My DD has been fighting to go to bed at night for the past week. A month ago she was so easy.I just popped her on my bed about 7pm, turned the music on, dimmed the light, gave her a bottle and she would suck it with no problem and off she went to sleep. Now everytime I put her down she'll scream and turns her head side by side madly. Over all she's a good nighttime sleeper, she sleeps from 7pm-3am, wakes up for a feed at 3 and 5am andgets up again at7.30am. It's putting to bed that becomes tiring atm. Any ideas on how to make her journey to a dreamland a bit more pleasant for her?

One other thing is she loves to be held a lot. When she's frustrated or upset, no matter what causes it, if I pick her up she'll instantly happy and stops crying. I love holding her a great deal but it becomes difficult because my shoulders and back just can't take it anymore and I can't do things when carrying her. We bought Domaro carrier and she hates it! I think she just isn't very comfortable in it, I've tried to adjust it but didn't seem to work. Now I'm thinking of buying a sling since a lot of you rave about it. The idea of having just a piece of cloth wrapping around her just sounds so good, she shouldn't be too uncomfortable I think. I just wanted to make sure that it's gonna work so I won't waste money on a piece of cloth (literally). Do you think it will work? Or she just a kind of baby who doesn't like to be put in anything else but real humans' arms?

My DD2 who loves to be held also loves the sling - she calms down instantly as she is still near my body - in fact is wrapped around it. It may also help with settling her - if you get one that is easy to take off and transfer to the bed when she is asleep - a good one won't put pressure on your back. I would recommend contacting Amanda at www.carryingaway.com.au - she is very helpful and steered me in the right direction to get the sling that I needed.

You could also contact Sheryn at www.keltorrdesigns.com/

Both Amanda at carryaway ad Sheryn have lots of knowledge and great customer service.

Karena - that is a great site! I have always wondered where the mesh hatchlings came from - now I know!

Thanks Theresa & Karena, I'm looking at those websites atm. Which ones are you using?

They are fantastic slings Theresa and Sheryn is soo nice. I have even known her to make up a sling if you find some material that you really like and send it to her. (With a prewarning of course :D)

Ying - I use a hotsling which is a sling which is a solid ring of fabric with a padded rail - no ring - and an ergo baby carrier which works like a sling but is a pouch - very different from the standard pouches (I cannot rave about mine enough!)

Karena - good to know for the future (especially for friends in DArwin where anything to cool down carrying a baby is a good thing!)

Theresa my SIL lives in Darwin and she loves her's.

I use a wrap sling, made it myself. Got 5 mt of material and just wrap it around to form a pouch which Harry sits in. When I have my next bub I will definately be getting some slings from Amanda and Sheryn, can't wait actually!!!!!!:)

Yes Karena - although I am not officially TTC I am planning on another sling if it should happen:D (and the hotslings have very groovy fabrics so they are like a whole range of accessories!!)

I would like to add to the clamour about the mesh hatchling sling, just wonderful, and SO much more comfy for baby than those 'Baby Bjorn' type things which put bubba in such an unnatural position.
I am just about to order a mesh stretch sling from Sheryn which is waterproof, so i can take my new one in the shower with me. :D

I was given a "baba sling" and my 4.5 month old DD absolutely loves it!!
Check out the website www.babaslings.com
Easy to use, and my DD loves sitting, lying and sleeping in it. It was a godsend in those first few weeks when she was hard to settle, very handy for keeping hands free when shopping etc.
Good luck in finding a sling that is right for you!! Z :)

Thanks girls :) I emailed Sheryn last night so am waiting to hear what she's going to suggest me. I'm really new to this sling things so have no clue what to look for. It looks to me that bubs can both be lying and sitting in slings, my DD loves to be held over the shoulders, how can I put her in that position when using a sling?

You could try something like an ABA sling or a wrap that holds them in a more upright position. Whereabouts are you? I've got an old ABA that you could try if you like:)

Thanks Katie, I'm in Sydney and I can see that you live in Brisbane so that would be a bit difficult :o Anywho, I really appreciate your offer.

Ok, DH just made me upset again (for the 100th times since DD was born  ). He said that DD wouldn't take slings as she doesn't like a traditional carrier so why would she like slings? I said I don't like the carrier we have either because it's just so uncomfortable and too hard to use. He said it's up to me if I want to buy it but I'll find out soon enough it won't work...grr...

Somebody proves him wrong please...DD's almost 4 months now, is that too late to start using a sling?

Men!
I used a baby bjorn with DD2 and didn't change to a sling until she was 6 months old and she coped fine with the transition. (And will never go back to the bb - I sold it!)

Face it - what is the worst that can happen? She won't like it. The best? She will love it, you will have a happy baby and a happy mum! Tell him to stop being a grumblebum! They are not expensive (in the scheme of baby paraphenalia) and it is worth a shot!

I used to use a baby carrier, i think it was a snugli. When MJ was about 4 months i got a ring sling & MJ Loves this one so much more than the carrier. Doesnt kill your shoulders either.

My DH was critical too, untill he saw MJ fall asleep within 10mins of being in the sling. He shut up then :p

Slings are a bit like magic in my opinion, and i think the best part is that the baby can actually curl up in the fetal position, and it is just so much more womblike.
My bet is she will LOVE it!!
You'll convert hubby yet!

OK, I'm definitely going to get a sling now! Just about to choose which colour and style I want (soooo many to choose). One more thing to consider before buying though - how do I protect bub when out and about in the sun? With prams, you can just use a shade or blanket to cover up but what about slings?

If you get a simple Ring Sling, there is heaps of material that hangs, so if we're in the sun I just throw that over her :)

PM me if you want more info :)

The other option that my mum reminded me of (so obvious that I hadn't thought of it) is to carry an umbrella - shade for both of you.

LOL, silly me :p My mum always tells me to carry an umbrella even without bub.
