View Full Version : Help - ideas for working from home
I am looking for ways to earn money from home so I am able to stay home with Caitlyn. I am already and Avon Representative but find it hard to get out during the day to do it. I really need somehting I can do from home. It doesn't need to make me alot of money (though it would be nice!) and I can probably dedicate about 15 hours per week to it. I have secretarial skills in dental, medical and debt collection areas. Has anyone got any ideas????
Thanks
Jo
Hello,
I have finally admitted that I am unable to stay at home with my daugther and I will have to return to work. Here is a list of the millions of options I went through before I came to that conculsion. I hope they might work for you.
Avon, Tuperware, Learning Ladder (you sell children's toys)
Family Day Care (You look after other children in your own home. Training is free and they find the children for you and support you.)
Selling a product on E-bay (My sister makes childrens wraps and blankets and sells them)
Selling a product at a local Market on a weekend (You can take your child with you, or leave them in care - The product could be fruit, veggies, cakes, jams, clothes, frames, handmade clothes, handbags. You could even ask Avon if you could sell there product at the market or another company with a product you believe in)
You can usually pick up work dropping off juke mail in your local area.
Lots of people do ironing for other people at home. They advertise in the newspaper or on the local notice board.
You can start a small business - But having a good idea and the money to start it is hard.
Depending on your work they can sometimes agree to let you work from home.
I hope it helps.

Hello there
Keep looking, keep thinking, there must be stuff that you can do from home in this day and age!
Are you good with English? - You could do correspondant work for your local rag.
Or if you can type there may be some companies run by people you know who could use secretary skills - which you could do from your PC.
Put a business type case together - something simple listing your skills and what you can acheive from home, give them fees that you would charge and how much you can do in an hour etc - and take it to local companies. Make an appointment with the manager and tell them where you can fit in their company.
You may be very surprised at the support that is out there.
Maybe look into becomming a Kindermusik teacher for your area - then bub can go with you.
Good Luck!
Warmest regards,
Jessie

Hi there
I am a mum of a 20mth old and am also 22 weeks pregnant. Like everyone else I have been looking for ways I can stay at home with my children and earn some money. I left a high paying corporate job for dirty nappies, playgroup and cooking and cleaning duties and most days love it. I am a Kindermusik educator and have just stared up in Bulimba. It is hard yakka and you require around $5000 to get it off the ground. It is a fantastic developmental program for kids but does require alot of behind the scences time with preparing lessons and learning new songs and instrumetns etc. You do need to have some music talent and be able to sing in tune without music. I really enjoy it and so do the kids who come along to my classes however if you are looking for something to make a decent return then Kindermusik is probably not the best option. It is one of those jobs you do for the love of it.
Regards
Paula

I think someone else has already mentioned this but a good way to make some money and still be at home is Family Day Care. You can either advertise yourself or go through a scheme. The advantage of going through an established scheme is that they provide you with support, including the toys, cots, prams, etc that you need, and they refer the families who need care to you. You can do it for as many days and hours a week as you want to - it doesn't have to be full time. And the schemes (normally run by community centres or councils in your area) are always looking for more carers. Just look up "Family Day Care" in the white pages and work out which is your local scheme if you want more information.

I don't know if this is much help, or if you would make much money from it, but I recently went to a Body Shop home party. It was a lot of fun and the host sold hundreds of dollars worth of products that night - but I don't know how much she earns from it. She had a young baby and was doing this so she could stay at home with the baby. Hope you figure something out! From Debbie.
Thanks to everyone for your ideas. I have decided to expand my Avon area and try to increase my sales. I really like the products and enjoy doing it so hopefully taking on another territory will help. You can make money rfom it but like everything else it depends on the amount of time and effort you want to put into it. I will also probably become a Kindermusik teacher some time down the track but I need to save up first.
Thanks again,
Jo :)

Hi - I come from an office background before having my first child. I managed to convince one of my previous employers to let me take on some office work from home. It has had some teething problems but now I prepare newsletters and do a little marketing and promotions via email and the telephone, I even book travel for staff and take on other little projects that others don't have the time for. In this day and age almost anything can be done from home, you just need to sell the idea to people so they give it a shot. Try racking your brain for any family and friends businesses, previous employers....anywhere you may get a foot in the door. Data-entry, newsletters and presentations, even envelope stuffing can be outsourced home.
Oh I also heard of another mum doing market research focus groups. I believe you can get paid up to $60 for one session in some cases.
Hope this helps!

What about delivering your local paper. It certainly helps you get the kilos off as well. Great on a sunny day but not so good in the rain.
Typing up reports for university students.
Answering online surveys (you often see them when you do a google search for something.
Just a few ideas. Good luck!
