Hey Kristy - I just read you Q to the reflux expert & wanted to let you know Ebony sounds just like Nick! He has the biggest, hardest pot belly after a feed. this sounds terrible, but he reminds me of our dogs pups when she had them. His belly goes out so far at the sides 'cause it is so round, and rock hard. I read somewhere today that the roundness is due to poor muscle tone in bubs belly & it will go away eventually, but is often there through toddler stage.
He is also very pukey - sometimes i am sure he pukes up everything. We have to change his clothes at every feed, sometimes twice, and then we have to change his sheets 5 times a day as he manages to puke all over them too. He even projectiled onto the toy on the toy bar of his rocker! I think the curdled bit at the end is from the last feed not digested yet. Sometimes when i get Nick up for a feed, it is 3hrs since he last finished, and he pukes a nasty curdled bit up.
I'll watch for the response from the expert, 'cause i am interested in the explaination as opposed to my guesses:D . But we have a follow-up appt with the paediatrician on Thursday so i'll see what he thinks of it too.
Hey can I join in too. I'm was supposed to be a May Mum. We've got our own club Supposed to be Born in May.
We are doing well, Samuel hasn't really been waking for his feed at night though so I asked the MCHN yesterday and she said we'll try leaving him and see what happens with his weight I can always start waking him again. Talking of weight he was weighed yesterday and is now 6lb 8oz (2940g) :D the little porker that's almost 1lb in a week. He's coming on leaps and bounds but i don't feel like I've got him as he is soo quiet. I'm sure it won't last though  .

Hey Kristy - we had Nicks follow up appt with the paediatrician today so I asked him a few q's about the puking all the time. He said it is often common for premmies to be quite pukey as they are trying so hard to catch up with their growth, but their little tummies can't hand;e it to well. I told him that it was curdled a bit when he does it hrs after a feed, and he still said it's not too much of a concern, and that it should improve by 3months. He also said the hard fat round tummy is fine too, so long as the weight gain is good and they are not to disturbed by the puking.
He was very impressed with Nicks weight gain since we left hospy - he was 3.75kg today bare weight - so YAY another few hundred grams last week. He is also 53cm long & 37cm head - so for a bubs that was due last week he has done very well. He said Nick is doing so well he doesn't need to see us again unless we have any concerns - YAY.
TMI here...but i asked him about Nicks poo's 'cause they seem like paste rather than runny like my daughters were. I was worried it was a sign of constipation (but i knew in my head that b/f babies don't really get constipated) but he said it just means that he is digesting all the lactose sugar in the milk - which is a good thing. So nothing to worry about there!:smiliedance:

YAY Kristy & Ebony!! I LOVE my MCN (or i should say Charli & Nicks nappies!) Be warned though, they are addictive.
I have been trying all Nicks new ones on him the last few days, as he seems big enough to fit in them. The GK's fir now, but i have been using a baby beehind prefold as the insert, as it is smaller than the GK ones. His happy heiny, berry plush and a few others all fit now too. He is a bit bulky with some of them, but they still look great!

Welcome over Sara :smiliedance:
I am feeling pretty emotional actually.. but I think that has alot to do with other factors not the "baby blues" or pnd or anything like that.
Hey does anyone find that when they get the "let down" of milk, that it can actually hurt
Sheer Bliss

Do you have a favourite Tan?
I love his rainforest berry plush & the itti bitti, but they only jsut fit him. I have a starbunz puppy that i love, but again he is still too small for it. Size 0 kissaluvs are a great fit, but I have to boost them - he is a heavy wetter. But his monkey doodlez micro was my fave - until today - the newborn size is too small. :gloomy:
Welcome over Sara!! I know what you mean about time flying - Nick is 5weeks old already! I feel tired!! But i feel heaps better than the last 9months, so i am not noticing it so much. To be honest i was just so damn sick when i was pregnant that everything else is seeming easy in comparison.
Kristy - sometimes if he sleeps a bit longer (i am trying not to wake him as much now) i let-down before he wakes up, and that stings a little, but a few times when he is feeding yup - it really hurts. TMI here, but it's worse when he is feeding off the left one, the right one really hurts. It's weird 'cause the right one won't leak that much, so i think it hurts more 'cause it trys to let-down but won't cause he isn't on it. whereas when he is feeding off the right, the left just leaks everywhere, so it has an outlet and doesn't hurt as bad. Hope that makes sense. lol.

Yep that made sense!! My right breast is the worst and I think it is the bigger milk maker lol, I can't seem to express of the left and it isn't as full....

Question - Has anyone gotten into a routine with their little one yet???
Jet seems to be starting to develop a routine. He wakes up about 7am, we then have a feed which lasts up to 45 minutes with burping and then depending on how long he sleeps for we continue feeding every couple of hours until about 10pm when he will start to sleep for about 3-4 hours at a time until 7am.

Nick seems to be having one big sleep of a night-time (except for the other really unsettled night!) Usually from around 9-10ish until 2-3ish - which is great! I hope it continues. Then he will wake again between 6-8am and have about an hour of awake time before he goes back. From there on it's anyones guess! Feeds are between 2.5-4.5hrly and sometimes he'll stay awake for half an hour after, other times he'll crash straight out. I am happy to have the unknown part of the day if it means i can get 6 or so hrs sleep at night.

Sort of. Ebony is awake at 7am has a feed and burp and a look around in her bouncer while I shower and then I clean, the vaccume puts her to sleep for bout 2 hrs! Then we feed again and burp and bath time, then feed and 11am she is down again for a 2-3 hr sleep, about 2ish she wakes and has a look around and we sing and talk for an hour or so then she feeds again and sleeps, this is after school time now so I organise Olivia, home work etc and start dinner.
While dinner cooks she will wake for a feed and goes back to sleep and wakes again after dinner. Stays awake for about 2 hours and has a big wake time with daddy.
9-10pm she feeds again and is burped and settled by 11pm, sleeps for 4 hrs maybe 3 and has a top up feed and wakes again by 7am.

Wow Kristy, sound like you have a decent sort of routine happening! I suppose with 3 you'd need to. I find it difficult on thursdays getting charli ready & off to daycare & keeping Nick happy & fed. It would be crazy if i had to get her there by a particular time. we aim for anywhere bwyween 8-9:30. lol.

hey ladies!
we have a pretty good routine here...
aalliyah will wake at 2am, 6am,10am,2pm,6pm,10pm lol... pretty much every four hours... so if one feed takes longer then the rotation may change an hour... but every four hours she feeds... which i am fine with... so far we havent had any dramas at home.
she has a stuffy nose and a bit of a cough though.. so thats horrible.
off to bed now... xoxo take care

Wow, are you bottlefeeding or breastfeeding? I would love Isaac to feed every 4 hours (these 2 hourly feeds are killing me...)
My other two were bottle fed and that was their routine exactly.
Isaac has a cold too, very sniffly at night and even sneezed out a big green booga this morning...eeewwww:eek:

I'd say it must be the weather too! nick has been all snuffly the last 2 nights. I've had the vapuriser on in the room to help him sleep.
A tip the clinic nurse gave me when Charli was a bub - seems a bit mean but it works...If their nose is so stuffed up they are having trouble feeding, squirt a little saline up their nose before a feed. It will loosen what is up there & because they don't like it they will cry & huff & puff, and essentially blow their nose by accident while crying. It is awful to watch, but it works.
 Hi everyone!
Tis great to be able to join you over here!
Asha is nine days old today and I am still recovering a bit I think. I had some tears which are still a bit ouchy (getting better every day) but then I got mastitis (OUCH!). Am on antibiotics though, and it seems to be clearing up pretty well. It felt like I had a bag of peas under my skin :barf: . Not nice!
Aside from that, Asha seems to be going pretty well - she is a little more awake during the day, and at night seems to feed at 10pm, 1am, 4am, and then 7am. Quite civilised really! I'm not going so far as to say it's a "routine" though, just in case I jinx myself!
I hope all the other mummas and bubbas are doing well!

hey camille... im breastfeeding.
i was concerned that i havent been feeding her enough or for long enough but in less than a week she has put on 200grams which im told is good and she's always content so i assume im doing things right:confused: .....mum said she'd be screaming if she wasnt getting enough.
i feel fantastic!!! i've lost 19 kilos and i only put on 18 for pregnancy... so im going to stick at a healthy lifestyle and see how much more falls off.
dp and i cant stop touching each other:o its crazy i thought that breastfeeding was supposed to ZAPP your sex drive lol....
my csection scar is healing perfectly... it looks fantastic... a perfect little line... all closed up.. no weeping or bleeding or anything.
i REALLY want to start driving again... just small trips, like to the shops to get some milk etc... i cant stand being reliant on others.
i lodged the baby bonus thingy today... so hopefully ill have money soon lol. i desperately need some clothes and undies.. i have nothing that fits anymore.... AND IM FREEZING!! lol.
how long did it take for the baby bonus to come through for you other ladies??
ok well ill stop rambling now and put my lil baby back in her basinette.
take care:D

Hi Babygirl  , congrats on having your precious little bubba.
I posted my baby bonus form last friday, they received it on monday as lady rang me to discuss FTB estimate etc and money went into my bank yesterday. Woo hoo !!!!!
You're doing sooooo well with your weight loss. I put on 6 kg while pg, I've now lost that but have another 10kg to go. When I lose the next 5 , I'm getting my hair coloured at the salon !!!!!:yelclap:
Babygirl - you are doing so well, lucky you!! 200gms in a week is great, the midwife I saw earlier in the week said around 100 - 150g per week is normal. Isaac put on 600g in 1.5 weeks, what a piggie! :D
My scar has healed up really well too, quite suprised that after 3 weeks I feel pretty much back to normal, no soreness or anything - my DH wont let me drive yet (just in case...) but I am dying to!
I know what you mean about the sex, its like some sort of aphrodesiac, my DH says he finds me so sexy when Im breastfeeding and seeing me as a mother, he cant keep his hands off me... Im not complaining!;)
I put in for the baby bonus on a Wednesday and got it the following Wednesday - was impressed at how quick it was, considering I was told it could take up to 3 weeks!
Babycakes- Ive got another 13kg to go after losing 15kg, still cant believe I put on 28kg.... , lucky you even lighter than when you started!
Marlie - great to see you and little Asha are doing well, she is such a cutie!

I never knew bubba's could sleep this long as my boys only ever slept for maybe an hour at the most b4 needing another feed !!

YAY - Congrats on your 6month Aniversary Kristy!!
The lactation consultant at the hospy also said it was fine to have a drink on occassion. she recomends straight after a feed, so it has more time to leave your body - but she said if you are right to drive, you are right to b/f!! I had a glass of champas on mothers day, it was my grandfathers 80th party as well!
I am having half the night off tonight!! Nick will probably have a feed at around 9ish, then i have some defrosted milk in the fridge & dh will do the next feed. I can sleep until 5-6ish when he'll probably want the next one. :smiliedance:
Funny thing happened today....I forgot to put breastpads on when we went shopping today, I was standing in the checkout line with my arms folded, and i though i felt something crawling on my wrist, i looked down and seen drops of milk on my wrist  . A closed look and i could see a stream about 2mm long coming out of my shirt & squirting. I quickly folded my arms higher so they were on my boob, but OMG how embarrasing - spraying a little through my shirt! I am glad i was wearing black, so you coudn't see the mark.

a funny breastpad story... well i thought it was funny anyways lol...
we went to have a roast dinner at DP's last night... rocked up with everything for bub... set her up near the fire to keep warm... well i ended up sitting next to the fire as well... the warmth and looking at bubs started let down and i freaked cause i had forgotten to put some one.. ran discreetly to my nappy bag and found ONE solitary breast pad.... i had to choose which boobie to cover lol... they were both pretty much streaming so i chose one and then just held bubs against me for the remainder of 'family' time lol... dp found it hilarious. and me n bub were drenched in yummy boobie milk.
babygirl  You poor thing! I haven't had any of those experiences yet, I'm sure it's just a matter of time.
DH bought me some fabric breast pads you can wash, they are great, heaps better than the disposable ones
Sounds like everyone is going well, that's excellent.
I haven't had much time to get onto the hub, DH had holidays for 2 weeks which was great but it was soooo hard to get into a routine of sorts with Anna, now he's back at work I'll have more time to do "me" stuff, like jump on the net. When he was home I had to amuse him as well as bubs, I was actually looking forward to him going back to work! :o
Mmm champas, we were given a bottle of Moet for our engagement (18 months ago!) and it's still there. We planned on opening it when bubs was born... Maybe when we get a night to ourselves we'll pop the cork...

I know what you all mean with havinh DP's home!!Mine was off for 4 weeks and i was ready to kill him.Everything took so much longer with him around. I was grateful for someone to help change Nicks nappy at the night feeds, but daytime was soo painful. I am also glad he is back at work.
Is anyone else still super emotional?? Nick is 6weeks old now, so i though most of the hormones would be gone, but i find myself getting cranky with DH so easily - poor bugger can't do anythign right. Then other times i am so happy with everything i cry. It's very weird!
I just had one of those amazing moments this afternoon. I was inside and Nick had just finished a feed and was asleep on my chest (where he still is - i just don't wanna put him down just yet) and i was sitting in my comfy chair watching DD outside with DH & the dogs. She was jumping on the trampoline giggling and looking so happy, DH was watching her (beer in hand - lol) with a proud look on his face (she got the trampoline for christmas, but only recently mastered bouncing.) and the dogs were wagging theirtails joining in on the happy vibe. It was beautiful - my happy little family - it was so nice it bought tears to my eyes. A beautiful gooey heart melting moment. *sigh*

I just hate the fact that after I get up in the morning, after no more than 2 hours sleep at a time all night (for the last 3.5 weeks)and getting the older kids breaky and getting them ready for school, I have to wake DH up at 8am, after he has slept for 8 hours straight so he can drive the kids to school, and he complains that HE is so tired.....
Any tips on expressing so my DH can at least do one feed for me at night so I can get some sleep? Ive never done it before, when do I do it (after or before I feed), how much do I express, how do I store it???? so confusing, lack of sleep, aaaaahhhhh......

hi guys... i keep meaning to head on over to this thread when i get on BH, and i've FINALLY made it!
DP is heading back to work next sunday... i'm sort of dreading it as i'm a bit scared taking over the night shift on my own, especially as lily is so hard to settle at times. i sometimes feel like i must be doing something wrong because she's so fussy... then i remind myself that she feeds well and is otherwise healthy (she certainly has a healthy set of lungs).
is anyone else missing their pregnant belly? i missed it today.... felt so weird.

I know what you mean - DH was soooo tired yesterday after feeding Nick for me at 1am, I still got up at 4:30 and feed him. Not to mentiont hat i normally do a midnightish & a 4amish feed EVERY night.
I have an avent breast pump - as i am useless at hand expressing. I was just expressing after each feed for 10mins to start with - i would only get 5-10ml, but now can sometimes get 40-60mL. I just wait for it all to be cold, then add the days worth together & freeze. We leftt out 120mL for him to have the other night, he drank all but 10mL of it. Then when I got up to feed him at 4, he only took one side, so i expressed the other & got 140mL. So that's in the freezer for my next night off!

You will do fine on your own - it's amazing how much easier it is when you can go with the flow yourself, and not have to think about anything other than you & bubs. Don't worry about her being fussy either - Charli was a VERY fussy bubs - i was sure i didn't have enough milk, but i did. When she was weaned onto the bottle, she was just as fussy. Some bubs are just fussy, no matter what you do. Nick on the other hand is the exact opposite. After having such a clingy, fussy baby last time, I am waiting for him to be the same - but so far so good!
I sorta miss my preggo belly - i find myself rubbing my tum sometimes - then i realise he is not in there. But I am VERY glad to be eating again and not loosing it!

i'm sure that once lily and i get our own 'groove' going, we'll be good. i'm trying to do as much on my own as possible this week so as it's not such a huge shock next week when DP isn't here. he's been so wonderful helping out - and just dotes on his little girl!!
we had a fabulous night again last night!! lily slept for about 4 1/2 hours (WTF!?)... in fact i woke before she did and had to check her!! the only downside was she had a poo blow-out because she slept so long!! poor little baby! so it was a complete costume change before i could feed her... and then she had trouble settling back (took about 1/2 hour).
two nights of okay sleep though... i keep pinching myself to remind me it's actually happened!

 Miss Ani that's a classic - poo blow out, I can't stop laughing.
Camille - I've got the avent isis breast pump (manual one) and it is sooo easy to use. I usually express an hour after a feed and can get about 80mls. Anna has about 110ml per feed at night (she has 3 feeds) and I express probably 6 times a day so there's heaps left over. I also feed her the expressed stuff at night, it's heaps quicker, then express before I go back to bed. All up (feeding and expressing at night) takes about half an hour. The breast pump was the best thing we bought.

Oh Anita she's gorgeous!
Hi everyone!!! Just found this thread today.
Everyone is going sooooo well... Congratulations Ladies!!! We're doing great here. Sleeping well (now that I can recognise when he's sleepy!), usually goes down for a sleep at night-time at about 8pm & wakes up at 2ish!!! But then again at 5am... during the day he dosn't sleep the greatest.
All the stories of the leaky boobies sound familiar... mine go all tingly & leak when I just think of him, & they have a habit of spraying when I get in the shower & the hot water hits me. I might have to get a breast pump & give the expressing a go... I wanna a break too!!! Bubz has only gained 230 grams since birth, so it might build up my supply too.
Ahh, yes it does go fast... on Wednesday he'll be 4 weeks!!!
It's great to be (finally) back on-line, can't wait to share all our joys of this wonderful journey together!!!:hugs:
(Is it just me or is anybody else already thinking of ttc the next one with excitement???)

Tan - omg I am very hormonal!!
Camille - I use an avent isis pump and she has anywhere from 60-125mls a feed. I also have freezer bags to store my milk, it lasts 6 months! That way nothing goes to waste and you have supplies on hand :)
Anita _ Love the pics what a gorgoues girl!!

hey ladies...
i've had so much trouble expressing milk  i use the same pump as you ladies but it just wont work:confused: ... my milk just runs back down the breast cup back at me... and i end up with sticky breastmilk all over me... i REALLY want to express as well... but i just cant do it.
miss ani... they're gorgeous pics!!!! thanks for your post about my birth story too- it made me smile.
hope everyone is having a good day... aalliyah has cut back to 3 hourly feeds overnight cause of her lil growth spurt... but still settling perfectly and sleeping well. i hope it lasts.
i am starting to feel guilty... i've been thinking about giving up breast feeding:gloomy: its a horrible prospect and it makes me so sad and guilty to even think about it but im starting to dislike it... and i cant express and sometimes its just all too overwhelming! other times i love it... its definately going to be the hardest thing ill have to do so far.

Oh babygirl, you are not alone! Im feeling guilty too, I dont enjoy breastfeeding at all, it is so consuming (mentally and physically), my nipples hurt, the letdown reflex kills me, my boobs are huge and uncomfortable, I get no sleep.... :crying:
Last night I was ready to give it all up, I got out the steraliser and bottles and formula and was ready to get them ready, but I couldnt bring myself to do it because of the guilt. :(
For the first time I can actually breastfeed, but I hate it. I am so confused and dont know what to do for the best. Do I continue to breastfeed and be cranky and feel awful but know my baby is getting the best, or do I bottlefeed, get some sleep and be happy again?

I'm with Bexta!
Try expressing just a lil bit to releive those swollen boobies. Even 20mls can be enough, don't over express or you will make more!!
Try some nipples shields, give them a break for a lil while if they are hurting.
I get painful let down too so can't help you out on that bit sorry.

Definately agree with happy mum=happy baby, regardless of what milk is going into their mouth. But it does get easier. Nick & i were hopeless at attachement, and i was wondering how it could be so easy with DD & hard with him, but onc we hit the 5-6week mark it has all been working so much better. My milk has settled down, and i almost never get the engorged feeling, which is great! But at the end of the day - DO NOT feel guilty for how you feed your bubs. They are only little for such a short time - you need to enjoy it, not feel guilty or upset!
BG - if you are using the avent pump - is the little white seal thing in the right way? you have to put it in from the bottom (where the bottle attaches, otherwise the milk can't run down (i did this wrong when i first got it. :o ) and maybe try leaning fwd - when i have a big let down i nearly overflow the thing too. And if all else fails and you need a night off, you can buy sachets of formula, a one off night of formula won't affect your supply, but it might let you get some well needed rest.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm:confused: ill have to check the seal thingy... which way does it go?? little spike things or flat side up??? maybe thats our problem...

i expressed breastmilk!!!!!!!!! im so happy :D its just a start but i managed to get 70 mls and im going to add to that again in an hour.
IM SO EXCITED... this may mean i can feed for longer... im still aiming for 6 weeks but we'll see.
THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT LADIES... im going to bed happy tonight!!!!
just a question: how much should i be expressing?? how much should she take per feed etc?

I found that with the avent make sure that white thing is in right, spiky side facing up and just give it a light push to make sure that the milk can drip through...
Start with the 70mls and see how she goes... if she wants more you will know for next time!

YAY BG - that's great!! It's such a relief when you realise you have the milk frozen, so that if you need a break you can sleep or go somewhere & know that bubs can still be fed. :yelclap:
Nick took about 110mL when DH gave him a bottle, but he is a bit older. I expressed 140mL from the feed he missed, so he probably got about the right amount. DH said he had that drunk sleepy look on his face.:D They all take diff amounts at dif times - with DD, i would freeze it in 12mL lots & 40mL lots, so if she wanted more than 120mL - you onlyhad to defrost another 40mL, which was quicker, and you knew you wouldn't be wasting 120mL if she only took another 20. I always had sticks of formula on hand just in case (except when she was at the MIL - as she would have given her the formula over the EBM :shame: )

great to hear you got the expressing down pat, BG!
lily and i have been so lucky with breastfeeding. there were a few attachment issues in the first few days, but now we're a great bub'n'booby team!!! she'll feed anywhere - i'm actually feeding her now while i type, and she had a feed in the shower yesterday as well. :) i'm going to be doing a bit of hand expressing soon though as DP and i are going out to friends farewell drinks in a few weeks. i'll feed lily before we go out but will leave sone EBM with my mum to give missy if she gets fussy.

Hi there!!! I think we all must've gotten our BFP's around fathers day & given birth around mothers day!!! Perfect timing:laughing:.
I'm off to buy a breast pump today... also because DS hasn't put on much weight & the midwife at the clinic says he's not getting the fatty hind milk (just the sugary/lactose fore milk???) So I'll express after each feed on the same breast to see how much he's leaving behind. She said this is evident because his poos are green???

hey ladies... we had a really unsettled night with wind:thumbsdown: she wasnt crying but was just waking every two hours and wanted to be held.. i think laying belly to belly helped her wind. i might try some drops this week... our attatchment is shocking!!! she has such a little mouth and even when its open all the way she can only just fit the nipple in... but we'll perservere... im so happy i can express... i ended up feeding her the bottle of 100mls i expressed and she drank it all and then wanted like two minutes more until she was content with her 'drunk boobie' face lol... so im guessing if i manage to get about 130/ 140mls per express freeze then we should be right for now... she has feeding bursts lately... she'll only feed for a really short time... 15 minutes lately then while im burping her she'll fall asleep... and sleep for three hours... i was scared but all her poos are yellow (* told this was good*) and she has LOTS of poos and wee's everyday... and she's happy so i assume we're going ok.
i had such an emotional night... i was SOOOOOOO excited about the expressing and that she took it and drank it!!!
Well done babygirl! Isn't it a great feeling when you express all that milk and they drink it all? Took me a while to get the hang of expressing and I topped Anna up with formula a few times (I felt like the worlds worst/no milkiest mother!) so it's good to have the expressing thing down pat now.
Miss Ani you fed in the shower!?! Every day you amaze me  Good on you!
I think I may have had a "bad attachement" day yesterday, my nipples are sooooo sore. I've been giving Anna EBM so far today to give them a rest I know I should stick her on the boob to toughen them up but OMG it hurts.
Charlis mum thanks for the tip about storing in 40ml lots, I have wasted a fair bit, it's like tipping liquid gold down the drain!
The comm health nurse will be here soon, I hope she weighs bubs, with all this milk she's guzzling she had better put on weight.
Have a great day ladies and big cuddles to all your gorgeous bubs!

i have sore nipple days as well, but i find that if i just persevere they do get better. i call good attachment 'special k lips' as that's how lily's lips look like the K on a box of special K when she's attached well.
good luck with the comm nurse visit today! we get our first visit on monday.

lol twitch i feel your pain with the nipples... i remeber in hospital she was so bad at attatching my nipples had about 5 blood blisters on each nipple and grazes and cracks... i used to cry when she fed.... it was horrible. they dont split anymore but they're very tender on the tips now after she feeds... we're slowly getting there!
im trying to get my supply up for her by feeding and expressing... i want a night out with DP in the next few weeks.. he misses having me out, keeps asking when he can take me out n spoil me lol....

Hi SammyJane - Love the pic, your boys are gorgeous - the little jumpsuit is also gorgeous!
miss ani - great job feeding in the shower  I have managed the bath beore, but not the shower.
Bexta - I've never noticed the link between mothers day/father day before - pretty cool! We told the family on fathers day i was preggas, and if Nick wasn't early it would have been pretty close to mothers day for his arrival. lol. 30mL is not embarassing - i was only getting 5-10mL when i first started.:D
BG - poor bubba with wind (and you for worrying about her) I had been holding my nipple with Nick for a while - he had such a tiny mouth & weak suck, that he'd loose the attachment if i didn't hold it. So for most feeds for the first few weeks i'd keep it pinched to make sure he had enough in his mouth. I had to move my fingers around a heap to make sure i wasn't blocking any ducts (don't want blocked duct or mastitis - ouch!) but now he has a stronger suck - i dont' need to.

Hey guys I can finally join the club :smiliedance:
Ebanee is doing well through the day but nights are getting to be a bit of a drama. She would sleep all day if I let her but wants booby every hour at night time. I have been waking her every 3 hours for a feed during the day but she just falls asleep after 5-10mins. I try pushing out milk into her mouth, tickling under her chin, squeezing her feet and a wet facecloth but she is a stubborn one.
Also my milk came in with a vengeance yesterday and my boobs were so huge. They went rock hard and were too big I couldn't even express with my electric pump. I had a shower and the hot water did nothing. I ended up using the nipple shield to get Ebs to attach and once finished I expressed both breasts until they were soft (midwife told me to do this). It took me 3 hrs all up but only got out about 200mls. It seemed to help a little though cause when I woke up this morning I was dripping from both boobs and they were much softer and Ebs went straight on.
Just a question - how long does it take you to express 100mL, and do you get it from just the one breast or do you do both? I can't believe how long it takes for me to express, even though my electric pump is the type that the hospital uses.

On a good day I can express 125 from my right boob only lol takes maybe half hour or bit less!

When i expressed off one boob first thing of a morning, i got 140mL, that took about 20mins? or so. But if i tried later in the day it would probably onlybe about 80mL int he same time, or that was the case with DD - more in the morning than later in the day.
I can get 100mls in about half an hour, that's from both boobies tho. I am expressing atm. I find it heaps easier to express than breastfeed and i give her the bottle of ebm at night then express straight after. Sooo much quicker than bf'ing 3 times a night.
*babygirl*
30-05-2007, 17:06
hey ladies...
i had dramas with expressing today... only managed to get about 80mls but i think i express better at night time... and my boobies are FULL now... they normally dont get FULL so hopefully this means my supply is building.
im going to experiment with formula this friday night... im going out and mum is looking after aalliyah... and i plan to express enough for four feeds and the other three use formula and see how it sits with her... do u think this will be ok? if i feed her formula for a few feeds in 24hours? i just want to see how she sits with it because i may be converting to formula soon:gloomy: maybe in the next three weeks... but every feed she gets of boobie milk is a bonus and i just have to make us both happy... so three/four/six weeks is better than nothing. its sad but i guess ill have to do it eventually.

kristy... how does the formula feed sit with her? did it effect your supply?
so it wont hurt her to have a bit of both?
im thinking about giving her a bit of both... is that wrong to give her half/half... im not going to do that for about 4 weeks but i'd like to know how it might effect her...
this is the BIGGEST descision i've ever had to make (* i know there will be more like this*)... i just cant decide what to do  its ALL i think about... the guilt is enough to break my heart. i want her to be happy and im convinced that as soon as i wean her she'll hate me for not giving her what is best:gloomy: but where do you draw the line? i cant feed her all her life and im not happy... but she is so how could i POSSIBLY justify taking it away. man i hate this feeling. its killing me.
Wow, the last few days have been the hardest so far....:gloomy:
I developed mastitis after getting engorged and have decided to stop breastfeeding. Im on antibiotics and feel awful...but as a positive, Isaac has been going 4 hours between feeds and I actually got 4 hours sleep last night!!!:smiliedance: TWICE!!
Babygirl,I spent the best part of yesterday balling my eyes out thinking that I was a bad mother for having stopped breastfeeding (mastitis ended my breastfeeding twice before with my other kids and I really thought I could do it this time:no: )
I keep telling myself that at least he got 4 weeks of my milk and just to look how healthy and intelligent my other 2 kids are (they are both gifted) so formula feeding will not hinder him at all.
And another positive - Isaac has been giving me smiles in the last few days (and not just wind!!) - the first time made me cry - he is just so gorgeous!:D

:hugs: Camille. Its great when they let you sleep.
Jacob has been giving me smiles too and also trying to talk but just cant get the voice thing happening yet. He was born the same day as Isaac was.
It is truley a heart warming thing to see, i forgot was its like to see thier first smiles, its been a long time for me.
Babygirl :hugs: It is a hard choice.... I had to make a choice to formula feed when Jacob was 1 and a half weeks old as it was just not working for me or Jacob, I felt so guilty for days and days, i ended up talking to my MIL, mum and my husband and a health nurse and then i made the choice, but now we are both very happy and he is very content.
Other than his growth spurt week where he was a little on the unsettled side.
I should've got on here last night & read those last few posts.
We had a hard afternoon & night here... DS screaming when DH got home & nothing I had been doing was settling him. I think he was just tired but was over-tired & had trouble settling himself (we had workmen outside our house & DS didn't get much sleep at all. The only thing to quiet him was to be on the boob, but he was only using that for comfort as he wasn't feeding.
I put him in his bassinet off the boob only for him to wake & scream (blood-curdling)... it was heartbreaking :crying:. DH said it made him feel sick. We would go in to comfort him & he would stop straight away, he was clean & dry, fed & winded... just tired. This went on for ages, over & over. DH ended up holding him sitting on the lounge... this worked for 10 minutes & then he started again. DH thought he was hungry as DS was rooting & trying to suck his fist off so I tried to feed him only to have him have a small amount & then fall asleep. The only thing we could think of doing was a formula feed. I made up 100mls (sounds like a quick process, but had to sterilise everything & boil water etc!). DH gave it to him & he just guzzled it down!!! At first he looked at DH probably thinking "What do you think you're doing stoopid?".
Well anyway, the formula didn't work... he was loud a bit longer until I went to bed. I still think he was just tired... maybe a dummy would soothe him (didn't want to use one though)?
Sorry for such a long post!!! Just needed to get it out... I just felt like such a failure last night :(.
Kristy - LOVE your new avatar! I will get around to working out how to do that!!!

Oh my gosh, I have been away for a few days and have missed so much!!
Jet had a fantastic night last, asleep from 8.30pm until 7am this morning, only waking at 1am for a feed!!!
I am wanting to express some milk as my 21st birthday is on Saturday and I would like to have a drink. I have an Aventi breast pump but wouldn't have the first clue about expressing. When should I do it?? How much should I get? Is it ok to store the milk straight into a bottle?? HELP!!!!

Bexta .... :hugs: You arent a failure at all.
I had Jacob scream and i mean scream for 3 hours one night and i was the only one home at the time, this is my 3rd child and no matter what i did it didnt help, i had no idea, i was very close to tears many times.
Jacob has a dummy and yes it does soothe him, he doesnt have it all the time, he tells you when he doesnt want it believe me LOL
I'm not normally a dummy fan, neither of my older boys had them. But sometimes if it helps and it makes bubs happy and mummy happy then you just have to do it.
Thats also a statement from 2 middies/nurses.
Hope you have a better day/night.
Wow Qldmummy, he slept very well.... can he teach Jacob now LOL

Just thought I drop in and say hi to everyone, Skye has been really good the last few nights and sleeping 6 hours in a row :smiliedance: (though she needs to have 2 bottles before she does) some nights she can be a bit hard to settle but once shes asleep she sleeps for ages.
Can't wait to get her into a proper routine though I won't do that til shes about 2 or 3 months anyway.
So how is everyone doing?

