Hello
I'm very new to this. My DH has just told me that we may be moving to just North of Perth (possibly Joondalup/coast area in the next 3-4 months - he was a bit vague!!).
I'm petrified I don't know anyone and I've just found out I'm pregnant!! eeeek....I have a gorgeous 12 year old from my previous marriage....I thought my nappy days were over - feeling very rusty!!
can anyone give me an idea of what the areas around there are like and general facilities??
Thanks

Hi there,
Perth is a great city. Joondalup is to the north, approx 25min to the city on the train, a little longer on the freway. It is also not far from the beach, maybe 10 mins.
I used to live quite close to there in Wanneroo which is more inland but we moved to the country for my DH's work.
The housing is mainly brick and tile or tin roof and not too old. Joondalup has only been established in the last 10 to 15 years.
They have a reasonable shopping centre and there are larger ones not too far away at Whitfords and Karrinyup. They also have quite a good range of commercial shops in their own area.
The people are easy to get to know but it is not a small community by any stretch. I would encourage you to join the playgroup once bub is born and definately take an actice interest in your DD's school, that will help with friends.
Anything more specific you want to know?
Joondalup is a really nice area and the shopping centre there is currently being extended so its going to end up huge!!!! Almost anything you could want is in the area. And there are quite a few bubhubbers in the area as well that im sure will make you and your family very welcome!!!

:wave:Hello..
I live in in the suburb just before joondalup.. so like 5 mins away..
I love it here.. Its 5 mins to the beach (prob 8-10 from joondalup) and has a huge shopping centre.. also another large shops whitfords is only 10 mins away.. Quite new housing and lots of parks/schools..
Very close to the train line and public transport..
Only about a 20 min drive into the city (assuming its not peakhour)
Im am also currently preg with my 2nd child.. ;)
There are alot of us mums that either live in the surrounding few suburbs or close to the area that catch up on a weekly basis so once your here you should defiantly come and have a coffee and chat..
Hope to chat to you soon..
Feel free to ask any questions..
Kristy

Thanks so much for the replies!! I've been having a look on realestate.com and I like the look of Iluka and along the coast. Is that too far to commute to the city - think about work for DH!
I have been to WA on hols but I stayed in Mandurah - from memory that was a bit of a hike into the city.
Still a bit shell shocked about being pregnant....I'm not sure if I'm more scared about that or moving across the country!!!
Thanks again for making me feel welcome. I'm off to explore the rest of this website, it looks great!:smiliedance:

Iluka is an excellent prestige suburb!!
Depends what you can afford. Houses in there are quite new think they still have some land available.
It would only add maybe 5 to 10 mins to the trip into the city. Joondalup is right on the train/freeway line where Iluka being on the coast is a 5 to 10 min drive from the train/freeway.
It is a really nice suburb with great facilities although you would still need to go to Joondalup or Whitfords for major shopping so i guess it depends what your priorities are. Coast, shops or clost to transport line for DH work.
 Perth Northern suburbs:thumbsup: . Almost like Brisbane / Gold coast life style- just sand in your yard minus the cane toads lol. You'll all be fine. Such suburbs all the services you’d need & more. If you're a party animal the city, Subiaco & Fremantel is the place to be. You'll be there in an hour by car from Joondalup. Brisbane was a nice place. I went to Lourdes Hill College , Hawthorne donkey years ago . I hope you’ve secured a home & car by now. Our public transport isn’t great. Petrol ~$138 /L. If you aren’t fussed about preloved goods go onto the freecycleperth (http://www.freecycleperth/). website, I’ll help with the cargo cost. All the best :hugs: 118
there are a couple of really good schools up in Joondalup.

i live between the whitfords-joondalup area and have been for over 10years.. and i love it.:D
its fairly quiet and (imo) alot safer than the southern suburbs. (not that i dont think they're nice)
the hospitals (joondalup and osborne park) are nice, i went to ossie for my first bub and am planning on having my wee girl at joon cause its closer to where i live.
the main shopping - joon, whit, warwick etc - are nice, not too crowded and joon is being upgraded at the mo, whit was upgraded 2-3yrs ago
i use public transport alot (cuz i cant drive LOL) and its fairly safe - cept weekend nights - but thats normal tho right??
Hi there,
We've just moved up the coast to just 5 mins south of Joondalup (very close to IILuka) and I'm looking to meet people too! Even though I'm from Perth mainly none of our friends have children so am feeling a little isolated. Especially being a first time mum too, giving up my career etc.. We have a gorgeous 6 month old boy- Fletcher who is fab but is not too keen on being at home during the day so I need to get out a lot...There are fabulous places to walk along the beaches in this area and great play parks. A lovely spot to bring up children! Hope the move goes well!:)
If anyone else can let me know of good playgroups etc in the Craigie/Mullaloo area that would be great. Unfortunately as Fletch had bad reflux for the first 3 months we didn't go anywhere and missed out on mothers group
