The Womens weekly children's cake book is my bible! I've made 3 of their cakes, and I lend the book to other people quite often! I really stand by it, it's easy and the cakes look GREAT!
As for other cook books, my sister gave me a subscription to Super food ideas magazine and I love it SOOOO much! I get a new one every month and I've never used so many recipes in a normal cook book as I have from this. It sounds very similar to the family circle one recommended above! It's like pent house, because I get it for the articles aswell :D

Sounds like a great book, Kel.
We love any Jamie Oliver book here - very user friendly and guaranteed yummy!
DH loves his books, and wants to cook all the recipes - gets me off the hook ;) .
We love Super Foods here too - gives us regular inspiration without having to make a special visit to a bookstore.
There is a cookbook that is in nearly every kitchen in New Zealand that i find absolutely indispensable!
The Edmonds Cookbook is full of practical, mainly easy recipes and helpful advise. It too goes throught the different cuts of meat etc, cooking methods, what sauce/gravy is traditionally served with what meat etc. The cake and biscuit recipes are wasy and tasty and I don't think that I have had any failures yet.
Other Kiwi's on here will attest to it being helpful and practical. I often don't use the recipes, but use them for ideas instead!
Other than that, my most used cookbook is that one that my Mum wrote her favourite recipes in and I'm sorry, it is not available to the general public;)

OK........so a bit of a sweet tooth here.
The Womens Weekly Best Desserts cook book has fab recipes. I have tried at least half a dozen so far and not one has failed and they have all been yummy.
I best keep trying them though :p
I don't think you can go wrong with any of the Womens Weekly ones though!
I am an absolute Donna Hay junkie. I have every single magazine she has published as well as all her cook books.
Each year she puts out a Kids issue which is aimed more at toddlers + but she has some really amazing ideas for kids parties. The styling is beautiful. I promise all you ladies, once you read a mag or book you will be complete converts! (and no, I do not work for her!!)