:hugs: camille & BG - it must be hard to want to breastfeed, but be struggling with it. The most important thing is that you are happy, and you are in a state that you are able to provide for them, if that includes bottlefeeding then so be it. You are both great mums for even trying.
BG - it will not hurt bubs at all to have a few formula feeds. If it is a one-off in24hrs, your supply won't be affected. But if you keep it up - ie 2 bottles a day at 11am and 9pm - then your body will stop having milk ready at that time, and it will be ahrd to build it back up again. So just make sure you are certain before you do it. It shouldn't effect your milk at the other times you feed.
Bexta - don't you HATE those sorts of night! Nick had one of those the other night too - from 6pm-10:30 crying & wanting nothing bu the boob, they were empty as he ahd been going for so long, but he screamed whenever i took them off him. It's those moments I want to give him a bottle too as so many people tell you how they settle better on formula. We tried it with DD, and it didn't make one bit of difference, so i'll jsut keep the booby up with nick & wait out the growth spurt.
Sammi Jane - :hugs: for your bad night. I also think that Nick is my second and i should know how to handle things, but i don't always.
mum2bubba - YAY for Skye sleeping so well! 6hrs is great.
Today is great so far! DD is at daycare, and it is the first time since DH has been back at work that we have stayed home most of the day. Just me & my new man. I gave him some naked time in the sunlight coming in the window earlier and just talked & played & had tummy time too. He was almost gurgling (hard to tell when he grunts so much) and grinning at me being down on the floor with him. Nice & relaxing. He is sleeping now, and i got to eat my lunch in peace, without having to chase after DD. *sigh* can't wait until next thursday now - might have another relaxing one.
How is everyone elses day?

It IS good, Hayley slept 7 hours her first night home but I had to keep checking on her so I didn't sleep all that well anyway.
[QUOTE=SammiJane;1525452]How much is she drinking in that night time feed Cassie?
About 180 mils (120 in one bottle and 60 mls in another) I am thinking maybe for her last feed at night (before she goes down in her basinett) giving her more in her bottle the only problem is that sometimes she vomits milk everywhere (projectile vomits I mean) but after that she is fine. I also give her a bit of water too but she only takes about 20 mls.

hey guys.
well we had another ordinary night with poor little lily, last night. we FINALLY got her to settle at 3am... and only because she fell asleep whilst i was feeding her. she just screamed for most of the evening if we tried to put her down, and kept on bringing up milk. we're taking her to the doctors again today as i'm pretty sure she's got some bad reflux going on. poor little mite. i managed to get about 2 1/2 hours sleep so i'm hoping i can fit in a nap this afternoon before we go to the doctors. we actually ended up giving her a dummy last night which worked for a while. i guess we'll see how we go tonight...

kristy... how does the formula feed sit with her? did it effect your supply?
so it wont hurt her to have a bit of both?
im thinking about giving her a bit of both... is that wrong to give her half/half... im not going to do that for about 4 weeks but i'd like to know how it might effect her...
this is the BIGGEST descision i've ever had to make (* i know there will be more like this*)... i just cant decide what to do  its ALL i think about... the guilt is enough to break my heart. i want her to be happy and im convinced that as soon as i wean her she'll hate me for not giving her what is best:gloomy: but where do you draw the line? i cant feed her all her life and im not happy... but she is so how could i POSSIBLY justify taking it away. man i hate this feeling. its killing me.
Not at all!! And nope it has not affected my supply, I get DH to feed the formula and I express at the same time and I freeze it for a rainy day :)
I have had a good day today, I am happy and so is my bubby!
Mastitis is clearing up with the antibiotics and Isaac is taking well to the formula (wow those poos certainly change, I liken it going from satay chicken sauce to thick pumpkin soup!!). He is sleeping really well and going much longer between feeds (3-4 hours instead of 1.5 - 2 hours):yelclap: .
We weighed him today and he is 5.20kg - WOW:eek: , cant believe he has put on so much weight, he was only 4.48kg last Tuesday! I feel a little sad as my breast milk must have been very good and plentiful.
Hope everyone's bubs are starting to get into a routine.....and giving their mums a break!:devil6:
Hi everyone!
Had a reasonable day today... met with the MHCN & she set my mind at rest re: the weight gain ( & apparently the green poo is because of me taking iron supplements:detective: ).
SammiJane - the midwife today also told me to give a dummy a go as some babies are naturally *scratching head to think of word* 'suckers'.
Cassie - yay Skye is sleeping so well!!!
Tan - Sounds like you had a wonderful day. My DS dosn't like 'free' time with no nappy... he cries as soon as I take it off & is quiet when it's firmly in place! Our house is like a freezer, so we won't be doing that for a while yet.
Anita - I'm considering trying a dummy tonight too. He's a bit unsettled (but not as much as last night), but I'll try wrapping him like the MHCN showed me today & the settling techniques she suggested. :fingerscrossed: they work & I have a better night.
Camille - I'm glad Isaac is sleeping better & giving you a break. I'm not looking forward to those formula poos either... but I suppose it just gets smellier the older they get (wait 'till they start solids! Pheeeew!!!)
I had better go, tonight seems to be panning out just like last night... LOUD!
Big hugs Bexta, hope your little man settles tonight, and remember it's no reflection on you as a mummy.
I've been giving Annalise formula the last 2 days as well as expressing what I can while she has that and popping her on the boob for some feeds. She's gone from 3 or 4 hourly feeds to every hour and a half, it's insane. I'm pretty much naked from the waist up all day and night, either feeding or expressing. Soooo tired, sore nipples, not enough milk. Whinge whinge whinge.
She also has a dummy which she loves and I love, like someone else said, as long as it works and mum and bubs are happy that's all that matters.
Camille I am so sorry to hear about your mastitis, I have heard some really horrid stories about the pain, I hope you are ok.
Better go cook dinner.
Have a great night ladies. Hope you all get some sleep

31-05-2007, 21:28
hey ladies...
my supply has DEFINATELY increased lol...BOTH boobies are filling completely in between feeds so i express one and feed off the other...
i havent taken the formula plunge yet but i think ill breath a huge sigh of relief once its done. im going to express and feed some during the day and formula at night. i dont know EXACTLY how it will work but if my supply dries up after i put her on formula then i guess thats ok... i just want her getting some 'liquid gold' until about 6 weeks.. even if that is only one feed a day... its better than nothing.
im leaving aalliyah with mum tomorrow night and me and DP are having a night out:smiliedance: im so excited... i need to prove to dp and myself that i can be both mother and lover. i can do anything if i can be both:yes: and i dont want me and dp to forget why we love each other... we both love aalliyah more than life itself but we cant neglect our love... we have to show aalliyah HOW to love.. and that comes from watching us. we cant be fighting and resentful. so im excited for a night out... i dont feel like its too soon and aalliyah is such a good bub!!!
sorry for my rant lol... i have internal monolouges running through my head 24/7 about feeding and leaving her with mum.
Thanks for your hugs twitch... big :hugs: to you too. Geez, I hope your supply increases (& your nip nips recover!!!) It's hard work this feeding stuff!!!
We had a better night (early evening was another story). DH gave him a formula feed prior to bed & wrapped him but he was still having trouble settling, so we gave in & tried the dummy... worked a treat at keeping him quiet but he prefered to fall asleep after he let it drop out of his mouth... I suppose it's easier to drop off to sleep when you're relaxed.
Babygirl - don't apologise for being in love... it's lovely to see!!! Enjoy you're night out tonight... are you having a fashion crisis??? DH & I decided last night to also go out on a 'date' within the next couple of weeks now that DS is taking the bottle so well... but I don't fit into my pre-pregnancy clothes (I'd have to be dead for a year to fit into those again:laughing: ).
Hope everyone had a great night of sleep...

Hey ladies, sounds like we are all having good and bad days with our little ones. :hugs: to all of you for doing a great job so far.
Ebanee is getting to be a real little sleeper during the day, but not at all at night so I'm waking her for a feed every 3 hours through the day to try and get her sleeps stretched out at night.
Thankfully my milk has settled down. After I completely emptied them the night that my milk came in (took 3 hrs) they refilled to a much more comfortable level which means Ebs is able to attach and suck, which has made the both of us a lot happier. We're still getting used to the booby feeds but it's something that I'm sure will get easier in time.
Went and bought her some clothes yesterday cause she's straight into size 000. We had a heap of DD1's clothes set aside for her but they're all 0000 and not a chance of fitting her.
Here's some pics of my little big girl
about 2 mins old (http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s240/donnaandscotty/P5260050.jpg)
getting weighed (http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s240/donnaandscotty/P5260051.jpg)
first bath (http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s240/donnaandscotty/P5270069.jpg)
Just wondering, did I have the biggest baby? She was 10lbs12.5oz (4.88kg). DD1 didn't reach that until she was 7wks old!!!
donna n ani I loooove those pics!! Ebanee is so much bigger than my long, skinny miss, she was 7 pounds 8. I reckon you may have had the biggest bub, I got an sms from Ally (pink Lady) and her gorgeous little big man Jedd was 9 pounds 7 which I thought was big. Annalise is in 000 now too but only because she has long legs like her mummy and can't stretch them out in 0000's.
babygirl that is so sweet that you and your DP are having a night out and are so in love! Makes me go all gooey :o Don't feel guilty for leaving Aaliyah with your mum, I do it with Anna all the time!
Thanks for the hugs bexta, my nip nips are still sore, hopefully it calms down soon :fingerscrossed: Poor little things have never been so over-sucked in their life!
What does everyonoe have planned for the weekend? I am getting my hair done tomorrow :smiliedance: then my brothers engagement party tomorrow night - watch out champagne! :devil6:

Donna your Eb is soooo cute and yes she sure is a little big girl, my Eb is not quite that weight yet at 6 weeks hehe but goes to show what an awesome baby baker you are girl!! :smiliedance:
I have just tried to feed Annalise and OMG my nipples felt like someone was slicing them with a razor blade. I called the community health nurse who is also a lac consultant and she said she thinks it's thrush and to go to the chemist tomorrow for some cream for me and drops for Anna. So ladies if you feel like that (burnimg, needle like pain that is really bad when you startand finish feeding) it could be thrush. Annalise also has a white mark on her gum and is really irritable. I have to give her EBM until it's sorted.
Oh twitch I really hope it sorts itself out... that must be so painful.
DS was getting a bit grizzly when were waiting in a queue the other day, he was rooting at his fist so I gave him my bottom lip to suck on... I tell you what, gee they have a strong suck on them!!! It hurt so much & my poor lip looked like I had a cherry on it!!! So the moral of the story is our poor nips really are going through torture...
Donna - what a gorgeous bubba you made, love the piccy of her having a bath... her hair is lovely.

He has been feeding on & off since about 5pm, and have just heard him wake again now after half an hours sleep. Off i go again to get the booby out....it gets so tiring. Will catch up properly later....or maybe sunday night the way my weekend is stacked! :hugs:

The other day Hayley was sitting next to Skye on the couch and Skye was doing the rooting reflex (sucking) on Hayley's arm, Hayley was just looking at me in a wierd way as if to say "what the hell is she doing, mum?"

hey all.
camille - glad to hear your mastitis is clearing up. i've had a few blocked ducts but luckily no infections.
twitch - the thrush sounds nasty. hopefully it clears up for yourself and annalise soon!
babygirl - a night out sounds great! DP and i are going to venture out in june for our first night out. mum is going to babysit lily and i'll have my first real go at expressing. hopefully lily will take the EBM if she needs it (i'll feed her to bursting point before we head out!).
the doctors visit was okay yesterday - somewhat bitter sweet. lily had to end up having her little fingers swabbed as she may have picked up the staph infection from the hospital she was born at after all. the good news is that it is easily treated with antibiotics, but we'll find out on monday if she does have the infection. lily has also 'failed to thrive' and has only put on 100g since we bought her home 2 weeks ago. the doctor told us not to worry too much as she was 2 weeks early and she was also a little jaundiced - the doctor was pleased that she is feeding well and frequently, has bright eyes and a strong cry. she is otherwise very healthy. however we do need to buy even more 0000 clothes as she won't grow out of them as soon as i thought.
on the 'sweet' side, the doctor was amazed at how strong lily's neck muscless are - she has already started trying to lift her head and rolls herself onto her side constantly (like a little curl grub!).
last night we had a much better night. i ended up feeding lily to sleep in our bedroom (not in the loungeroom where i usually do) so as to stay away from the distraction of the tv (which she tries to watch). she slept for a good 1 1/2 hours before waking for another feed (in the bedroom)... then was a bit unsettled but DP managed to settle her within an hour. she then slept another 2 hours. feed (in the bedroom). then slept solidly from 4am - 7am (waking for a feed in front of the today show which is
our usual ritual)!! in fact i woke up before she did!!
i don't want to get too ahead of myself... but :fingerscrossed: she sleeps like that again tonight
Hello ladies, big hugs to everyone and there little bundles. Sorry I haven't been on much since Sam came home but with my parents over it was difficult. They flew back home on Monday which was very hard we were all upset.:crying: I now have to try and get into a routine now they have gone home. It's quite difficult being as i haven't had to do anything for the past 11 weeks.
Sam is doing excellent he's now 7lb 14oz (3.8kg) he's growimg so fast. The MCHN is really pleased with him and he's got a Pediatrician appointment on Monday. On the other hand I had my 6wk postnatal yesterday and because i'm still bleeding I've got to go for an u/s to check that they didn't leave anything in after the c-sec. :( I've also got to have blood tests and a pap smear.
Sam has been suffering with wind quite bad last night and this morning and I think he might be a bit constipated due to the iron he's on poor little thing. I'm hoping the Pediatrician will say he doesn't need to stay on the iron with him growing so well.
Well that's it for now I'll check in again later.

good morning all. (whinge ahead.. you have been warned!)
we had yet another terrible night. although she cat napped a few times, lily didn't settle properly until 6am. i was beside myself by the end of the night and just bawled into my pillow. :crying: to make matters feel 100 times worse (although i know things could be a LOT worse) i've also got a huge blocked milk duct that is rock hard and soooo sore. i managed to move it a bit when i had a shower this morning, and i'm hoping i can unblock the rest while feeding today and that it doesn't become infected. i still love feeding my little girl though - it's the one time i feel really relaxed and can enjoy some quiet time with her.
sorry for the whinge guys - i just had to vent. hope everyone else has a good weekend!
Big hugs to you Anita:hugs:. It's so frustrating when they just won't settle... I really hope that things improve for you all tonight & your boobie gets better :fingerscrossed: .
Our night was ok, but he woke more often than usual... I think that he was just being lazy & was feeding for shorter periods, but it's hard to keep him awake to feed when I just want to sleep too!!!
Have a great weekend everyone!!!

:hugs: miss ani... you sound like you are doing an amazing job in a less than perfect situation. we all need to break down sometimes.. it helps release the frustration. i hope she settles for you soon!
ok so the good news is aalliyah has put on 300grams in one week bringing her back up to her birth weight plus some:smiliedance: so we are definately thriving.
my night out last night was AWESOME!!!! me and dp had such a good time! i won 500 bucks at the casino on poker lol... i was stoked so we're taking our little miss out to dinner tonight. MY SHOUT lol.
aalliyah was at mums and on half breast milk half formula for the night and mum said she sucked down the formula and slept for 5 hours! and has been perfectly happy with no wind!!! i cant wait to go and pick her up from mums and give her a big kiss... i've been expressing all the 'bad' milk out today and so far i have expressed nearly 600 mls in 12 hours lol... im so stoked... so when i put her back on boobie milk tonight hopefully there is no trace of alcohol left in it... i didnt go overboard last night but i did have a few. i cant wait to get her back... im going to try to do a bit of breast feeding, a bit of expressed feeding and a bit of formula. i hope it works... i want her to get as much breast milk as she can... and my supply is still increasing so i hope we can manage!...
im off to get my lil bubba back and give her 10000000 BIG KISSES...
take care ladies.

