View Full Version : cuts and scratches
What do you put on little cuts and scratches? DS is nearing one and has the occassional stack and scratch - do you just wash off with a little warm water???

I use antiseptic powder.
If the cut/scratch looks dirty I use dettol.
I have used this for DD#1 since she was 18mths (always falling over air my little clumsy oaff)

I use an antiseptic ointment, like a gel, that I get from Canada. I sometimes use some of the spray on bandage stuff if it's a larger scrape.

Always wondered does that really work? If so do you get it from chemist or supermarket?

We rarely use anything...as you say, just make sure its clean with a little bit of water:) I'm a big fan of the bodies natural ability to heal itself. 2 things I have in the cupboard though, are Pawpaw ointment (fantastic, miraculous stuff!) and calendula cream:)

Donna, it does work a bit. At least you can see it drying in place but I have no idea how long the coverage lasts. DH bought it for himself as he's often getting bad scrapes from cycling crashes. Chloe doesn't really like bandages, she asks for one and then wants it off again 2 minutes later
I forgot to say, if a cut looks like it's getting infected, reddish and swollen, then we'll use a bit of Betadine on it. Basically an iodine solution and then put a bandage over it.

We use the spray on bandage, it's waterproof and last 2 days. I've put it on myself and it does sting a bit when you first put it on. It's great for when they boys get little grazes and scratches in awkward places. Also we use a cream called Paraderm + - it's the best thing ever...it has an antiseptic as well as an anaesthetic in it. It's great for cuts, scratches, sunburn, mozzie bites, rashes. It's the best (and most used) thing in our medicine cabinet.
If it's only a little scratch we don't really worry, we'll give it a bit of a wash but that's about it. Nat freaks out about bandaids so we don't really use them either.

I think the spray bandage works really well, especially for the awkward spots.
