Hi,
I dont know if I have put this in the right section but I was wondering if any one eles has suffered from hair loss after finishing up breast feeding? :(
I started Caitlin on the bottle about a month ago and since then have been losing handfulls of hair in the showere each day, plus it is just dropping out all over the house.... i am continually pulling out strands of hair through the day. it is so gross. and im worried that it will thin my hair. I have heard of people having things like their hair snapping off in one spot but then it grows back. is there a way to stop my hair from dropping out?
please let me know if there is something I can do to help my hair, or if anyone else suffered the same thing
Tah

Vonnie the same thing happened to me when I finished breastfeeding. When I was pregnant I didn't lose a single hair which was weird for me. But once the breastfeeding was over it fell out all over the place. My hair didn't look thin but under the fringe you could see a lot of new hair growth. Things are back to normal now. I have long dark hair so it probably looked worse than it was.

I hope this is a bit of comfort

Hi Vonnie / Easterlily
Hair loss post delivery is completely normal. Hair loss goes on "hold" while you are pg, but after the birth, you've got to pay the piper and all of those hairs that would have normally fallen out if you hadn't been pg will now be lost. With both my pgs, my hair started coming out within a few months of the birth (quite astounding to see the amount I would lose while washing my hair). It continued for a few months, and then stopped.

This kind of loss won't "thin"your hair, because you are just getting back to the amount of hair you had pre pg.

Hope this puts your mind at rest.

I agree the amount of hair falling out is alarming but xkwzit is right, my hairdresser got 5 ph calls in one week about this! My hair did thin out, but only my hairdresser (and I) could tell.

Yep my hair is falling out too but I've got thick hair to begin with so it's not so bad. It's thinning though at my temples the most. It's a great look ;)

I don't think it's anything to do with finishing breastfeeding. I am still feeding my 7 month old 6 times per day and my hair fell out in truckloads from the time she was 3 months - 6 months. Apparently, that is the normal onset and duration of postpartum hair loss. It does stop though I can promise!!
