I posted this thread in Crafts and Hobbies, but I need a larger audience! Can anyone help or know of anyone that knows this.....

Firstly, is there such a thing as spray on edible paint or glitter for cakes? And if so, where do I get it from?

Secondly, is there a way to find out how much cake mixture you need for a particular size tin? I have a really big tin but not sure how much mixture to make to fill it.

i found this really cool sprinkle packet with glittery type sugary sprinkles in it, but it was only in blue or pink, and came as a group of 5 different types of sprinkes. In woolies

About the cake tin, can you do 2 or three cake mixes for the tin, and see how it fills up when you pour it in?

I remember getting some dark pinkish like crystal shavings,,,,if that makes sense in some diy cup cake mixture...fairy wands or something! They were really yummy too and from safeway too or woolies :D

As for your cake mix fill it with water work out how much your tin holds, you can then get an idea of how much mix you need if you make too much you can always make some cup cakes to freeze

My local chocy shop sells spray on glitter or paint for cakes.
There are recipes that change according to your size tin. But often its just trial and error.
I have a variable fruit cake recipe, I could PM it to you if you want.

I bought a really large tin for my mum's wedding cake, and use the tin for my kids parties now...we just ahd a trial run with packet mix to find how much it would take. This particular one takes 4 boxes of mix, and I adjust the cooking time accordingly. Use the trial run for school/morning tea snacks, simply ice, slice and wrap in indivual pieces, or cut into usable pieces and freeze.
HTH.

Thanks, I will do! Is there a way to pm someone if you can't bring up their profile from a thread?

I'm actually making a cake in the shape of a platform shoe for a friend's 70's birthday party. The cake tin I have is 35x28x8cm and I've used four packet cake mixes in it before and it wasn't enough. This time I'm making the mix from scratch. Guess I could just keep making mix until it fills the tin!
