 How are you?

Well I've just enquired about RedRags, as they have a pack that includes a Mooncup (UK), $100NZ. Not sure what that converts to in AU.

I've also bought a Nice Knickers.

What is everyone using, and what do people recommend?

I bought Nice Knickers - to be honest I wasn't the biggest fan of them and I have also bought a Women of the World pad from Sustainable Hemp Products - I think they are Girly Bit's someone correct me if I am wrong but wasn't really happy with that one either.

I have some more in the mail which are brocade ones so see how I go with those ones.;)

Oooh that pack sounds interesting.

I like girly bits - though not always easy to get.
I like Obsidian Star for night and heavy flow.
I also have a few others which are organic coton and commercially made.

Hey yeah Kymmy the pack includes 2 liners and 3 standard pads... Theirs are shaped in a circle and are pockets...

I am having a LOT of trouble getting the ones I want from Obsidian.

With the amount of sold outs I'm suprised more people aren't sewing like crazy... I'm starting to think I"m going to have to have a go at sewing my own, and using buttons, coz I don't have a snap machine, and even if I did, I wouldn't have a clue how to use it.

I went to Sustainable Hemp Products and they didn't have ANY pads there at all...

I've just done a Yahoo Conversion and it works out to be approx $88 AU so I'll have to see if they try to rip me off!

I'm also going to buy some pads of Noonee Wilga, as she's maintained contact with me, and she makes them and is willing to make what I want.

Can't get onto anyone else, getting VERY FRUSTRATED!

I made my own up the other day will load a picture up to show you how I went - they don't have snaps in the pic but they do now ;)

I cannot beleive the Nice Knickers was only $9 including postage! *insert shocked look on face*

Thanks for the tip, Oscar's. Going to do that now.

Isn't anyone else using cloth pads?

I'm DEFINATELY going to get that RedRags pack if they get back to me...

OM wow that's really cool. I like.

I don't have an overlocker, although Irene does. Can I ask a REALLY stupid question? You sewed them inside out, and THEN turned them the right way? How did you get the seams so neat? And then you inserted your 'core' before sewing up etc?

kymmy - I did see Obsidian's super maxi heavy enormous goddess massive nighttime pad  I wanna get me one of those!

I didn't actually overlock them - I tried again and again to overlock them but it is impossible to overlock such a sharp corner on the wings so I took a leaf from another makers book and used an overlocking type stitch, but a different stitch to what they used, I didn't like the stitch they used.

So I didn't turn them the right way at all.

I have just bought a couple of different ones to try - I was thinking about making some too Pobblebonk. I like Sckoons the best. They are just so nicely finished and well made with good fabrics.

I bought a LilyPad too, cos I couldn't find much else in stock but it isn't nice at all.

Outrageous look very nice too.

Fantastic OM - Are you going to sell?

Pads seem to be in high demand - its amazing.
My mum wants to make some to sell.
There is definitely a market there.
I guess I have been lucky to get mine.
Its great if you can get them custom made as all women are different

PB - I had a look at the red rag - they look awesome - never seen them in a circle like that with a pocket for boosting. Looks cute. If you get them please let us how you go.

Most of mine are Obsidian's. I got in before she stopped/slowed down with her customs.
I also got 4 hemp Girly Bits (OM - the ones from sustainable hemp are GB's) and I like them. Quite a thickish pad, but small and good for day.
I also have 1 silk topped bamboo/hemp GB that is fantastic. I'd really like to get some more of these. I almost scored the special stocking at SHP last night but just missed out!
Michelle said they will be getting more GB's in soon:thumbsup:
I also have 3 wahm made hemp pads that I use as liners. These were my first and made by a lovely BHer for me to try out. Great length (shortish) but not absorbent enough for a heavy day.

Pobble - sign up for newsletters with SHP, join up with GB's yahoo group, GreenBeans NZ newsletter (they stock Outrageous! pads and mooncups), and anywhere else that sells pads and has newsletters! That way you'll know ahead of time when they'll be restocking pads and you can be ready with your lightning fast clicking finger:D

I've said time and time again more people should get into pad making. It's just a pity I wasn't born with the sewing gene:crying:

I'm so confused. How did you get your seams so neat then if you didn't sew them inside out and then turn them the right way up?

I have used an overlock type stitch on my own sewing machine... mainly when I'm taking up pants or jeans and the bit I cut off, to keep it neat and tidy and non-fraying. I hope that babble makes sense, I'm not very 'in' with the sewing slang.

Just going to say in advance, sorry about the multiple posts...

Duchessa, it's obvious to me that the same person who owns PeaPods owns Lily Pads because they are made of the same fabric, and are made overseas but owned in Australia. I hope that makes sense.

I saw the Skoons too and I thought they were awesome, but the price isn't. I have a $50 store credit at The WeeWuns so I might get a couple with that. They do look nice, don't they?

By the way, I asked Hilary for a special section to discuss cloth pads etc and she's opened one up in the General Health bit. Enjoy. I'm going to see if this thread can get moved into there...

The material wasn't slip0pery so that may have made it easier;)

I'm still really confused.

Okay, if I were to sew something like that, I'd have turned it inside out, sewed it all up, then turned it the right way out, and then sewn it closed.

How are you doing it if you aren't doing it this way?

That's it, I'm going to have a go and doing them myself.

Which pattern did you use, OM? I like your pads. I'm going to be a copy cat.

Hi! I've just ordered some Happy Heiny's daytime and nightime pads from The WeeWuns.

There goes my $50 store credit GONE!

Once that RedRag mob get back to me *taps foot impatiently* I'll be RED-AY to go for next month!

Arrrgggg pity my girlie friends (Alyish for AF) have just gone away...

That is my own pattern:D

But I get my fabric and cut all around so all my pieces are cut out then place them all together and sew in the overlocking type stitch - does that make sense now? So you can see the stitch it isn't on the inside.

So then OM your edges are all raw then? Or do you stitch it THAT close to the edge?

OM

Yep raw but stitched very close so it will slightly fray to begin with but you can cut the fly away threads off.

Nice Knickers do that with some of their pads too;)

I'd be happy with that OM. So long as the rest of the pad isn't going to come apart then it'd look alright.

My fav are girly bits... I have a BV mermaid and peacock.
I also like obsi I have a few geishas and some others.
I have some of the old style nice knickers I really love the fit of these pads but I dont like the fraying.
But I know her new stock is turned and topstitched.
The best option Ive seen out there is moondancemama, you can buy either the pads or liners and then boost them.
I really love this idea.
It is just a great safegaurd you can add to any pad. I put a booster behind any of my liners or pads works great.

Im still working on my own pad, just havent worked out how to turn and topstitch correctly.

I have lots.

I really like Girly Bits and have about 7 of these, include BV and a lovely mermaids one.

About 6 Outrageous ones, sign up to green beans newsletter to find out about stockings.

I also have Obsidian star, silk liners, 4 Rainbows and about 7 I've made myself. When making them myself i stitch inside out, then turn and top stitch.

I've just taken delivery on some BV so am going to make up some more pads with that....yummmmm

I have a few ppl trying them at the moment so I will see what they think of them - otherwise I will change the pattern to turn and topstitch;)