Tan - Ebony has thrush on her tongue, strangely I did not get it! We used mycostatin drops.
Anita - Hope bub is alright! Watch that lump too, when you feed, attach bub so that her chin is facing the lump, it helps to drain it.
Michelle - That would have been so hard to say goodbye to your parents, I got upset when Mum left. Hope they didn't leave anything behind after the op, I had that this time too, not good!
BG Ebony sleeps for 5 hrs too after her formula feed!!
Well last night Eb didn't settle until midnight and only slept 2.5 hours
Hi all, does anyone have a little routine happening yet with their bubs?
We sort of do, he definately seems to settle well after a feed at night (no play time), after his 11pm feed he goes straight to sleep then wakes around 3am for a feed, goes straight back to sleep then wakes up fresh faced for a feed around 7am then is wide awake!:ecomcity:
The bottle feeding is going really well, he is on S26 and we are using the Lindam bottles. We started with Avent but they were ****, kept leaking and he couldnt suck the teat properly without it all leaking out the side of his mouth. The Lindam bottles are fantastic with the little vacuum valve to suck the bubbles out, he hardly even burps anymore and sucks the teet much better. We use the lindam steam steraliser too.
I am happy and Isaac is so much more settled, I wont speak too soon though with his 6 week growth spurt coming up, it may all go out the window!! Did this happen with anyone else? I know the 3 week growth spurt was a shocker:eek:
The mastitis is slowly easing, my left breast is nearly clear but my right breast is still hard in areas with blocked ducts (miss ani I feel for you)....my nipples are healing too...(twitch you poor thing).
Donna - your bub is absolutely gorgeous!
We took Isaac to the beach for the first time yesterday, I know he cant appreciate it, but it was the same beach where my DH and I had our first date and kiss so it was kinda special   ..
Have a great weekend everyone!

Skye is sort of in a routine, she has specific times of the day and night when she feeds, she always feeds at about 1-1.30am then sleeps until about 5:30-6am, she feeds about every 3 to 4 hours during the day and about every 4 to 6 hours at night/early morning. Our day starts at about 9am.

BG - sounds like your night out was just what you needed. Your last post sounds so much more confident that some others. You seem like you have a good plan of combining boobie/EBM/formula that will make you happy and bubs healthy, well done!:smiliedance:
Anita - :hugs: sounds like a nasty night -i hope tonight is better. |Hope that nasty blockage is gone now.
camille - good to hear the mastitis is clearing up. We had probs with avent bottles too - some are good, others are awful & leaky. Nick is using the pidgeon breast like ones now - although he has only had one bottle since i bought them. lol. They seem to be pretty good - very stretchy! Nick had (is still having) that terrible 6week growth spurt. It kicked in around 6 1/2weeks but he ahs been pretty good so far tonight - maybe it's over?? I hope so - feeding for 4hrs straight for the last few nights has not been the best.
Charli was an angel for me today, DH was at work, so it was much easier for me to have her behaving! Hopefully she is starting to get used to the fact that Nick is here for good now. He ahs been a very good boy too today - i hope tonight is the same. :fingerscrossed:
I had better get off to bed & get some sleep while i have the chance - seeyas.
Morning ladies!
Miss Ani you poor thing! That's great avice from Kristy to help to drain your boob, it worked for me
Camille I am so glad to hear the mastitis is easing up, some of the stories about the pain I've heard are just terrible.
I have a "sort of" routine with Annalise but it all goes out the window on weekends when DH is home :banghead: He spoils her.
Babygirl you gambler you! Congrats on your 500 buck win. Your shout then?!
Well we had dinner with my family last night and my dad's wife was at her best again - picking up Annalise out of the pram WHILE SHE WAS ASLEEP, so she woke up grisly and I had to feed her, then she went back to sleep so the ESM (Evil Step Mother) woke her up again by - get this - forcing her eyes open with her thumb! What is wrong with her? So I got p!ssed off and we came home. It then took me and DH 3 hours to settle her. Honestly that woman is gonna get a kick in the head one day.
We are off to the Parenting Expo today, hopefully I'll get some tips on where to hide an ESM's body...
Have a great day ladies.
Hi everyone... such a busy weekend I'm surprised I'm even able to get on to BH today!!!
Miss ani - I hope your (.)(.) are getting better. I consider myself lucky to not have gotten mastitis (yet :fingerscrossed: ).
Kristy - hope u got a bit more sleep last night (& again tonight)... any idea as to what was keeping her unsettled?
Babygirl - you go girl!!! Sounds like you had an awesome night!!!
Camille - Thank gooness your mastitis is clearing up.
Twitch - I hope you have the thrush under control... is Annalise still feeding well with it? I hope it clears up for you soon. Did tou have a good day at the expo?
We are slowly getting into a routine... DH is enjoying giving the evening bottle (of formula, still not doing very good with the expressing). Took some photos of DS & DH having their first shower together this morning... DS just loved it!!! Even getting his face wet!!! & we are getting HEAPS of smiles!!! Thought it was too early at first, but it happens all the time when we speak directly to him so it cant just be wind!!!

03-06-2007, 19:16
kristy - thanks for the advice! i combined it with a little massage when feeding and it worked a treat!! no more blocked duct!
twitch - that is crazy!! i can't belive the ESM would do that!! i don't blame you for being so ****ed off!!
bexta - my boobie is feeling loads better today. :D
unfortunately we found out that lily has contracted the staph infection on her little fingers. the GP was great though, she spoke with the microbiologist at the IMVS and apparently it's not bad enough to require antibiotics, but we have to swab her fingers regularly with alcohol wipes. :fingerscrossed: it clears up soon - i'm sure it's contributing to her fussy nights (of which we had another one last night).
I hope the staph infection clears up... I know that DS has heaps of 'hangnails' around his fingers, the alcohol swabs must sting her.. poor bubba.
Oh poor Lily! I hope it's not too much drama swabbing her little fingers :hugs:
I have to give Annalise Nilstat drops to clear up the trush in her mouth. I feel SOOOO bad giving it to her. You know that face you pull if you eat a lemon? That's what she does and it just breaks my heart. I am rubbing Canestan into my nipples everry few hours and I took a Diflucan pill so hopefully my poor nip nips recover.
I have been feeding Anna EBM in a bottle for 3 days but we're going back to the breast tomorrow, I hope she doesn't reject me :gloomy:
Twitch - my hubby says he can't wait to give DS a lemon to suck to see that cute face they make... I hope the nilstat & canestan works :fingerscrossed: . She wont reject you... she'll be hanging off your boobies to make up for lost time!!!

today i had the most special moment... this is one of the first times i've felt in love with being a mother... (* dont get me wrong i love aalliyah and derek more than life itself and my maternal instinct is spot on and full force... but i missed the crucial three hours after her birth so sometimes, whilst i love her more than anything i dont always associate her with my pregnancy... sometimes i forget the miracle in front of me CAME FROM ME iykwim*) ANYWAYS... i had a shower with aalliyah today and she was against my chest with her head back in the water... licking it off her lips and then coming in close and nuzzling me with her lips and head... looking striaght at me with all the trust and love in the world... and i was kissing her and talking to her and she fell asleep on my chest with the warm water on her back.... it was the most precious moment. im so in love lol... definately never showering alone again lol. cant wait until we can have a family shower this weekend :o
and i have a newfound faith in breastfeeding:yes: im determined to fully breast feed again for at least three or four more weeks... its slowly getting easier... im glad i didnt give up. i have people on bub hub to thank for that... i could never have inspired myself to perservere with it. im SOOOOOOOOOOOO glad i did.
ill post some fotos when they finish loading.

good morning mummys!
twitch - ooh poor little annaliese (and your poor nips!). hopefully this thrush clears up pretty quickly for you guys - i can't imagine how uncomfortable and painful it must be!
bg - i'm sooo glad to hear that you're going to perservere with the BF!! you watch - a few weeks will become a few months... the more you enjoy it, the easier it becomes - that's what i've found. and i love having a shower with my little lily as well - she even has a feed in there at times. :)
ahhh another restless night - the funny thing is my body now seems to cope quite well!! i was also a bit pleased as even though lily was waking up on the hour again, she woke up - like clockwork - for her morning feed (even though she'd had a feed 15 mins earlier!)... which means she's getting used to getting up at 6.30-ish. so i can start to bank on her getting up at that time now. just have to get the rest of the night sorted!
we had the nurse visit yesterday for the 4 week checkup. lily has put on 110g in 5 days!! i was so proud of my little girl! hopefully she'll be hitting that 150g per week target. she's also grown a good 4cm - so it looks like she's been putting her energy into grown lenghtways instead! i'm also going to get involved in a settling workshop down the road from me so that i can hopefully learn a few good techniques to get her to sleep better at night.
have a good day today, ladies!
bexta - i've been meaning to ask, is that your tatt in your avatar??

miss ani - hope the staph infection clears up soon - poor bubba. And YAY for the weight gain - she is doing really well.
twitch - I am sure bubs Annalise will be sooo happy to be back on the boob today.
BG - YAY for feeling better about breastfeeding. It is amazing how much easier it gets as time passes. I fed DD for almost 12months, and still found it frustrating this time around with Nick, but as he gets older i am remembering just how much easier it gets as they get older. I haven't had a shower with Nick yet - must do it though, as it sounds like a beautiful moment you guys had. The photos are great - you have one gorgeous girl!!
Nick had a cuddle day yesterday - lol. Every time i put him down he's sleep for maybe 15mins then wake up & want cuddles. I got nothing done as a result, but loved the cuddles. I ended up with him in the sling so poor DD could get some attention. He is asleep now, so hopefully today will be better. Havet o get to the shops to get a few things & out to friends for dinner tonight - so i'll probably catch you guys tomorrow. Have a good one.

will udate you all soon.
bg - such lovely pics!
bexta - i've been meaning to ask, is that your tatt in your avatar??
 'Tis me! It wasn't finished in the pic yet... I'll try & get an updated one put up.
Tan - I've resorted to the sling a couple of times (or we wouldn't have eated dinner those nights!!!). I'm enjoying all the cuddles I get with DS now as I know that with DD she dosn't have time for that now she's older:crying: ... at least she still kisses me good-bye at school!!!

Kristy, Ebony is sooo cute I just wanna pick her up and hug her, I love newborns.
You must have been happy that she slept 6 hours, Skye slept 7 hours a few nights ago and I was stoked.
I can't tell you about the needle yet coz Skye is only just over 3 weeks, good luck with it though, I'm sure Ebony will be fine. I get more nervous then the baby for some reason.

Skye has been a pain in the backside last few days, she hasn't slept all that well she just cries and I too can't get anything done either. She is asleep at the mom (been asleep since about 1:15) but she will wake up soon for a feed and then we're going out.
I had my little man Kai on the 19th of May, not even 3 weeks old yet, but he's a pukey one and has trouble settling after night feeds too.. but he sleeps all day. He feeds during the day but falls asleep in the process. Has anyone tried waking their bubs to feed them and try to set a feeding routine?

Hello Ladies
I've finally made it!!! :yelclap:
Jedd is being such a good lil bub so far. He is sleeping for 2 x 3hr blocks at night time with a 3-4hr gap inbetween, and during the day he is up/down every 2-3hrs. Right now he is sleeping in Daddies arms but I'm expecting him to wake up for a feed soon since he went down at about 5pm.
I'm finding comfort sucking to be an issue and despite trying to keep things as al-a-naturale as possible I ended up giving him a dummy. And wow - aren't my nipples grateful for it!! Its definitely helped, and dont regret it one bit.
Apart from the comfort sucking, breastfeeding is going really well. My nipples are killing me, but Jedd is beginning to latch on properly now - its definitely a learning experience and practise makes perfect.
We're co-sleeping at night time too. The first night at home we had him in the cradle, but every night since (all 3 nights lol) I've had him in bed with me instead. He sleeps so much better and I much prefer having him by my side.
Anyhoo - he just spat the dummy (lol) and its time for a feed. Will try and get online again soon!!

I had a problem with Ebs wanting to sleep all day, sometimes 6-7 hours between feeds but then not settling at night or wanting booby every 2 hours. The CHN told me to wake her up every 3 hours for a feed but not change her bum straightaway.. When she's feeding to stroke under her chin to encourage sucking and if she nods off to squeeze my boob (similar to expressing) to force some milk into her mouth. If she still falls asleep stop I stop halfway through and change her bum. That usually gets her awake and sucking. I'm feeding 3hrly during the day but then demand feeding at night which she will normally stretch out for about 4-5 hours (9pm, 1am, 4am then 9am).

Random Question Of The Week: Has anyone started to do anything about loosing the excess baby skin/fat?
Nope, not me!! I am taking advantage of the first 3months. It is the only time i will be able to say that 'i just had a baby' to explain the bely bulge. lol. I have lsot weight compared to when i fell preggas, but still have all that loose skin about my belly - no bikinis any time soon for me. And since i am planning another, i see no point in doing all this hard work now, only to loose it again. When i am done with being pregnant, i'll get serious then. :D

welcome to the new mums!
and a big welcome to Lejay and PL - you've now crossed over!! :D
BG - we got ou babybonus paid in on monday. it took about 1.5 weeks. when did you lodge yours?
ellefreya - lily loves the pram as well when we're out, and is guaranteed to sleep the whole time! have you tried a sling or mei tai at home? i'm so glad i have mine.
mum2bubba - such cute photos!! :D
we had to take lily back to the GP yesterday. the staph infection had gotten worse on her little fingers, so she's now on antibiotics. one of the infection-control nurses from the hospital also rang today to get some more information on when we first noticed the infection etc. hopefully it should clear up in the next week.
we had a FANTASTIC night last night - i'm almost too scared to write about it!! i went to bed just after 9pm. DP bought DD in at
about 10.45pm. she fed for an hour and we had cuddles in bed. i put her into the moses basket at about midnight.... AND SHE SLEPT UNTIL 3AM! fed her - about 1/2 hour and then put her down again.... my little darling slept until 6.45am!!! in fact i woke before she did... and when she did wake up she just babbled away to herself for 15 mins giving me time to get up, go to the loo, feed the cat, get the loungeroom heated up and grab a drink before she demanded a feed!! it was so refreshing to have a decent night's sleep - i feel a million bucks today! :smiliedance: we'll see how she goes tonight.
yesterday my mum took me shopping for some post-pregnancy clothes as i don't fit into any of my pre-preg clothes!! also bought a cute top for lily - here (http://www.rockyourbaby.com/iloveboobies.shtml?s=ST)
mmm lunch... DP has the day off and he has prepared some soup for us. better go enjoy! have a great rest of the day, mummas!

Random Question Of The Week: Has anyone started to do anything about loosing the excess baby skin/fat?
i haven't got a lot to lose i must admit... although i did find out yesterday that i'm a size 12 when it comes to pants and skirts - not a size 10 anymore. i'll just keep up with my walking and get into some pilates soon.
Random Question Of The Week: Has anyone started to do anything about loosing the excess baby skin/fat?
Nup - not me as yet aside from the BF-ing. I put on 13-14kg for this pregnancy and have lost 9kg since coming home from hospy, but nothing more for the last week. I was kinda hoping that another 5kg would just melt away too, but no such luck!
Unfortunately I have been a bit slack in the exercise dept because of mastitis and general ouchiness in the 'Gina Arena... :o Soooooo looking forward to that being gone, I can tell you now! And whilst I thought my chocolate cravings would disappear when no longer pregnant, I was sadly mistaken.... :D

No I use this time to still indulge,
"I'm a breast feeding mum you know"
that's my new line compared to
"don't tell a pregnant women what she can and can't eat"
I've lost 10kg in a week including bub of course so only a few more to get to pre preg weight but would like to lose another 4 to get to pre pre preg weight. (The weight I was before falling preg the first time)
The weight does just drop off when feeding so will start walking when stitches are all healed and this beautiful rain stops.
Max is doing awesome, today he got weighed in at 4.650kg which is a gain of 340g since birth but a gain of 460g since being discharged from hopsital.
Last night was a fluke, he went to bed at 8.30 after a feed and woke at 5am this morning, I got up twice just to check he was still breathing.

No and I'm not going to. I am more happy/confident with my body since having kids then any other time in my life so far, it may sound strange but I like my stretch marks and my flab because I think about how I got that way-by having 2 beautiful babies.

