View Full Version : Swollen Red Finger Near Nail.
Is this normal? - or rather, nothing to worry about
Cobey's been unusually fussy and clingy for the evening ever since he woke up from a surprise nap.
I've just noticed that his middle finger is red and a bit swollen right at the top near the nail, it's also quite hot feeling.
Before I get called a paranoid freako mother, I'm normally quite calm and collected about issues, but being that he hasn't stopped whinging for the last 3 hours, surely I have reason to ask about weird puffy fingers.
Here is a photo. (http://flickr.com/photos/nikki_m/493450719/) Honestly it doesn't look too bad due to him pressing on my finger and the flash. but yeah. :/

Is it possible that the quick got pulled at all? Or maybe he was bitten by something. Hope he's ok :hugs:

Hmmm by any chance does bub suck their fingers?
Emily had an infection that looked like this, doctor said it was from sucking it too much,
My doctor just said to keep it clean and wash it with salty water.
he said if it didnt clear up in a week to go back and they would drain it. but it went away after 5 days.
Could it be a little bit of an ingrown nail??
Has he burst out crying today for what you think is no reason ?(ie he could have trapped it in something without you noticing?)
I did say it looked like my nails when I bite them too much and they get a bit infectedy.
Hmm.
Natasha - he's been at daycare all day, and only sooky since coming home but he's also been attached me me all afternoon.. :/ I wondered too if it was something he's jammed it against. He was very happy at daycare, and no word on if he hurt himself like that there (they're really good too)

Certainly looks like the quick to me Nikki. Have his nails been cut recently?
Poor baby, i get so upset when I hear stuff like this, I just want to hug him......:hugs:
Has he indicated that it's his finger that is bothering him?? Can panadol help with something like this..??? well, something that you don't really know but ykwim.......
Aside from the whinging he hasn't been "limping" on it or anything..
Actually as soon as Daddy got home he stopped whinging *sigh*
Further thought makes me think perhaps it is the quick thing, I inspected it closer (while he slept) and did notice it was a bit close near one side.
Poor wee bubba. :(

To me it looks like a mozzie bite. When my bubs gets bites espeically on their toes and fingers they swell up like that. They also get whiny because it is itchy but they don't really know how to relieve that itch!
