Just wondering, what would you think of this..

My mum adored the name Hayley, I was going to be named Hayley until a few days before birth when she was told "OH! Cute! Hayley Bailey" (yeah, never ran it with the last name..) she told me how much she always loved that name.

Fast forward 21 years, My sister-in-law is pregnant, we're tlaking baby names and I mention Hayley.. she then named her daughter Hayley :( but swears black and blue that she can't remember that conversation. I do believe her, but it still hurts a bit as Chris' family is very close so it's not like some distant cousin having the same name. It would be like a constant playmate with the same name.

Go again 2 years later, I'm pregnant and thinking Baby names, while we ADORE the name Eva Ann, Hayley still creeps in. I wouldn't use it as a first name, for reasons above, but would it be okay to use it as a middle name.. like Adele Hayley (oh I'm loving Adele at the moment) or even Eva Hayley?

Just curious as to what you would do..

I can't see any reason why you couldn't use it as a middle name....and if anyone puts up a fuss, then let them, its your choice! Both Adele & Eva sound really nice with Hayley too. Good Luck!

oh dear

we had the same dramas... one of the names we really liked was benjamin ... when we mentioned it to my SIL she immediately said - oh .. yeah.. I quite like that name. (I was furious... as her son (although born) didn't have a middle name-and I had told DH to tell her nothing). She then named him Wil Benjamin.

We got over our frustration - and then went on to name our little man Jack William (we did check with her first though!) - so the cousins have a name in common.

as a middle name I really dont think it matters... I only plan on calling him Jack William when he is in trouble :D so go for it!!!

Nothing worse than when people 'steal' your baby name! Reminds me of that episode in Sex and the City when Charlotte's baby name gets used by a GF! I had the same thing. I loved Lachlan and Aiden...both got nicked. One I can't use because the baby who had it died - I feel like that would be stirring up too many sad memories for my Cousins.

Have Hayley as a middle name. I also love Adele...have a GF called that and she's a sweet special needs teacher. Why is it a name can gain or lose favour if you know someone with that name?

I think go for it for the middle name! Sounds lovely. I personally don't have a problem using a name that someone else has - if I have wanted to call my baby that for a long time.

My mum was going to call me Nicole, till my cousin Nicole was born, so I became Tarnie Nicole. I think it may happen a lot.:)

As to Hayley Bailey, I had to work for weeks to convince DP that we didn't want to call our new baby Edward Hayward! Eep - the poor little fellow! Luckily I remembered he loved 'Fight Club' (what man didnt?) and so suggested Tyler. Whose middle name is Bailey - my mother's maiden name.

I say go for it.......but talk to them first too.

My SIL used Jack as a middle name, and it was one of the names that we were tossing around for DS. If I still like it when it's time for bubs # 2 then I'll ask them if they mind us using it as a first name. I doubt that they will. If they're going to be close play mates and be a big part of each others lives then it could also be looked at as being a nice family tie. Something special that they share.

I just realised, actually, that my cousin's first name is my middle name, she's younger than me. :) I know I should work these things out earlier but hey, baby brain, and we haven't spoken in about 10 years.

I spoke to my SIL today, about many things (poor girl, she's had 3 kids and she's the only one I'm really close to who's had bebes.. and she's studying midwifery, so she gets bombarded in questions) but one of them I asked if she would mind if I used Hayley as a middle name, she said "Go for it!" and was really happy (she knew I was upset when she used it as a first name so she was happy I still can and want to use it) She loves Eva Hayley and Adele Hayley as well :)

Interestingly enough Adele is my 2nd cousin's name. LOL Maybe I shouldn't use Adele... :D
