Hi All
Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a dairy/soy replacement in my diet, I have found that the protein from both dairy & soy products is largely responsible for Nathans reflux. I wish to keep bf as long as possible, being dairy free is difficult but it has to be done!:p
I have seen in other threads that other mums have done this too and am also wondering how long they were dairy free?
When after begining weaning did they introduce dairy to the bubs?
Karen
I personally couldn't go dairy free (for my health) and had to bottle both my children on soy formula due to protein allergy.
First thing you have to know is whether it is an intolerance or an allergy that is causing the reflux. If it is an allergy the bub shouldn't be reintroduced to dairy (I was told) until they are at least 2 years old ... at that stage if still allergic then it goes on to 5 yrs.
This was the best reference for me when I was starting to stress about their allergies.

Best thing to do is call your local clinic and find out where the paediatric allergy unit is and talk to them. I know one of the mums at a mums group I used to go to was bf her dairy intolerant baby till she was 12 months but that was a lactose intolerance not protein as far as I remember.

Thanks, An allergy test might be the best answer.
Good luck with it .... and if they do the skin prick test be sure to comfort bubs well ... the test doesn't really hurt, it's theitching that will upset him.

Hi,
How old is Nathan. My daughter has had reflux since she was a couple of weeks old. She is on Zantac. She has also been on four different formulas. She is now on a medicated formula called peptic junior. This formula is for babies who have allergies. The protein in the formula is broken up even smaller than in the normal formula you buy over the counter. You need to see a doctor/paedaetrician to get a script for it.

Hi
Nathan is five months old now, he is also on losec. Ultimately the formula might be the answer but hopefully persistance pays off & we can keep up with the breastfeeding
