The role of the moderators on Bub Hub is essential to ensure that the forum runs smoothly and, in general, peacefully.

I know a small percentage of members get a bit peeved at us having rules and enforcing them, but in general, those rules are there to ensure that the Bub Hub is what you want it to be...
free of abuse
free of swearing
free of spam and unwanted commercial advertising in postsOur mods are volunteers, so to make their lives easier, they follow the rules and use the automated infraction system. If they make the odd mistake, well we are all human, and we try to amend them.

Our moderation of the site is quite strict - and for good reason. There are some really feral forums out there - and we do not want to be one of them. We are very proud of our forum and the integrity of the site is why we get endorsed and recommended. We will continue to maintain those high standards.

When you register, you agree to the terms and conditions of a private forum. If you don't like those terms, please don't sign up. But having signed up, you are deemed to have accepted those terms and agree to abide by them.

I get a few whinges about 'freedom of speech' - again, this is a free, private forum and if the owners don't feel that a certain topic should be discussed here, then we close those threads down. Members need to accept that - even if the reasons for a particular topic not being discussed may not be clear to you. It may be that we are not a liberty to discuss why a particular issue is not permitted on Bub Hub.

There are also the occasional comments of 'favouritism' by mods. That is not the case. Mods do confer about infractions and we always go with a majority vote - but the system only allows one mod to actually make the infraction. There is much going on behind the scenes!

A very, very small % of members have occasionally used the reporting system for their own agendas, but we see through that and act with discernment. We encourage private disputes to be handled privately, away from the forum.

Please rest assured that our mods act as a team and act with integrity.

If you have a problem with a moderation issue, please pm a mod or administrator about it and we will do our best to sort it out.

We have had a few questions about the moderators power over private messages (PMs), so hopefully, the explanation below will let you know what the go is.

Moderators cannot read bubhub forum PMs. Administrators, such as Hilary (bubhub), can delete PMs that have been sent by banned members if the PMs are suspected of breaking the site rules.

If you have any other questions about this, or any other moderator activity, just send any of us a PM and we'll sort it out for you.

Cheers

I would just like to add there, that if any activity or comments from a PM are thought to be breaking our forum rules, those pms are forwarded onto us by members.

That is usually how we get to read the offending pms.

As an administrator, I can read pms if I really need to - however, I have never had reason to do this to date.

It is a legal requirement of any web/email system hoster that an administrator is able to access messages being sent through their system. I'm sure that hotmail, for example, can access your inbox and read it if they have good cause to do so.

Whilst a few people might shout, 'privacy' at that point, I repeat that I have never had reason to go in and read anybody's pms to date. But if the capability to do so was not there, the criminals, drug pushers and terrorists of the world would be laughing as we would be presenting those people with a free system to exchange plans and plots without fear of being tracked...