Random Question Of The Week: Has anyone started to do anything about loosing the excess baby skin/fat?
Not yet - but its only 9 days post surgery so hey - gimme a break lol. I have been doing my pelvic floor exercises while bf'ing though, and need to begin my other exercises to bring my abdominal muscles back together. This apron gut is really bugging me - but I'm sure it'll all be okay once I'm past the magical 6 weeks.
Miss Ani - Thank you for the welcome! Its great to be posting HERE instead of the 'Due-In' threads now... So exciting - I cant believe we've finally made it!!
Donna-n-Ani - The routine you have with Ebs is similar to what I do with Jedd. He is always milk drunk after the first boobie, so I wake him up after 20-30 mins of feeding with a nappy change, bath (if needed), burp, and playtime if he is wide awake - and then settle him down with another 20-30 mins on the other boob. By then he is well and truly exhausted and its time to put him down to sleep. He keeps on trying to fight sleep though - so it can take up to 2hrs to settle him.
Marlie - You didnt put on too much weight thru the pregnancy - I'm so jealous! I put on 28kg and I haven't stepped on a set of scales yet to see how much I've lost yet. I think I'll wait until my 6 week appointment - I'm too scared!!!
Jacks Mum - Sounds like Max is doing really well - isn't it rewarding knowing that its your boobs and your body that is still growing them... Love it!!
finally I can join you ladies over here! :) Hope you are all doing well.
Pandora is now 5 days old, and we're doing pretty good.. still getting the hang of things, breastfeeding in particular. My nipples are really sore, and it always takes a while for us to get a good latch going every feed. I have kind of a love-hate relationship with breastfeeding at the moment.. sometimes I can't stand it because my nipples hurt so bad, and other times I just adore it. We're slowly getting better at it! Everything else is going quite well.. Panda is a very calm baby who doesn't cry very often, and she's surprised us by sleeping for 5 hours at a time the last two nights. She's also apparently got really strong neck muscles - already she's lifting her head up off the floor during tummy time :)
Just before we left hospital on Sunday we found out that Pandora has a dislocating hip (it dislocates when her leg is straight). Yesterday we had to get a brace put on her little legs, which she needs to wear for at least 6 weeks. :( We're not allowed to take it off - she needs to be sponge bathed and some of her smaller clothes won't fit over the brace, but really I think it's more distressing for me & David seeing her in it than it is for Panda to wear it.
Here's a pic of her in the brace that I took yesterday ~
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v367/jeski/pandora/panbrace.jpg
Random Question Of The Week: Has anyone started to do anything about loosing the excess baby skin/fat?
I don't think I'll be worrying about that for awhile.. I want to heal completely from the birth before I even attempt to do any kind of exercise, and I'm having far too much fun enjoying all the sugary foods I couldn't eat during pregnancy due to my GD :p
Morning everyone  - we had a yuck night last night with 1.5 - 2hrly feeds the whole night through  . We haven't had one of those for a while and it has really knocked me. At 4am I nearly fell off the bed because I nodded off while feeding! Urgh.
Miss Ani - hope those good nights keep up for you! I'm jealous. We had a good one the night before last, but she must be going through a growth spurt now because she is so hungry all the time! Little piggy!
Charlis_mum - My 91 year old Nan had a stroke last week, but still managed to say "make sure you get rid of that fat roll, dear!" to me from her hospy bed! Couldn't believe it... my dear old nan being critically ill, and STILL managing to have a crack at me about my paunchy bits! God bless her... :D
Jacks Mum - wow - what a huge sleep for your little 'un! I can imagine that you would be up checking on him, I would be too! I'm a nut for checking on Asha, I listen for her breathing when I don't even realise that I'm doing it. It must have been soooo nice to not have to get boosies out in the middle of the night though. Bliss!
Mum2Bubba - great attitude about your body image! That's excellent. I must take a leaf from your book instead of listening to my Nana! LOL.
PL - welcome to the flip side! So glad to have you here with us, and I'm happy all is going well with your beautiful little family. And thanks for mentioning pelvic floor - each time I read the words I remember to do them, but am SLACK the rest of the time. Will have to put stick-it notes around the house I think!
Jeski - welcome to you too, and sorry to hear about Panda's hip probs. But as you say, it is probably more distressing for you and DH than it is for her, and it will help in the long run :hugs: . And hang in there with the BF-ing, the nipple soreness does go away (or ease up) pretty quickly, but if it persists get someone to check your attachment. Practice makes perfect and bubbas love boobie juice soooo much!
Kristy - how's everything with you? Ebbie is soooo cute, and such a smile!
Gross question coming up - has anyone else had night sweats since having bubs? When Asha wakes me for a feed often I realise that I am wet with sweat on the back of my neck and chest. So yuck!!!!!!! Apparently it is quite common, but it is so horrible..............

Hi girls, sorry that I am not posting much but by the time I get to read there is no time to post.
Marlie - Those yucky nights can really take it out of you can't they. :fingerscrossed: for a better night for you tonight. And I haven't had any night sweats that I know of.
Jeski - I agree, those painful nips will eventually be painfree or at least less painful. Keep perservereing (sp?) as I am sure that Panda loves the boobie. Also sending big :hugs: your way re Panda's hip. I am sure that she will come out of the brace fine and will be a happy and healthy little girl.
As for me, Jet has been developing his own little routine which I am pretty happy to work around. Wake at 8am, have a feed and play, back to sleep by 10am, this routine continues until about 6pm when we give him a bath and another feed. Sometime between 8pm and 10pm he will go to sleep until about 1am or 2am when he wants another feed and then back asleep until 8am. Then it all starts again.
I am a little worried though. He is slowly gaining some weight but he is still very thin and last night when I was bathing him I noticed that his ribs really protrude sometimes. I am worried that I am not giving him enough from my boobie and am contemplating giving formula as a top up.
Sorry if I have missed anything or anyone else and I will try and get in here a bit more often.

good morning all!
PL - i was meaning to ask, are you doing the full-time cloth nappy thing with Jedd yet? we have lily in hemp/cotton prefolds during the day with bummi covers and it's working a treat! night time i'm still doing disposables at the moment as DP does most of her night time changes, and he finds it easier... but i'm working on him!
jeski - poor little panda! at least the brace is only temporary.
marlie - i get those horrid night-sweats. i had to change in the middle of the night at one point because i'd sweated right through my pjs. yuck!
qldmummy - we've sort of got a routine starting... lily is like clockwork waking up between 7-6am for a feed... and then having a nap from about 9 - 11.
as for the BF'ing mummies... hang in there!! my nips were sore for a while, but they're improving substantially! (except for yesterday, when lily grabbed my nipple with her little claws in a ravenous fit!! OMG!!! i almost screamed!)
we had a less than perfect night again last night... but not bad. i think lily is a little upset because of the antibiotics - she's pretty clingy with me at the moment. we've noticed another little 'spot' on her infected thumb, but hopefully it'll clear in the next few days.
anyone else going to take advantage of target's big sale at the moment? i want to buy a few more little toys for lily, as she's becoming more interested in 'playing'.
RQOTD: if you have them, how have your furkids reacted to the new arrival?
our cat, charlie, was really wary at first. she was all low, and slinking around. she's a lot more adventurous now, and gets up close when i'm feeding or DP is nursing lily... sniffs her head... but if lily makes a sudden noise, charlie takes off!! charlie is fascinated by lily's baby rocker and sits IN it, playing with the toys on the toy bar!! she has also taken a liking to lily's dummy, and ran off with it the other day!!! i think we might have to buy her one of her own!

A quick question (probably TMI)
Has anyone had a uterine prolapse. I think I do.
Yesterday was my first day without DH and the only day I had to go out. This may sound confusing but you'll understand at the end...hopefully.
We have a 3 door festiva which is really easy to put the capsule in and out of the boot, because we are both quite tall. So yesterday I had to put the capsule in and out 10 times and did a little bit of walking.
Last night I had the sorest back and stomach, but also felt like my insides were gong to fall out. I had this with Jack but thought it was just the pressure on my stitches from standing too long, thinking it was just the strain of lifting the capsule because I haven't lifted anything for almost my entire pregnancy (except DS1). This morning after a shower I dried my stitches and checked them with a mirror and to my horror it looks like my insides are falling out. They are not out of my ginny but just inside and you it looks like they are blocking up the hole. Sorry if this sounds gross.
I then realized that but lifting yesterday I was straining and then realized what must have happened.
I just had a huge cry when I googled it because I was doing so well and now I feel my body had failed me by having this happen. I didn't see anyone about it with Jack and everything went back to normal as far as I know so not sure whether to leave it again and continue doing Pelvic floor exercises or to see a Dr.
If anyone else has experienced this is would be great to hear from you.
Sorry it's so long and all about me.

Gross question coming up - has anyone else had night sweats since having bubs? When Asha wakes me for a feed often I realise that I am wet with sweat on the back of my neck and chest. So yuck!!!!!!! Apparently it is quite common, but it is so horrible..............
Is THAT what it is!! I had this for the first time last night - I thought that I was just hot, but then realised that I was covered in sweat! Soooo ewwy LOL
My nipples are really sore, and it always takes a while for us to get a good latch going every feed. I have kind of a love-hate relationship with breastfeeding at the moment.. sometimes I can't stand it because my nipples hurt so bad, and other times I just adore it. We're slowly getting better at it!
Panda is just gorgeous!!! It must be difficult with the brace - but its only 6 weeks, right?? I am having the same love/hate relationship with breastfeeding right now. I called ABA about my bleeding, cracked nipples and they recommended squeezing some of the creamy hindmilk onto them at the end of each feed and trying to let them air out too. So after feeding Jedd I whip out the bazookas, express some milk and sit there with it all hanging out for about 15 mins  Its definitely helped heal them up - but the pain is still there. I'm told that it gets better at about 4-6 weeks - so am trying to hold out til then!
WOW - I am SOOO jealous! What a fantastic routine to be in! I wouldn't be too worried about his slow weight gain - all bubs gain weight differently; so long as he is having a full feed every feed. Have you asked your CHN about it?
PL - i was meaning to ask, are you doing the full-time cloth nappy thing with Jedd yet? we have lily in hemp/cotton prefolds during the day with bummi covers and it's working a treat! night time i'm still doing disposables at the moment as DP does most of her night time changes, and he finds it easier... but i'm working on him!
I had originally bought Eenee Weenee's for Jedd's first few weeks at home - but his butt was too big for them!! All my MCN's are a lil high at the front, and after using a couple I noticed that they were rubbing on his umbilical cord stump. So we're using biodegradable sposies until the cord falls off and heals, and then will switch over to cloth full time.
We had a pretty good night last night - 4 and a half hours of sleep straight!! And then 4hrs of wakefulness (eyes wide open, lets look around and not sleep kind of thing lol) and then another 3hrs of sleep - so all in all I dont have too much to complain about. Jedd is napping in his sling on my chest right now which is fantastic. Today I've been able to get the dishes and washing done for the first time since the c/sect - and my steristrips can come off later on today as well. How exciting!!!
Oh - and we're off to our first mothers group tomorrow. Its just with the girls from my church, so not really a 'proper' mothers group - but it'll be the first time that I get to show him off to a group of cooing women LOL

Wow - there is such a lot to catch up on...I'll see how I go!
PL - At first my nipples were causing me excruitiating pain, but they have really settled now and I love breastfeeding. I tried a few different holds when breastfeeding and found that the "football hold" worked well while my nipples were sore. I also used Lansinoh which eased the pain a lot, and now as I said - I really love feeding. Tehya is also very good at latching on - so I think I am lucky.
As for the baby weight - I've dropped almost all of the 16kgs already. I'm not too stressed about the excess skin as its not that bad...but Tehya and I are going for walks every day and I'm also doing the Pelvic Floor excersises. I think - whatever will be will be....
Tehya really loves going for walks in her pram and is generally sound asleep within the first 10 mins. If not asleep - she is very calm.
Miss Ani - Tehya also had an excellent night on Tuesday. She had a feed at around 9.45pm and then slept until 2am. She went to sleep right after her feed and didn't make a peep until 7am. I was SO happy. I can't tell you how nice it was to be up and showered and having down some housework by 9am!
But then last night the cheeky little lass was awake at 2:10am for her feed and didn't go down until after 4am - before waking at 6.50am for another feed! Finally she is sleeping so I am trying to get onto BH and do some housework! I think I just have to take the good with the bad nights. We will eventually work out a routine that works....:fingerscrossed:
Mum2bubba - I feel a bit the same way about my body. I felt horrible during the pregnancy due to a lot of fluid retention and I feel really great now. I love that the soft belly comes from me having Tehya - it makes me smile. My DH says he likes the softness of the tummy - but who knows if he is saying that just to make me feel good. Either way - I'm so proud about my little girl that I don't mind the changes to my body!
Jeski - sorry to hear about Pandora's hip. At least you know that the brace is there to make her better - though I know it would still be hard to see her in it. :hugs: for you.
Marlie - night sweats! Oh my goodness yes! Its so yuck! I thought it was just me! I literally wake up dripping - I suppose it will go awake eventually - I hope so anyway? I wonder how long it will last.
Qldmummy - have you seen your maternal child health nurse? What do they say about the weight? I'm not sure if it is the same in QLD, but my MCH Centre has an open session every week that you can go and weigh your bubba and talk to the nurse etc. Maybe you could do that and see what advice she gives? They told me yesterday that some babies hit a plateau for a while if they have gained a lot of weight at the start.
As for the next RQOTW about the 'furkids' - my dogs have been VERY curious, mainly the female one. She is very jumpy and wants to smell us the whole time. We try to take Tehya outside everyday so they get used to her...but we are just taking it slowly at the moment. I know she will eventually calm down - and she is already aware that Tehya is above them in "pack status". I think it will just take a bit of time.
Jacks Mum - my sister had her little girl 9 weeks ago and she found out that she had a prolapsed vagina. It wasn't a full prolapse but still - she described the same thing about seeing her insides "hanging out". Apparently at least 2 in 10 women get it after childbirth. She is going to a physio for it and unfortunately it doesn't go away - you eventually have to have surgery to make it COMPLETELY gone (though it is also helped A LOT by excercise and physio apparently) but they say not to do that until you are finished having kids.
As for me - things are still pretty good. The night feeding is proving to be a challenge as Tehya likes to play at 2am...but I just try to nap a bit if I can during the day.
We had an appointment with the MCH Nurse yesterday and Tehya has put on another 205g in a week - and is doing really well! She now weighs 4.305kgs and is 55cm long. Appparently she is in the 90th percentile for length and weight - looks like she will be tall! :) I'm loving being at home with her and she is changing so much! She is very alert when awake - and has a great personality already!
I have to say though - I do find it hard to get everything done at home if she doesn't sleep. I have about 3 loads of washing piled up, the dishes to be done, paper work to file, thank you cards to write and I eventually want to start filling in her baby book! he he he, time management is totally different at home with a baby than it is at work!
Hope you are all doing well. And to anyone I have missed - sorry!

Jacks Mum, Sounds like you need to see a dr, I hope everything is ok, is uterine prolapse dangerous, it doesn't sound good :hugs:
Hi PL!!!!! Long time no see!!!
RQOTD: if you have them, how have your furkids reacted to the new arrival?
Well our cats have started ****ing everywhere mostly wherever the baby has been so they have been booted outside now, won't tolerate that!
I am so glad some of the other mummies can sympathise with the night sweats! (I know it's terrible to say, but misery DOES love company!)... :o
For those that are getting them, apparently it is hormonal and the mini-pill can calm it down, so I might end up asking my dr about this if it persists over the next few weeks. As for when it stops naturally, some people get it for a few weeks/months, and others for years (eek!). But by and large it stops when BF-ing stops... fingers crossed before then!!!!!!!!!
Jacks Mum - it's odd that you posted this because I felt like my insides were falling out yesterday after I had been for a huge walk up a large hill pushing Asha. I have been doing my pelvic floor exercises more today I can tell you! I'm still quite ouchy down there (after 3 weeks!), so I hope I am healing OK. Too scared to look with a mirror! I'm going to google some exercises to do so I'll let you know if I find anything! I hope things settle down for you... :fingerscrossed:
Furbabies? - Well Floyd our dog thinks Asha is great! He comes up and sniffs her and wags his tail like crazy at her. The only problem is that he thinks her tummy-time cushion is now his, so everytime I turn around he is sitting in it with his ball! Quite cute really. The cat just ignores her the for greater part, except that she eyes off the bassinet for sleeping on a regular basis... :devil6:

:smiliedance: I found you all!!!
Ok i have caught up on a few posts!
Night sweats - I thought it was just me s i have a cold and didn't really think about it!! Maybe it is fromm having Matty??
Well, Matty has been doing really well. He sleeps for about 3hrs between feeds during the day and at night his last feed is about 8 or so and he sleeps til about 2 then is up for another feed at 5 and then starts his 3hourly feeds again for the day.
He gave me my first smiles today!! One had a little "gaa" with it!! at first i thought it might have just been wind and i was just imagining it!! But he did it another 3 times after we got home from the shopping!!
Sorry this is such a me post, but now i know where you are all hiding i'll try to catch you all soon! and keep up with the personals!!

