I was going through a magazine and I found an add for this nut free butter called Eskel Free Nut Butter. Apparently you can buy it at Woolies and Coles. The add says:
Eskel FreeNut butter is not only a healthy spread made from sunflower seeds, it is also a great way to bring back the peanut butter sandwich as an old school favourite, without the dangers of allergic reactions from kids at school.
Has anyone tried this? Want to know if it is any good. Because I would like to give my 12 month old peanut butter but am wondering if this would be a better alternative at the moment...:detective:
I haven't tried it but the creche were I sent my son say it's fabulous. You still need to be wary of the sunflower seeds as kids can still have an allergy to that.

Ok I bought a jar today and it was expensive (as expected) but I wanted to try it. And I havent given it to DS yet but I have tasted it and it is yummmmmmmmmmmmm! Tastes very much like peanut paste but more sweet.

I think it tastes like a very good substitute, it has a very sweet taste. I am only going to give bubs a tiny taste at first though just incase of sunflower seeds allergy but that is very very unlikely. Atleased you can send your kids to school etc. with this in their sandwiches if they like peanut butter

My dad's friend bought us some of this at the recent food allergy expo in Brisbane. Dad dropped it over about ten minutes ago and I haven't tried it yet. We had seen it, but thought it was a bit naff - like "not chicken" and "not sausages" for vegetarians (we kind of thought - why bother?), but now that we have some, we'll give it a go. DH LOVES peanut butter, so was very sad to throw it out. We agreed to go totally nut free until bub is big enough for an epi pen.

definetely try it. It is yummy, tastes just like peanut paste. I dont think I will buy another jar too soon, as Ive been eating it out of the jar! lol
My DDs kinder which doesn't allow any nut products won't let us use this nut free butter either because teachers cannot tell the difference between it and peanut butter!

You only haveto taste a tiny bit to tell the difference. It is much sweeter in taste, and has a different texture.
They should allow you to use it. I mean, if a parent tells them that their child has this on their sandwiches Im sure they wouldnt be lying?

To any mother who is concerned about a child having an allergy to sunflower seeds/paste such as Eskel Free Nut Butter. Allergy to sunflower is very rare. As a matter of fact there are only 30 recorded cases of such an allergy here in Oz and those are people who's intake is so limited that they can be fed mainly on supplement via feeding tube in hospital. I think it's a crying shame that there are so many children being born with extreme allergies and it's about time that we start asking ourselves why. When you were growing up I think you would have found it hard to know a person who couldn't eat nuts. I had one friend who couldn't in all my years. In my son's preschool class alone there are three. Out of 18 kids. That's a sixth of the class. MAJOR PROBLEM.

I know this is an old thread, but I thought I'd add my recent experience. My son has reacted to peanut butter and hommus. Thinking the Freenut butter would be OK for him, we bought some. Within about 2 minutes of eating it, he was extremely sick. His reaction escalated into anaphylaxis. I've read that allergy to sunflower seeds is rare, but I can't account for anything else in his diet at that time.
So until an allergist has tested your child, be wary of this product.
Fortunately he is OK and we are set to see an allergist early in the New Year. As with any advice over the internet, back it up with your own research.
I am guessing this stuff tastes like a sweet peanut butter? If so I am so buying some to try as I have a life threatening allergy to peanuts and I used to love eating peanut butter from the jar.
I am about to buy this product although I can't get it at my grocerie store but I've found it on my favourite online gluten free shop. I'm quite eager to try this as my daughter has autism and has self restricted her food variety, at this point I'm up for anything that may possibly work for her. I spoke with my daughters childcare director and she advised me that as long as the ingredients list hasn't got any form of "nut" on it, it IS accepted. So yep I'm buying it to give it a try, I've never heard of peanut paste but I'm not worried about it not being exactly like peanut butter as my daughter is very fussy anyway and with her gfcf diet, she's either going to like it or not.
Thanks for this thread...:fingerscrossed:
