My DD1 started cruising around the furniture at 7 1/2 months and walked at 9 months and 3 days. She never crawled, used to roll around or drag herself along with her arms. She was (and still is) a tiny girl and peope used to gape in amazement that someone so small could walk. DD2 is 7 1/2 months now and has just started to pull herself up on the furniture (she likes the coffee table) so she will be walking soon too I guess. She crawled about 3 weeks ago and I thought she would be slower to walk because she was mobile through crawling but it doesn't look like it.

I am the eldest of 5kids. I walked at 9mths and 1week old, 2 of my sisters walked at the same age, my bro walked at exactly 10mths and my other sis walked at 8.5mths. The one who walked at 8.5mths ended up bow-legged coz the bones in her legs were still so soft and the muscles so strong. Mum had to do this massage thing to get them straight again.
I don't know if this would happen to all bubs who walk at that age, but just something to watch for.

Oh, my DS walked one week after his first b'day...later than me, but waaaay earlier than his father who walked at 18mths old ;)

Harry started crawling just before 9mths, but didn't walk until 17m 1w. He had issues with his feet which meant he took a little longer to walk. I also think he was use to crawling and didn't see the point in walking if he could crawl just as quick. Now he's running and loves nothing more than walking everywhere. I have to admit that I love seeing him walk as well after everything we went through with his feet. :)

alice is 16.5 months and still bum-shuffling, and cruising the furniture and walls. they say bum shufflers walk later. I was 17.5 months (a bum shuffler!) and my DH was 19 months before he started walking, so we weren't expecting our DD to be an early walker!!!

we are not sad though. we feel like we have had our baby with us for a bit longer than most people, as somehow when they not walking, they still seem like a baby :) (also, we don't have to chase her around everywhere just yet, but i know we will soon. it's only a matter of weeks now!!).

ods started furniture walking at 7 months and started fully walking by himself at 9 months. Yds is 11.5 months and is taking about 5 steps by himself before he falls down so it wont be too long before he is walking by himself properly. He doesn't crawl though he gets around by dragging himself using his arms and one leg lol.

My daughter didn't crawl until she was 8 months ("they" nearly suggested a wheel chair - groan) but then she got up and ran at 10 months. Crawling just wasn't her thing. Those wobbly steps are divine aren't they:p

What a cutie Jaclyn&Serena!

My 4 year old crawled at 4 1/2 months but only walked on his 1st birthday (at his party - it was so sweet!!)

My poor lil bubs Ty Ty is 9 months old and still struggling to get his crawling into gear. He gets himself into proper position but then can't move. Poor angel has been trying to do this for about 7 weeks. No amount of crawling on the floor by Will & I can make him do it!

Hi,

Seems to be alot of quick off the mark kids!! My little one is 16.5months old and in no rush to get moving! She only started crawling at 10months and pulling up at about 11months! It used to stress me so much (Hello to Alicesmum - we chatted in the August 2004 babies thread about our little ones not crawling yet- seems neither is interested in walking yet either!!:p ) She took her first independent steps a few weeks ago and now will rarely try it - stage fright!! When she does though she giggles hysterically with excitement!! Everyone tells me to be grateful that she isn't mobile yet but I can't wait to see those little fat legs in motion!:D

Any mums of REALLY late walkers - how long after first steps do they actually take off?

Bella and Dan both started walking the week before their first birthday and both times Daddy was in another town getting things ready for us to move:( he missed out both times!

Both of the kids crawled at 6 months, walked around furniture from 7 months, took a few steps at 10 months and then held off until nearly a year old.

I have a neice that started walking at 9 months and just kept running into things ... her poor forehead - it was always black and blue!

I have a nephew who was 17 months before he started to crawl and then took until 22 months before he started walking and hasn't stopped since!

Both of my guys started running straight away ... hence the fact that they spend a lot of time in strollers or reins when we are out ... my sanity is important ... as important as their safety!

My little one didn't crawl until he was almost 8 months, but from there he was walking(holding onto things) at 8.5months and walking unaided at 11months.. by the time he was 1, he was running around and climbing up steps.. He obviously put all his efforts into the "physical" stuff cause he was a late talker!!