OHH quick question!!
What is everyone using for contraception?? I'm thinking i'm nearly ready to get back to it:laughing: , but i'm scared of getting pregnant again, as this is our last bub! So was just wondering what everyone else is using?
I have been on the mini pill with Alex, but don't really like it and i know i won't remember to take it! Does anyone have any experience with the implant??
Thanks Nic
Hi Nic - glad you found us!
I'm gonna ask about the mini-pill at my 6 week check. DH said that we can just use condoms "for the few times we'll get around to doing it" :o , but even using condoms once anymore is once too often. Don't get me wrong, I am all for safe-sex... but now that I'm married I can admit that I hate the horrid, smelly, wrinkly things! (that's condoms I'm talking about, not penises! )
I'm not keen on the idea of an implant - my niece got it and had shocking mood swings. If you do get it done, make sure you go to someone with experience at putting it in, as they can be a little tricky.
I missed out on my nap today. And I'm meant to be cooking dinner at the mo, but nah... I think I'll let the local Thai restaurant do the cooking tonight.... Am I lazy or what!?!
See ya tomorrow Gals!

Hey Marlie,
I know what ou mean about condoms!! Once you're married i reckon you shouldn't have to use them!! :barf:
I have heard some bad things about the implant and that some women put on heaps of weight! So not really sure on that!
I'm meant to be cooking too but the chinese shop will be doing that now! lol
Have a good night!
Nic
Hi all!!! Geez, I have 1 day off & it takes me a couple of hours to catch up & read posts (that's in between an unsettled baby & trying to do 1000 loads of washing!!!).
Kristy - We havn't gotten to the 8 week mark yet... not looking forward to it (the needles). Hoping that DH can have a roster day so he can be the 'Bad guy' & take him. I've kicked our cat out too... gotta hate trying to get rid of the smell of cats pee .
Ellefreya - Hi & welcome!!! My DS love going in the pram too. You could always try pushing bubs around the house & parking it in the corner during the day for sleep time if nothing else works.
Pipsii - Hi!!! My MHCN has told me I need to start waking DS for feeds as he hasn't gained weight. With a 'dream-feed' I think you don't actually wake them, I think they just start to suck whilst asleep (or very drowsy?)... I don't know exactly, we're going to start tonight.
PL - My DS is a HUGE comfort sucking fan... we gave in & gave him a dummy for night time sleep... now I'm worried about the darn thing falling out!!!
Tan - In answer to your random question... No, I havn't done anything about my excess flab (& believe me, I've got some). I think I've actually put more on since I've given birth than whilst pregnant!!! I'm thinking about joining a gym again.
Marlie - I hope your nan gets better. Sending you & Nan a big :hugs:. I'm still craving chocolate too.
Anita - My DS has the 'I love boobies' hat.
Jeski - Hi!!! Pandora is absolutely gorgeous!!!
Jacks mum - DS started to 'sleep-thru' last week... from about 8pm to 5am. The MHCN has told me to wake him as he hasn't gained weight... seems a shame dosn't it?
Lejay - my DH says he loves my new flabby tummy too... I sort of think he's just saying it to make me feel better???
Alex&laurensmum - My DS has been smiling too... great isn't it? Not sure how to answer the mini-pill dilema... I was thinking of charting & using OPK's, so it's not such a drama when we TTC again.
Any thoughts anyone??? What do you think about charting & using ovulation predictor kits as contraception?
Random question re: pets answer... our deliquent 7 month old dog (doberman) jumped up last week & grabbed DS's foot with his mouth  ... luckily his bootie was loose & that's all he grabbed. DH has been taking him outside with him so stupid (the dog, not his real name HAHAHA) can learn he's a part of the family. I'd rather get rid of the dog.
:ecomcity: Sorry for the long post... I'll try to catch up a bit sooner.
Whilst I was typing my looooong post, I missed the convo re contraception... I had just added somthing about that towards the end...
I agree about not using condoms whilst married, but DH has offered to use them... what a catch Valentine.

LOL about the condoms!!!
I had the implant for 2 and a half years and had no problems with it. Well - thats if you dont count the initial 6 months of spotting - but then nothing for the next 2 years. I loved it!
I think I heard/read somewhere that you cant have the implant if your bf'ing though. I think the mini-pill or condoms are pretty much the only option when it comes to contraception whilst bf'ing.
I'm not looking forward to tonight. Jedd has been sleeping ALL DAY and has only had 4 feeds today - so I'm guessing that tonight we're going to have a shocker of a night. Fingers crossed it doesn't go too badly :fingerscrossed:
Bexta - Ohhh I'm glad I'm not the only 'horrible mummy' who gave in and bought a dummy!
Alex&LaurensMum - That is so sweet about the smile! And even CUTER about the 'gaa'!!! Your heart must have just melted... I cant WAIT for our first smile - what a beautiful moment. I've had a couple so far - but they were definitely wind LOL.
Is anyone else having baby gazes? When Jedd has his eyes open, which seems to be more and more lately, we've had a few gazes which are just awesome!
OHH quick question!!
What is everyone using for contraception??
Thanks Nic
I started on the mini pill (Microval - which is progesterone only) a week after I had Isaac. My GP recommended it while I was breastfeeding as it is the safest to take.
Random Question Of The Week: Has anyone started to do anything about loosing the excess baby skin/fat?
Slowly but surely:) . I put on 28kg and have lost around 15kg (10kg in the first week). 13kg to go. I figure it took 9 months to put on the weight so 9 months to take it back off!!
Eating well and walking with the pram for 30 minutes each day works wonders!

Eating well and walking with the pram for 30 minutes each day works wonders!
I love it!! I'm gonna start saying the 9 month thing too!!
Well I'm finally caught up on all the posts from the last few days, gee you ladies can talk. With DH home I am too busy to get on here enough to keep up to date.
Contraception - I have a referral for a Mirena IUD to be "installed" in 6 weeks time. I was wary at first but having had bad experiences with implanon and Depoprovera injections, and a hopeless memory when it comes to the pill I figured it was my best choice. Apparently it's more effective than having your tubes tied and lasts for 5 years. We've decided that we'll stop now we have our 2 princesses but don't want to take the definite step of DH "getting the snip" just in case.
B/Feeding - OMG my nip-lays are finally getting the hang of it! Because I am cursed with big boobies (Gcup) and flat nipples the size of freakin' plates we had a lot of trouble with them slipping out of the mouth, etc. Lately the cold weather has been my friend IYKWIM giving chubba bubba something to latch on to. There's still the 10 seconds of cross-eyed agony at first but it's definitely getting better.
Weight - I weighed Ebs today and she's crossed the 5 kilo mark. She's put on about 400g in 9 days - which covers the 200g she lost at hospital and then some extra. She's now 5.1kg at 12 days old. I'm still coming to terms with how big she is!!!
Just a question - is anyone else itchy on their tummy? I have this constant itching around my stomach and sometimes on my boobs, kinda like when I had the epidural. It's driving me insane cause I don't want to scratch in case it makes my stretchies worse (cause they've already faded so much).
OK I think I've taken up enough room now. Hugs to you all and kisses to your munchkins!!
Love
Donna

OMG - pages & pages to catch up on. :ecomcity:
I have to be quick as i just heard DD chatting, so she'll be wanting breakfast soon, i'll try & remember what i can, but can't remember who said what - sorry.
Contraception - I had the implant after DD, was a terriblt biatch with major mood swings, had it removed after 6months. Just filled a script for the mini-pill
Breastfeeding - I have been lazy and Nick attached badly the other night (i was sorta half asleep on the couch & didn't notice) so had a really sore nipple for a day or so - much better now though. He attaches almost perfectly on his own now, just have to wave it near his mouth - lol, but must remember not to get too complaicant about it when we are both tired.
Growth - the WHO have released different growth charts for b/f babies - they put on weight slower, so don't be overly concerned if bubs seems slow by the charts int he blue book. There have also been articles where they say CHN are scared of litigation etc, so often tell mums to top up with formula when they don't need to, so give bubs & you some credit & time before top-ups if you want to exclusively b/f
prolaplse - a friend had one - partial with her first 9lb 10oz bub & full with her 9lb 15oz bub. Had to do exercises, and will have surgery later int he year, but this is after having a partial prolapse again after bubs 3 & 4, which had to be c-sec delivery so she didn't totall destroy down there. Even pregnancy mad her prolapse the last 2 times, so def be careful with lifting etc & go back to see you OB/GYN.
fur babies - have been neglected (poor babies) since DD was born, but she is old enough to throw the ball to them now, so that keeps them very happy. Don't think they have really noticed DS that much (2 x outside cattle/kelpie x)
dummy - guilty here!! Panicked the other day when i lost the only one we have (well DH lost it:mad: ) Have 2 new ones now! DD still has hers at 2 :o whoops. lol. I call them 'noise plugs' as they sure stop the noise.
night sweats - not any more, but i do remember waking heaps in those first few weeks really hot having thrown the blankets off. I thought it was just warm witht he heater on for Nick. But looking back now, i was sweating a bit too. I have the heater on the same wetting and it doesn't happen now - so i guess it does go away.
DS is smiling now too!! Big grins when he just starts a feed, and then sometimes when we are playing - I love it!!!
Sleep - Nick has had a few nights of feeding at 8:30 then not waking until 4:30! I tried stretching the last feed out until 9:30, so he would sleep until 5:30, but that backfired as he woke at 1am, then 3:30am! I think i'll jsut take his lead for now, and be grateful i am getting as much sleep as i am.
ummm that's all i can remember for now!! Got a busy day so gotta go. Take care!!
miss ani

wow!! it's like old times in here... we're all chatty!! :D
i thought i'd quickly type up a post while i have 2 free hands!!
with contraception, i am going back on the mini-pill (microlut). i used to suffer severe migraines, and my neurologist pulled me off of oestrogen pill as it can cause brain haemorrages (sp?) so that also leaves the implant out. plus i'm BF'ing anyway, so minipill is the only way to go. i'll have my OB write me a prescription when i go for my 6 week check up.
last night wasn't great. we started off okay with DP giving lily a nice relaxing bath. i fed her and put her down.... went and had a nice relaxing shower and settled into bed for the night. not less than 1/2 hour later at about midnight, she was awake and screeching. this happened
all night with part of the reason being she would only take one side when i fed her and refuse to take the other side. so she'd wake up earlier and scream the house down. i finally got a full hours sleep between 6-7am.
i've had lily in the mei tai most of the morning as she's still grizzling. i am thinking it's the antibiotics making her fussy.
re the prolapsed uterus: a friend of mine had this. she'd had 5 kids, and ended up having a full hysterectomy - but i believe hers was a pretty severe case.
PL - i love those baby gazes!!! they bring tears to my eyes!!!

Wow I thought these night sweats were just me! I can be freezing cold and I wake up sooooo soggy from it :o
Contraception - nothing yet...
Everyone's bubs sound to be doing well!!!
Eb has her needles week or week after :crying:
This thread is definitely busy!
Bexta - Fortunately my little man is gaining weight, he's still a tiny thing though. Just need to change him from sleeping all day and waking every 2 hours at night to sleeping at night and waking during the day. I've tried topping him up before we go to bed with dream feeds, but he won't take at all when he's even a little bit drowsy.
Jeski - I had a terrible start with the breastfeeding too, was almost in tears every time I had to feed Kai in the first few days and had big blood blisters under my nips. My partner felt so bad for me he bought a pump :-) I spent maybe 30 hours pumping instead of feeding and use lansinoh cream and they healed in no time. We still have some trouble attaching, but we're getting the hang of it. Stick with it'!
miss ani - our furkid is not impressed at all. I think she believes Kai is another pet that is taking all her attention. She almost sat on the bub the minute we walked in the door.
http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=8829&l=f10b9&id=584375349
Now she sits and watches him while he sleeps and sucks up to every visitor that walks through the door she's craving attention so much - she used to hide in the linen cupboard!
As for the weight - I didn't weigh myself the whole time I was pregnant, I didn't want to know!! I had GDM though, so in the last 10 weeks had to be extra careful about what I ate - I think I might have lost some weight on that diet! When I came home from hospital I was only 4kg heavier than when I found out I was pregnant. We're just going for walks every couple of days and doing pelvic floor and the excercises to bring the muscles back together for now - and probably enjoying sugar so much that I'll gain weight now instead ;)

Oh Anita, I feel your pain! last night we had a terrible night. Tehya was grizzly all aftenoon and wouldn't settle. She then started to scream for about an hour and a half so I fed her at around 9pm. She slept until 11.30pm and wouldn't go down until 1am. Then she woke up for her regular 2am feed and didn't go down again till 4am. Woke again at 6.30am and didn't sleep until 2pm today! Eeek....I feel as though my eyes are popping out of my head!
I wonder if it has anything to do with the Tim Tams I indulged in yesterday? Maybe too much sugar!?
As for the dummy - I also caved in. But Tehya is a big comfort sucker....so I don't mind.
Also, I love the gazes I get fom Tehya. She knows me and turns towards me which I adore! He he he.
I'm not going on the pill - just using the dreaded conies. As I have PCOS and Endometriosis....It takes ages to regulate my periods (if ever) when coming off the pill..... so until we decide when we want to try for another bub....I'm just going to avoid taking anything....
Thanks!! We dont think we could do better if we bought one'.

Hi everyone!!!
Love the pics pipsii... Kai is a real cutie.
Just like Miss ani & lejay, we too had a really terrible night... he slept from 12 to 2 but was pretty much unsettled & occasionally screaming until 6am when I put him into bed on the boob with me. Would have thought he'd be tired & sleep really well today... NO SUCH LUCK!!!
Hope everyone & all bubbas are doing well. How's the weather where you all are? It's shocking here in Newcastle!!!

Hi everyone.
Sorry but there have been so many posts I'm struggling to keep up.
Sam went to the Peditrtion on Monday and got the all clear he doesn't want to see him again and he is off the iron supplement too. He's started to really cry now when he wakes for his feeds and if I put him down he screams the house down. I have to remember that he is the equivalent of a newborn even though he is 8 weeks old now. His routine is 4 hourly feeds except at night when he will either sleep for 6 hours or sleeps in when its early morning feed time. It's hard to get a routine and when I'm trying to get the older boys to school i could do with it. Oh well he'll get there.
I went to the u/s and had my bloodtests and they haven't left anything behind after the c/s it looks like I've still got a slight infection and that's why I'm still bleeding. On antibiotics again hopefully that will clear it.
Contraception I'm on the pill again I'm not breastfeeding so it's okay.
We had a bad night last night after Sams 10pm feed it took 2.5 hours to get him to settle and go to sleep he then woke after 2 hours for his next feed and it took another 2 hours to settle him I don't know what was wrong but he's been fine all day and slept most of it so I'm probably in for a bad night again tonight.
Anyway bye for now.
Michelle

aww too cute Bexta!
Aahh he is beautiful Bexta.
Thanks Sara & Fozzie... I'm pretty wrapped in him!!!
Hi all, brrrrr it's COLD! Such a windy day today that I haven't even ventured outside once... so slack.
Bexta - WOW, so cute! Gotta love that gummy smile... :) I just watched the news on Newcie (my DH came from there, and BIL/SIL live there)... it looks shocking!
Fozzie - glad to hear all went well with U/S, and hopefully the bleeding clears up quickly with the antibiotics.
Kas-Chat - good to have you pop in! I was following your posts right up until when you had bubs. So glad all is well! I know what you mean about time and energy though - it is amazing to me how much having a newborn can zap your reserves.
Babygirl - Wow, you lucky thing with getting a good sleeper for a bubs. Asha has no idea what 4hrs sleep at a time means, let alone 7hrs at a stretch! Glad to hear the bonus came in for you - I'm still waiting for mine
Lejay - I'm sure it wasn't the tim-tams... it couldn't possibly be! How could something soooo nice cause so much drama?! Impossible, I say! :D Hopefully you have a better night tonight...
Pipsii - I agree, Kai is so adorable and if they did sell ones just like him, the stores would run out in no time! Too cute.
And Howdy to Kristy, Tan, Donna, Anita, Twitch (where are you Twitch?), and the other May mums  . Just waiting for Ann (congrats BTW!) and Belinda to show up now!

