View Full Version : Watered down OJ for 9 month old?
Just a quick question...
Is it ok to give a 9 month old watered down orange juice?
I am actually wanting to freeze it in one of those sippy icy pole things. DS is teething and he is loving ice blocks but i can't hold the piece of ice cause it's SO cold! And there is no way he can hold it himself because he will shove it down so far and choke!!:(
Thanks guys.
I've tried giving it to PJ, but he's not interested in it. I give him plain water - easily frozen also! I also give him peeled and seeded cucumber for his teeth!

I'm not a big fan of juice for children as my two eat plenty of fruit as it is. That said, as long as bub is not sucking on fruity icy poles till the cows come home then I see no harm. Just be aware that the juice does contain sugar and is acidic on little milk teeth.
I found some awesome soft teething rings when my children were teething which I also put in the fridge and freezer. They used to chew and dribble on them for hours!

I've read that OJ can have too much acid. Try apple juice instead, but like the other ladies said why not just plain water?

Oh and do 50 juice/50 water :)
I had heard something about Orange Juice not being suitable for babies under a certain age but i couldn't remember what age or why!
I had planned on plain water but DH mentioned juice. DS is not eating any fruit at the moment due to his teething i think, so thought this might have been an option.
Sarie- thanks for the cucumber idea. I will give that a go.

Hi Angela,
I have no idea re: your OJ question, but I always give Libby a stick of cold celery to gnaw on when she's teething. She loves it!
Just a suggestion if it helps!:)
cheers,
Thanks Nicole. Great idea!!:)
He makes an awful mess, but he loves it and it seems to help.
I've also tried the Brauer Teething Relief - fantastic stuff!!!!!!
I have always sat my kids in a highchair and given them a steady supply of ice cubes to play with ... they get the colness on their gus, the fluids from the water and all of the mess is just water, so easily cleaned! It keeps them amused for hours!
As for fruit juice ... water it down to 80% water to 20% juice and try to stick to apple, pear or other less acidic clear juices.
