How do you know if bubs has silent reflux or colic?
I know what reflux is. Does bub have to be diagnosed by a doctor?
Thanks

silent reflux is prety hard to get a true dianoses some dx symptom based eg.back arching constant screaming chest infections ear infestions feed refusal or confort feedign difernt babies react diferently, so that one way the drs dx it the other was would be throguh testing such as n empedence study or endoscopy whci either test isnt nice so they avoid them if they can, the other thing is thay wil often try them on reflux meds to see if it helps f it does great if it doesnt they will generaly do the testing to see if it is reflux or something else

Hi there, I totally agree with Mikenzees mum - silent reflux is hard to diagnose. My son has this problem and I first recognised it because he was constantly gulping mouthfuls of old formula long after he'd been feed. It was much worse when you put him flat on his back as he would vomit small amounts (spill) & he was very grizzly for most of the day. He was also mucking around with his feeds - some days I would spend 4 hrs just trying to get 100ml into him, but like mm said they are known to comfort feed as well. My daughter (now 5) had colic and she used to scream for hours each night, no matter what I did to comfort her. Colic is usually easily recognised because they become inconsolable for around 3 hours + and it generally starts at around dinner time. I'd take bub to a paed to get an official opinion but in the mean time maybe try keeping bub upright during & 30min after feeds to see if there is any improvement. You can also try a spoonful of thickened formula b4 and after bf or if bottle feeding then maybe switch bub to AR formula. Good luck & Hope this helps!!
