work there way back when hehe
