That sounds really great, but what is it? Is it the birth centre?

I can help answer whatever you want to know.....

V8 - There are 4 main options of care for your pregnancy;

1. Share care with your GP
2. Birth Centre (Ballot done at 16 weeks so get in asap)
3. Team midwifery care
4. Tertiary care (By an obstetrician)

Ok so number 3. Team care is referred to at RBWH as either Phoenix Team or Pegasus Team. They are both the same as each other except one clinic runs on Thursday and one on Friday. A team of 8 midwives will look after you during your pregnancy (therefore you go to the hospital for all checkups etc and are looked after solely by midwives), hopefully then one of those 8 midwives whom you have met will look after you during your birth and then also on the ward for your postnatal stay.

The idea of the teams is to incorporate continuity of care - which has been shown to relate to better birth outcomes, as well as care by a known midwife. The teams are more accepting of alternate forms of pain relief although don't discourage the use of whatever you want to use during your birth. We are more inclined to acknowledge birth plans and therefore help you develop them during your pregnancy and so on and so on.....

2 boys only, im not actually in brissy, but did have my first 2 at mackay bc, im just wondering what the go is with vbacs, i know o's mum was allowed to go thru the pegasis program with vbac, but when i spoke to one of the midwives up here, sh said nope i cant come back :crying:, is this cause of the vbac thing or the fact that last baby was a high risk pg resulting in a preemie???

hummm i really need to go see the girls before i try for number 4 !!!

YAY! You probably saw me at some point.

I loved the program. I just love midwives!

The care was fantastic, I only saw an Ob once, and that was to interpret my 19 week scan. :)

When I went into labour I was looked after by the same midwives I saw at Antenatal.. Tania caught cobes. I loved her, she was fantastic :D She was so beautiful, kissing my forehead, telling me I was doing a good job. So bubbly too!!
And as soon as I entered birth suite she said "Oh there's a face I remember!" nice and personal.

I would recommend it to anyone :D

I think it would be because of the high risk - I nearly got chucked out of the midwife clinic because of the diabetes test but then scraped through so they let me stay after some arguing.
