I like getting paint (make sure it's water based) and painting leaves and cutting potatoes in half (and then cutting shapes into them) and using them as stamps. Also just general finder painting. Can be a bit messy but everyone likes it!
Also pasta jewellery is a good one.

Hi there,
I have 2 girls 8 and 11 and they've been keeping themselves entertained over the holidays pretty well (been off school for 4 weeks now and haven't killed each other, lol)
Watching DVDs (if you go to blockbuster or video ezy on Tuesdays they generally have $1 days) depends on the store
8 year old has been cutting and pasting and coloring, making her own dolls house out of used careal boxes, tissue boxes etc (basically anything that's not nailed down shes been cutting up).
They went through our glad bag of clothes this morning and cut up some of those and made their own version of fashion (noice Kimmy, noice!!)
The internet is a veritable chamber of entertainment for kids,
try www.neopets.com
www.barbie.com
www.myscene.com
www.jigzone.com (an online jigsaw website)
do they have their own jigsaws?
I know it's probably pretty tight with water restrictions but do you have one of those little pools for them to play with?
baking biscuits & cakes and let them ice them by themselves
Hope some of these ideas help

Just so you know, NeoPets is completely addictive (sort of like Tamagotchi). Took me like 6 months to ween myself off of it! :D
excellent , thanks heaps for the ideas! The kids will love it :p
i know what you mean about them cutting everything up! the 3 of them have been craft crazy!
i'll give them websites a go and i'll be careful of the neopets lol.
well theres a heap more things for them to do, thanks so much for that !!!
:D hahahahaha:D
I know so many people on Neopets, we're all addicted, even have our own guild ;)

You ladies have such awesome ideas!
Can I suggest making your own pizzas - have a small pizza base for each child (it can just be pita bread if you like), and a few bowls of topping ingredients, and each child gets to make their own pizza. My DSS' used to love this one....
Just supervise them around the hot oven, naturally!:)
Thanks for the fantastic ideas!!!
Also...
uno is great and any other board games.
I'm about to organise a sleep over for my daughter, that always goes down well.
hmmmm. will keep thinking, and checking in on all your ideas !:)

The pizzas are great even for us bigger kids (my DH loves them). It's more cost effective if you use a large $3 jar of leggos plain tomato sauce, add in some olive oil (thins it up a bit - goes further and crisps the base) and add in some dried basil and oregano.
Also, to cut back on the mozzerella (it's getting a bit rich), cover the base after adding the sauce with cheese and once all the toppings are on, only put a little bit on the top - this way you get the cheesy look without using a tonne of cheese.