Another bad night last night - Tehya was awake for her 2am feed and then didn't go down (and was crying lots!) till 4.30am before waking at 5.30am grizzling for another feed. She has slept well today but I am nervous about another sleepless night. I'm exhausted.
Question to all:
Are you setting a routine for evenings/night re: bathtime, feeding, bedtime etc? If so, what are you doing? I need advise!

Question to all:
Are you setting a routine for evenings/night re: bathtime, feeding, bedtime etc? If so, what are you doing? I need advise!
Yes, I have a night routine for Skye:
7pm bath (not every night though)
7:15pm bottle
7.30-8pm bed (in bed latest at 8:30pm)
10:30-11pm dream feed (though sometimes she wakes up anyway)
some nights she sleeps through til morning (about 7:30-8am or there abouts) but alot of the time she wakes for another feed at around 3 or 4am.
Sometimes she gets unsettled like last night she was in bed at 8pm then had another feed at about 11.30pm but was unsettled after that and didn't get to sleep properley until 1.30am but I got a sleep in coz she woke at 4.30 for another feed (though she only had about 40 mls of milk and went back to sleep until 10 this morning).
As for her day routine she is feeding about every 3 to 4 hours so I am just going to let her set the pace at first and work around that.

Another bad night last night - Tehya was awake for her 2am feed and then didn't go down (and was crying lots!) till 4.30am before waking at 5.30am grizzling for another feed. She has slept well today but I am nervous about another sleepless night. I'm exhausted.

Aww lejay - that sounds identical to my night :( Here is to some sleep tonight :hugs:
We dont have a proper routine yet, but I usually feed one boob, nappy change to wake him up from his milk-drunk state lol, and then finish the feed. Sometimes it works well, other times it doesnt.

Bexta he is just gorgeous! Such a big smile too, i am jealous. I hope you are coming tot he next newie meet so i can see you both IRL. Hopefully there will still be some nice dry places to go after the last few days!!
Question to all:
Are you setting a routine for evenings/night re: bathtime, feeding, bedtime etc? If so, what are you doing? I need advise!
We haven't got too much of a solid daily routine ATM - but there seems to be a 48hr routine - 1 day good, the other day bad. lol.
He usually has a feed at around 4:30-5:30, then we have dinner with DD after that.
6:30 sometimes a bath, or he will have cuddles/reading books with DD until she goes to bed at 7:30, sometimes he will sleep then for a few hours until about 8:30-9:30.
8:30/9:30 feed again - usually a good one for an hour or so.
9:30/10:30 - bed.
On a good night he'll sleep until 4:30am, other nights he'll be awake at 2:30.
I haven't tried the dreamfeed yet, i don't think it will work just yet. I was at the shops having lunch the other day and wanted him to feed so i could do the groceries without interuption, i took him out of the sling, tickled him, put cold water on his cheeks etc Even jsut stuck the boob in his mouth and he just wouldn't suck. I'll wait a bit before i try the dream feed. We won't worry about daily bathing unitl after winter and he is crawling about the place a bit. Until then, it's every other day.

hi everyone!!
bexta - what a gorgeous bub and such a gummy smile! :D
lejay - we sort of have a routine with lily... but it's hard with feeding as she is BF'ing on demand and i don't like to dictate too much when she should be feeding. just remember that if a baby has formula before they go to sleep they will sleep longer as it takes longer to digest than breastmilk. i'm getting into the swing of night-feeding now... it gets frustrating though when she won't settle AFTER a feed though, although as i've said before, her antibiotics would be part of the problem at the moment.
i've been at my parent's place today which was lovely, as my mum watched lily for a good hour-and-a-half while i had a nap!! bliss!! i feel soo much better now! mum is just making me a big pot of potato and leek soup, and a rhubarb roly-poly for me to take home for dinner. i love my mummy!!! :hugs:
and where is twitch?? i might sms her tonight and check all is okay!

Hi Ladies,
I'm new to the May thread.
My DS (no.2) was born on the 28th of May. So i thought i'd come and join you all.
Although he is only just 2 weeks old, we have a basic routine. I feed him every 3 hrs. He has a feed and then wake time and then sleep time- for all feeds from 7am till 7pm. Night feeds he goes straight back to sleep. In a few weeks i will start stretching out his night feeds - boy am i looking forward to this.
Anyone else have other chn? I'm finding things are a little more difficult with a 2nd child around. Anyone have any helpful advice? I'm still trying to figure out what to do with DS1 while i'm BF DS2. The feed can take up to an 1 hr at the moment.... so i've been putting DS1 in the playpen with a video- Wiggles or Bannanas.
Dreamfeeds are fantastic. I did dream feeds with DS1 till he was about 5 months old i think.
Does anyone's bub wake in their sleep after 45 mins and do a scream and then go back to sleep? Nahum has been doing that for the last little while, on and off. He always resettles, i never go into his room. Just wondering whether i should be worried that there is something wrong....well...that it could be reflux?
Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Hugs :hugs: to everyone that had a bad night last night.... I will be in that too lol
Jacob went down with a big feed at 830 and decided to wake at 1030 but i put him back to sleep and he woke at 1230 by 2am he wouldnt settle so ended up in bed with me .... he was very restless and i dont sleep much at all when he is in bed with me.
He was starting to sleep ok at night then bang all of a sudden he is waking at exactly 3 hours but normally settling after but the last few nights it just hasnt happened. He is pretty good normally as he self settles him self at night. I know exactly how everyone feels without sleep.
We were getting into a routine but that has now gone out the window LOL
DS2 used to have a routine at this age and he slept through the night.... i have no idea what i am doing wrong:crying:
He is a huge drinker as well anywhere from 120 ml to 210mls:eek: and its still not helping, he still sometimes only goes 3 hours.
:fingerscrossed: everyone gets a better night sleep tonight
Does anyone's bub wake in their sleep after 45 mins and do a scream and then go back to sleep?
Yes! Many a bottle have I wasted thinking he was ready for a feed only to find when I got to his room that he was still asleep and would sleep another hour or so! :banghead:
Hope you like my new avatar - Isaac's first smile captured on camera! He has been smiling for about 2 weeks but we could never get the camera out in time. :)
Are you setting a routine for evenings/night re: bathtime, feeding, bedtime etc? If so, what are you doing? I need advise! Yes, bath before his 8/9pm feed then I only feed him in his nursery (not in front of the TV like I usually do during the day), not talking to him or exciting him in any way during nappy changes or feeds until his first feed of the morning, around 6/7am.
What a dream sleep I had last night. I fed him at 9.30pm, went to bed, DH fed him at 12.30am. Then he didnt get up to feed until 5.30am!!! My longest sleep in 5 weeks!!!
Isaac was weighed at 5 weeks (yesterday) and he was 5.65kg - it seems quite large! He put on 450g in a week (still not as much weight as when he was breastfeeding - weird!).
Hope the weekend is finding everyone well and not too sleep deprived.
Routine?? What's a routine? LOL
Samuel is not one for routine he will go anything from 3.5 to 5 hours between feeds as long as he gets at least 5 a day i 'm happy because he is putting weight on well. Evenings are hectic here so I tend to bath him in a morning. Our routine is last feed about 10pm or 11pm then striaght to bed. I'll start putting him to bed earlier in another month or so but at the moment he tends to be awake after his 6 or 7pm feed. It will be easier when he is awake a bit more in the day.

just remember that if a baby has formula before they go to sleep they will sleep longer as it takes longer to digest than breastmilk.
This isn't always true - I was told this , so when DD wasn't sleeping through the night i started a formula feed at night and it made no difference at all to her sleeping habits. It will work with some bubbas but not all.
Hi Mrs Little! DS often wakes and cries out in his sleep, but by the time i get to him he is sounds asleep. It's almost as if he is crying in his sleep - it's weird.

For the last 2 nights Skye has been a ratbag, she has been unsettled for some reasons, she has a feed at around 7.30-8pm then I put her to bed and she is fine, then after her dream feed (11pm or there abouts) she has been unsettled and doesn't get to sleep properly until 1.30am (though she did sleep through until 8.30 this morning so I guess thats ok) its just frusterating coz I don't know what to do. Last night I let her cry for about 10 minutes I know its prolly not the best thing but I had had enough so I went on the net andf let her cry for a bit. She is starting to know the difference between day and night so hopefully she will start settling a little better.

Hmm - I wonder if its worth a shot at least? I'd love to get Jedd down for more than 3hrs at a time. Do you think its worth giving it a go? Cant hurt I guess...
Which formula does everyone use? I haven't bothered buying any.

I use SMA cos its one of the cheapest.
When I got Hayley onto formula (she was bf for the first 8 weeks) she started sleeping longer as for Skye well she was on formula at 4 days old so I can't really tell any different. She sleeps about 6 to 8 hours at night though (after her 11pm feed) though at times she can be a little unsettled and not actually get to sleep til about 1am or there abouts. :banghead:
Hi ladies! Thanks for missing me Marlie! It's been so crazy on this house for the past week but I think we're a bit more sorted now.
Had a quick trawl through everyone's posts, hope you are all well and bubs are all happy
Routine? hhmm, no not really! I have also found that if I give Annalise a bottle of formula at night she sleeps for about 5 hours instead of 3 which is great.
Not sure if you remember but the Lactation Consultant told me I had nipple thrush (OMG THE PAIN!) so I took a Diflucan and rubbed Canestan onto my poor nip nips. Anyway, not much improvement so I went to the docs and he said I also had mastitis (OMG MORE PAIN!) Got some antibiotics and I'm on the mend now, thankfully.
Hope everyone is well, I'll jump on the net later and catch up some more!

great to see you back, twitch!! :yelclap: sorry to hear about the mastitis though!! you poor thing... i hope it clears up for you soon!
had a slightly better night last night, we had lily settled by about 4am... and she slept until 8am with no fuss!! woohoo!!! i fed her in bed whilst lying down at one point but i was petrified i'd fall asleep and roll on top of her!
best part of today....
I GOT MY FIRST SMILE!!! i went to check on lily in her moses basket after i had a shower and she had just woken up... i said good morning to her... and she smiled at me!!! i thought it was a fluke, but she did it again - a real gummy smile!! :D i'm the proudest mummy at the moment!!

Pink Lady....... not all babies will sleep longer with a formula feed.
Jacob still wants a 3 hourly feed most days/nights. Some nights he will go 4 or 5 hours but becomes a little unsettled by about 3 and a half hours.
I think i might try one of those dream feeds soon.
For anyone that does the dream feed and is bottlefeeding do you take them out of bed or leave them there?
Thats great Miss Ani..... those first smile are the most heart warming thing:D

Just be wary that if some babies have a bottle too often they can get nipple confusion. Milk comes faster & easier out of a bottle & they grip it with their mouth differently to a boob, so make sure they regularly get boobie too. DD was a pain on the boob once she started having bottles more often. Nick has had a few as we had to top him up with EBM in his first few weeks and no probs with him - he still loves his boobie. They r just all different.
I have a box of S26 sachets in the cupboard for if i need them, you can also get Karicare in individual sachets at the supermarket too. I found these best to start with so you don't waste money on a whole tin if bubs doesn't take to a bottle or the sleeping thing doesn't work. I think you might be able to get samples of others from CHN, esp the ones at chemists, but with all the silly rules regarding advertising etc it might be harder to get now.
miss ani - YAY for the smile!!!
twitch - mastitis owch :hugs:
mum2bubba - sorry Skye has been a ratbag - how old is she now? could it be the 3week or 6week growth spurt?
Nick was very unsettled last night, fed him at 4:30, 6:30 & 9:30, and he was pretty much crying non-stop in between. Didn't get him settled until almost 11pm, but he slept until 4am then, so that was good. He is making up for it today though, fed him at 8:30, slept after that until 11, fed him again and he slept until 3pm, fed him again then and he went straight back to sleep and has been ever since!! I might go and make a bit of noise now so he wakes up for a bit of play and boobie now so he isn't awake all evening again. Typical that he has been sleeping all day though - DH is home and i have been saying how he hasn't slept much during the day lately. :banghead:

Just wanted to say hi all... i haven't been around in awhile... I drop in every few days to read the posts but by the time that I get through them I don't have enough time to reply.
Well I mean this in the nicest way, but I am happy to hear that I am not the only one having trouble settling..... Jayden really suffers from the witching hour ( or should I say witching four hours)... it is so hard to get him to that initial sleep at night...but once he's down ..he's only up every 5-3 hrs which isn't bad.... he just refuses to sleep in the day as well...no matter what I try...and he has been suffering from reflux and wind quite badly lately....
Sorry for the me winge...
Big hugs :hugs: to all of us May mums with our many lil problems

Skye has been smiling and sort of cooing a bit the last few days its so cute, I thought maybe it might be wind but she does it alot so I don't know.
Hope everyone is getting plenty of rest and also plenty of help with the babies and housework.
I can't believe Skye is almost a month old, didn't I just give birth a week ago or something? Sure feels that way (though I feel that way about Hayley sometimes)
Speaking of Hayley, shes been really good with Skye, she helps feed her (she holds the bottle while I hold Skye) she gets nappies for me and right now she is trying to change her doll's nappy.

hey everyone :)
i've been reading but im always feeding when im on lately and dont get a chance to type anything.
aalliyah is growing SO fast lol... i cant wait until she reacts to us with laughter and simles.
i've been getting out for at least an hour a day. i've limited the amount of times im in my PJ's and when i go out i always make sure i look presentable. it helps me feel human!!
i've been breastfeeding aalliyah while still expressing some and topping her up with about 40mls of formula each feed... im trying to get my supply up but its really hard atm... i never seem to have enough time to fill up in between 'snacks'... i let her feed when she's hungry during the day but she always sleeps in solid 4/5 hour blocks during the night... so i dont mind the snacking.
i've been using s26formula but i've found its making her have trouble doing number 2's so i've been giving her a little water and about half a teaspoon of aloe water which helps aid digestion...its all natural so i assume its safe and as soon as she has it she starts passing all her wind and poo's withing an hour and she settles without ANY trouble... so im going to keep giving it to her.:p
other than that she's been a little angel!
hope everyone else is going well...
Dp and i are having a wonderful time... we've been going out to dinner with bubs and cuddling up on weekends... and things are finally back to full force with us lol:p i only waited 6 days intitially but i feel completely healed now so im not scared.... how is everyone else going?
i got a little sad the other night... remembering that i missed her first cry and cuddle... i missed alot... her first 3 hours then another 9 hours till i sdaw her again properly. it normally doesnt bother me but i guess i have to fall sometimes. i just cuddled her for ages and showered her with kisses to make up for it.
ok thats enough for me ladies.. take care. xoxo
Aww babygirl, good on you for showering bubs with kisses now, I'm sorry you feel sad about missing out on those "firsts", plenty of time for cuddles now though. Glad to hear you're going well with the feeding, well done!
Miss Ani, Lily sounds like a terror to settle. We have a few settling issues when she goes down for the night, similar to stephy. Hopefully when they hit the 6 - 8 week mark things improve :fingerscrossed:
We've been getting lots of smiles from Annalise for about a week. I LOOOOOVE that first smile of the day, it makes the midnight and 3am feeds all worth it!
Well I have finally got a bit of time to myself. DH was popping home every now and then throughout the day and it was really starting to p!ss me off :o I appreciate him but it's hard to get sorted when he comes home and bellows in his deep voice, wakes Anna up then goes back to work.
Thanks for the "mastitis hugs" ladies! What a trying time I've had with this bf'ing but it's all coming together now.
Has everyone joined a mothers group? I've met some nice girls through mine which is great  We're having coffee tomorrow. Annalise made a good first impression... During a lull in the conversation she dropped an absolute ripper fart and they all laughed... What a charmer.
have a great day ladies :D

hello from zombie-mummy.
yet another unsettled night with lily. i managed about 1 1/2 hours sleep but the rest of the time i was either feeding or attempting to settle her. the feeding i don't have a problem with... i just wish she'd go down to sleep after the feed!! she'll quite happily sleep in my arms, but there is no chance of getting her to settle in her own bed. the unsettledness has carried over into today as well... she's not happy unless i'm holding her. i got 30 mins of respite though when we went for a walk up to the shop to buy a newspaper. no chance of a nap for mum though. :(
has anyone elses MCN spoken to them about 'wonder weeks' - the weeks where bubs brain goes through major development, usually before a milestone week? my MCN was telling me about them and gave me a chart of when to expect them (week 5 being the first one) and explained that lily may be quite unsettled during that week. i can't help but wonder if she's entered her wonder week a little earlier...
BG - i find i have to get out of the house - even just for a walk - every day. it's nice to get a breath of fresh air!!
steph - :hugs: i can really relate with your unsettledness with jayden... hopefully he improves soon.

