Ok this is how i understand it
I payed childcare fees for ds in 2004 and then I had to wait till I did my tax return in 2005 to get the 30% rebate etc
Well this is going to change instead of waiting till the next financial year to claim that 30% rebate you can claim it in the same yr
So this year when i do my tax return i can claim the 30% rebate for 2006 AND 2007
does that make sense?
I think thats how it works.

Are there certain requirements to be eligible for the rebate?

Im pretty sure everyone is entitled to the rebate, as long as they pay childcare fees
And i also read soemthing about parents who dont pay any tax can also claim something back but not to sure about the details of that.

This is how I understand it too. There is already an existing rebate scheme, there are just some changes being made to improve access. The rebate is only for out-of-pocket expenses, so if you get high childcare benefits through centrelink and only pay minimum direct to the childcare, your rebate may not be anywhere near the $4000 maximum per year (which is what was quoted in the OP reference to $8000).

No, it's not new. It's the 30% rebate, just revamped. I'll find a news story for you shortly.

Ok what ever you pay after the centrelink % you get a further 30% of that back with your tax
the centre will give you a statement of what ever you have paid,

that's true, however it is also being expanded from a tax offset to a cash payment. All the people who were not eligible before because they had no tax payable at the end of the year, will now potentially be able to make a cash claim.
I think that the work/training/study test is still going to be in place though. But at least it will make life easier for parents who are studying.

I knew there were two, I wasn't sure how to link them... I figured that eventually a mod would notice and merge them. :)

We never receive anything from the government (aside the baby bonus) so I have the feeling that this $8000 probably means just another news for us

we get the baby bonus, min child care rebate and a carer payment. Basically as long as there is no income test we are fine.
I still get the 30% tax offset because, once again, there is no income test. In fact this is one where you actually need to have a high enough income to be able to offset it against your tax payable. Depending on when you started having out of pocket for daycare you may have been able to claim last year.
However both parents do need to pass the work/study/training test, so SAHM aren't eligible. (as far as I know)

Oh ok, DH is in highest income earner and I work part time btw (2 days/week-because I love my independent), Thomas goes to childcare 2days/week same days I go to work of course.
Trust me I wont receive anything, right?

You should still receive the 30% of any amount that you have spent on Thomas's childcare (as long as it isn't just registered care but is an acutal childcare centre).
everyone gets something.
but in this case, its not really something extra, its just a change in the way its handled because it was really stupidly done before and now its a more common sense method.
So its no news for us either, or for many other people.
thats the way I understand it anyway.
