View Full Version : Green poo for BF baby???
Hi Guys
For the past 3days bub has had green poos????? he seems happy ect, i dont think its a tummy bug. he snacks all through the day so if he is hungry under 2hrs from his last snack i will give him the same boob. his wee is a bit smelly too. i think he might be teething...could this give him green poos??? i dont know if i should take him to the doc today to get him checked out. :(
Thanks

Hi Tamz,
You've obviously been eating all your green vege's like a good girl!!!! :D I knew a lady who had a meal one night with a massive serving of pea's, and the next day, her bf bubs poo's were pea-green!!!
I would say, take him to the doc, if for no other reason than your peace of mind. But if bubs is well in himself, having wet nappies, I wouldn't worry. The smelly wee's might just be that he's a tad dehydrated, that can sometimes make their wee's more concentrated. But to put your mind at ease, take him to the doc or your child health nurse. :)

alice had lots of green poo for the first couple of months of life. was never a problem, but i was worried at the time. do some google searches on "green stools" and similar key words and you will find out the reason for this. something to do with not enough hind milk, but i am not so sure as alice would always have really big long feeds and still get green poo, so who knows. don't worry too much about it if he is well and happy!!! :)
Lol I remember the first time DS had a green poo I was really worried then yeah someone told me it was probably something to do with all the greenery I was eating!
thanks for the replies
i dont think hes dehydrated, he has 10+ wet nappies in 24hrs.
i havent eatten much green things. i hope hes getting enough hine milk. he snacks all day and only has a proper feed at night when hes half asleep.

Sometime bubs get green poo becuase of things you have eat that don't agree with them, and no they don't have to be green.
DS gets them if I eat to many tomatos or tomato based products, and chocolate. Oh and if he swallos salt water from the ocean

bf bubs get green poos if they don't get enough hind milk. If bubs is feeding every 2hrs, I would imagine that he is probably mostly getting the foremilk. If he is putting on weight ok, it isn't a problem. My son used to do lots of green poos, but was still putting on 200+ grams a week. I tried to only feed him every 3 hrs, so that he wasn't snacking and defintely not less than 2.5hrs.

my mum always told me green poos meant the bubba had wind??
As you can see, there are heaps of theories about green poo! :D
My son would have them occasionally, and as he was happy, wetting well and generally very healthy, I never worried about it.

i got told by a midwife that it was sugar that caused green poos and seeing i LOVE choccy i thought there was an element of truth in that. My son also used to get green poos when i had a glass of milk the day before. :)
i think it was chocolate. i had quite afew biscuites and he became really restless. i wont be doing that again!!!!!
thanks for the replies :)