i don't have an official mother's group to go to at the moment. i do have a 'goth mummies' get-together in a weeks time, and i'm catching up with some bubhub mums as well.
i need to get myself into the 'settling baby' workshop through our child youth health services in the next week, so hopefully i'll meet some other zombie-mums. :p

 ladies! hope everyone & bubs are having a good day!
I'm having a very cosy moment right now. DH & DD are busy cooking a lamb roast & baked veges foe dinner, I am at the PC with Nick in my arms feeding, lights off & the heater on. I just finished a cappacino & biccies before i sat down. Oh, and Justin Timberlake is on Media Player. :)
BG - good to hear you guys are 'in full force' again - LOL. Let yourself get upset about missing some first moments, it will help you deal with it. I sometimes get teary that my little man was whisked away so fast, i don' really remember much of his first day in this world, i wasn't there for him & couldn't hold him. But we certainly make up for that now. You are a wonderful mummy that is most important!!
mum2bubba - I wish i would get smiles first thing in the morning! Nick doesn't smile heaps while looking at me. He saves them all for DH & DD. I get all mine while he is at the boob & looking me out the corner of his eye.
miss ani - :hugs: that you have been having problems settling Lily.
steph - It os good to know when you are not alone in the not fun parts of parenting, Hope Hayden starts settling well soon.
I am still in a mothers group from when i had DD, we only meet once a month, and it's not often enough. Plus i don't fit in so well with some of them - very different parenting styles. I have been meeting some bubhubbers lately & just loving those meets, so they are the closest to a mothers group!

Twitch - I'm sorry to hear about the mastitis... Big huggies!!!
Miss Ani - Sounds like your having a few sleepin probs with Lilly - I hope for your sake that she gives you a nice long nap soon!!!
Mothers Group - I'm not in a mothers group yet - but I believe when I get to the baby clinic they will probably allocate me to one. But I have heaps going on already! There is a defence play group that I can go to on Thursdays, my church mothers group on Fridays, and every second Tuesday is another play group as well. At least I have plenty to choose from lol.
Formula - I think I'll stick to the boobie juice for now - thanks for the help ladies
Well today we had our first trip to the shops. I was DESPERATE to get out of the house - with all the rain we've had the last week I hadn't actually left the house for 5 days - it was doing my head in!! Oh and the fact that the in-laws were over, rearranged my kitchen and didnt try to help out ONCE probably didn't help. And my left hip/bum area is absolutely KILLING me - I cant walk properly and am waddling like a penguin. I have the flu, and am feeling a bit woe-is-me. Oh - and hubby accidentally dropped Jedd's face in his bathwater this afternoon and left him coughing and spluttering - I just about had a breakdown :(
Okay - thanks for that vent ladies... :o
Hi everyone!!! It's taken me ages to read all the posts. Have had a wonderful time here with no electricity for a couple of days, but couldn't care less about the food in the fridge & freezer... I wanted BubHub!!! HAHAHA!!!
Marlie - it looks pretty bad on TV, but IRL the carnage is terrible here in Newie... it looks like the end of the world & it brings tears to your eyes to see the damage done to peoples property:crying:.
Tan - I'll see you at the meet on the 21st!!!
Camille - Love the av piccy!!!
Lejay - no set routine yet... sorta kinda had one going, but that just flew out the window this week!
Pink Lady - I plopped DD's face in the bathwater which made her splutter & cry when she was a baby (I scared the absolute sh!t out of myself & cried for hours!!!). DH showers with DS & puts his face under the stream & he loves it.
Twitch - oooouch poor nippys. I'm not going to mothers' group... I thought it was only for 1st time Mums. I went to one with DD, but didn't feel I fitted in. I'm going to a BH meet soon & can't wait... also going to try a PAT group near home (parents as teachers).
Anita - Don't those first smiles just melt your heart & make everything worthwhile?
Cassie - Hayley is just too cute for words!!!
Babygirl - Havn't tried aloe water, we use dried camomile flowers seeped in water... it's a Polish thing.
Steph - We have a 4 hour witching period between 4 & 8, it's just awful!!!
Hi & welcome Mrs Little!!!
WOW!!! I got all the personals done!!!
We have had a crazy couple of days... very unsettled unless he's being held (then sometimes screams then too). Waking often over night (have resorted to co-sleeping from 3am:thumbsdown:). He woke up this morning with a very green gunky eye so spent hours waiting to be seen at the medical centre...
Just been a really awful couple of days & the lack of electricity & floods have not made life easier... but we're grateful we & our families/friends are all ok.
:fingerscrossed: this week improves.

Hi Babygirl, DH and I have been having a great time too, Isaac is so 'portable' at this age, we have been going out for coffee nearly every day (and yes making that effort to get out once a day really makes a huge difference!)
As for 'cuddling' on the couch, YAYValentine it really is back to 'full force', and it is so much better, we treasure the moments we get to spend together without being interupted by a certain screaming little man, always at the most crucial moment:laughing: !
Hate to boast, but had another great night, DH fed him at 10pm and he went straight to sleep, I got up at 2.30am and 6.30am and he went straight back to sleep both times (til 9am!!) I had better not speak to soon....... ......the dreaded 6 week growth spurt is coming this week!

PL - :hugs: I have put Nicks face in the bath water a bit too - was looking the other way grabbinag a washer. He spluttered, but is fine - don't feel bad about it, I am sure we are not alone!!
Bexta - I can't remember if you are b/fing or not, but if you are - have you tried some breastmilk in his eye? DD has a blocked tear duct (since birth - hoping it would fix itself by 2 - but not yet) so it gets gunkyeverytime she has a cold. CHN suggested breastmilk, and it always worked much better than drops or saline. Now I have milk again - she has a cold (talk about timing) so expressing some & dropping it in her eye is helping.
I have deliberately been sticking to decaf coffee as caffine has a really strong effect on me & with DD i was pretty sure it decreased my supply temporarily....yesterday when MIL was over DH made cappacinos, but had a sook about amking a separate lot for me, so i said i'd have a normal one to end the sook....big mistake. Nick was really hard to settle at 7:30, woke again at 12:30 - fussed for the whole feed, then again at 5:30 - fussed & cried so much he woke DD & so she has been awake since then!! :banghead: I KNEW i shouldn't have had it. The odd coke or normal coffee is OK - but strong expresso coffee was just too much. I felt really empty too - i'd better start filling up this morning, we have Nicks needles at 11:30, so he is probably going to want a comfort feed. Poor little man. Plus DD will probably be a terror for the day since she we be tired - Men!

hey ladies!
last night started off sooo bad.. aalliyah was in so much pain cause she couldnt poop...and wind.. then I started having chronic pains in my gut so had to get DP to come over... he brought some aloe for little miss and within five minutes she has farted about 15 times and did the biggest poop lol sorry if TMI... then she fell asleep straight away after her feed:smiliedance:
and slept for SEVEN hours!!!! i was so stoked!!! and now she went straight to sleep after this feed too! im so damn lucky.
i have to go to the doctors today to try n see whats wrong with my gut... its the worst damn pain at about 10:30 every night... i have no idea what it is... hope its something simple.:fingerscrossed:
off to go to lunch with a friend n shop! yay me. oooh and im going to buy my cot!
have a good day.:D
It's amazing how much happens in here in a few days - so much to read! Almost every time I even think about typing something Kai starts grizzling and I have to head off.
lejay - We have our nights too, lately they're more unsettled than settled. We haven't got a routine happening at all!
Last night I bathed Kai late, about 9:30 and then lay him in front of the heater and gave him a little massage. Fed him and we went to bed about 11. He woke for a feed around 1, back in bed about 2:30 although he would only go to sleep with us, in his bed he just started sooking. He was awake again about 6:30 - that's a good night!
Mrs Little - Kai will sometimes cry out in his sleep too - he's a bit of a puker and during the day I've noticed that he sometimes brings up a little, but not enough to actually vomit and that makes him cry out without waking up.
Twitch - I haven't got a mothers group - the MCH said that there is only one other first time mother in the area at the moment, so with 2 of us it probably wouldn't be all that worthwhile. Sooo many of the girls from work having bubs though that I just catch up with them instead.
charlis mum - I've been getting the cheeky corner of the eye breastfeeding smiles for a few days now - yesterday I got my first little grin without the boobie on offer - was amazing.
Hey Tan
I had heard of the old breastmilk in the eye trick & did try it the other morning before we went off to the Drs... silly me was hovering over DS with boobie in hand trying to squeeze 1 lousy drop in his eye. Never thought to express some first!!! D@mn idiot I am (maybe just sleep deprived).
Funny you should mention the caffine thing... I had exactly the same problem with DD. I only had to smell a coffee to ruin the next feed with her. Weird :detective: .
Hmmmmm... quiet in here today. BBL.
:wave:Hi ladies sorry haven't got time to do personals, just a quickie.
Sorry to all who are having unsettled nights Sam took some getting off last night too he's 8 weeks now and got to have his needles tomorrow:thumbsdown: . We saw the MCHN today and Samuel is now 9lb 4095g I can't believe how fast he is putting it on now. We are looking at changing his formula as he is always farting and it stinks and he seems so uncomfortable all the time the MCHN gave me some satches of S26 Gold and said to give him one feed a day of S26 for 4 days and then we will know if he is allergic or can't tolerate it if everything is ok then I can just switch him to the Heinz Nurture Gold that's what we were going with. See if it helps him.
It's so cute that so many are starting to smile Sam is just starting to attempt to smile I can't wait till we get a real one.
I'm not in a mothers group but I asked about one today and the MCHN says they do New Parent groups and the next one is in about 5 weeks so I'll be going to that and hopefully meeting some new people there.
Anyway gotta go his lordship is calling.

Welcome! Congratulations on Mac!
Miss Ani - my darling....I totally feel your pain! Every single waking hour of it! Tehya woke for her feed at 1am - and I was still awake with her at 4.30am! I fed her at 4.30am and she settled at 5.30am before waking at 7.30am for another feed. Ohhhhh - I'm so tired.
I don't have time to write much else - but I'm thrilled that we are doing well and our little bubs are gowing strong.
Hey - anyone from Melbourne?

BG I am concerned about my stomach/bowels too. Think maybe it is IBS or something but every night I get bad gut pains and lower back ache and every day I get urges to go to the toilet and I can't hold out, feels like I am going to have bad diahrea sorry for the TMI ladies :o Sometimes it is almost on the verge of diahrea other times it is just very very soft :o

Hey - anyone from Melbourne?
We're in Melbourne
Hiya Popcorn!

Today I do! The only thing that has settled Jedd today has been cuddles - which I must admit has been lovely... I love his little cuddles - he nuzzles his nose into my neck; so sweet!
Ohhh - and when he is done BF'ing he will take himself off the boob and then rest his head on the boobie... This is his "everybody needs a bosom for a pillow" motion LOL

Evening ladies...
Thanx for your welcomes. It feels a bit strange being in the May thread when i was in the June one for so long.
I'm curious to know what this 'aloe' stuff is that people keep talking about? What is it and what does it do?
Bubs has had a much more settled day for me today. I've been taking fenugreek to increase my milk supply and - wham- it's increased it. Now bubs seems more settled and sucks better.
So are some people actually doing comp bottle/formula feeds for the late night feeds but BF during the day? Have i understood that right?
Thankfully my bubs isn't sooky or cuddly 24/7...having another son (20months) makes hugging and cuddling too difficult all day long. But i do enjoy my cuddles after and before a feed!!
:fingerscrossed: for a more settled night for everyone! I would love a proper 2 hr block of sleep few times tonight. LOL.
Mrs Little & Son.
every day I get urges to go to the toilet and I can't hold out, feels like I am going to have bad diahrea :o Sometimes it is almost on the verge of diahrea
TSP - same here, every other day. I was wondering whether it was irritable bowl syndrome or something left over from the c-section? Not sure now.. will ask my GP about it next week.
Morning ladies, well I'll join the unsettled bub club had an awful night last night. I'm so tired  Took Sam for his immunisations today poor love but he was brave only a quick cry then he was okay again.
I hope the rest of you had a better night.
Good morning everyone!!!
Kristy - happybirthday to Ebony for today. WOW, 8 weeks!!! My DS is 6 weeks today. Gee it's gone quick, the last 6 weeks of pregnancy took forever!!! Love the photos, she is just beautiful & with such lovely hair.
Fozzie & sammiJane - I have been using the Heinz Nuture Gold with no probs... but every baby is different.
Popcorn - Hi, welcome & congratulations!!!
Lejay - I used to live & go to school in Melbourne... my Dad lives there & I go down once a year to visit (& buy clothes!!!).
Mrs Little - I only started giving DS a formula feed at night because he would be on the boob all day & I felt I had not near enough milk left for a satisfying feed before bed.
Pipsii - DS loves being held... it sure feels like 24hrs a day, but is usually in the late afternoon & early night. It starts around the time DD gets home from school & ends when he gets put down for sleep at night... sure makes cooking dinner hard!!!
I decided yesterday to give up breastfeeding...:crying:, my nips were getting sore again & he was just constantly hungry. My boobies are sooooo sore & huge now. I'm just about to jump in & have a shower for a bit of relief. Bubs seems much happier, we started yesterday with the usual before bed formula feed. Felt weird heating up a bottle over night, but he settled so well.
Did anyone hear of the 2 sets of sextuplets born within 24hrs of each other? The first set were born to a 24 year old, 4 boys & 2 girls. The 2nd set a 32 year old who carried them to 30 weeks!!! 3 boys & 3 girls.
An old pic of DD & DS at 5 days old (http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x317/drkustoms/postcash020.jpg). Just trying out the worded link.
Have a great day everyone!!!
Took Sam for his immunisations today poor love but he was brave only a quick cry then he was okay again.
Poor bubba... I hope he is ok today with no fever:fingerscrossed:.

I think Jedd is going through his first growth spurt  I have finally got him settled now, in the sling on my chest  but since 2am we've been feeding every 2hrs instead of the usual 4hrs...
Hubby is currently catching up on some sleep from last night - which is all good and well. I mean, I need him to be sane at least to help keep me sane; but I do wish he could feed Jedd too so that I could get some sleep
Hi ladies
Haven't had any time at all for bubhub lately.. I never realised how much of a full time job breastfeeding can be. I've been having a pretty hard time of it.. had mastitis last week (it's clearing up with antibiotics) and almost gave up on the bfeeding entirely, but nipple shields and my breast pump have come to my rescue. I'm now exclusively feeding from one boob & pumping from the other (DP feeds Panda EBM overnight) because bub only has a good latch on the left one. Not sure if this is really such a good idea but its working quite well for us at the moment.
Other than the feeding troubles, Pandora has been very good, she sleeps & settles well and she will suck on anything - boob, nipple shield, bottle, dummy (I caved & bought one :o), the end of my nose.. :p I hate her brace though. It really hinders skin to skin contact and I am getting frustrated at not being able to bath her. We are only allowed to give her sponge baths and I find they really don't cut it. :(
sorry for the 'me' post.. I haven't had time to read thru all the posts but I hope you're all doing well!

I hope you catch up on some sleep PL... how are your boobies handeling the 2 hourly feeds?
