I can't make this stuff, but I have 3 boxes here from hampers and a custard loving bub.

How do I do it without a) the milk burning in the saucepan or b) boiling over in the microwave

Well havn't you come to the right person :D , thats been my thing during my pregnancy lol. Custard queen they call me :)

1 tablespoon of custard powder in a saucepan with 1 tablespoon of sugar (any kind), and a few tablespoons of milk. Turn heat on very low and stir with wooden spoon until powder and sugar dissolves. Now add more milk, probs a cup!
and continually stir with wooden spoon over medium heat until it thickens. Dont let boil, if it starts too, then turn down and keep stirring, but should just about be ready now! :D
That should be enough to serve 1. I usually put 2 tablespoons custard powder, 2 tablespoons sugar and so more milk at the start to create the paste. And then 2 cups of milk. you can add more/less of any of the ingredients to vary consistency. Remember the custard powder is your thickening agent.

Another alternative is to add a bit of cornflour, makes it a lighter colour and thicker (if you prefer thicker custard)...... :D

I do it much the same but i mix the powder and sugar in a coffee cup, like gravy really to make a thin paste then heat about a cup of milk and add this slowly

Cant stress the SLOW LOL and i use a whisk sometimes too to stop any lumps.

Generally then i will let it sit and when the skin forms on top i remove that then i have lumpy skin free custard :)

I do mine in the microwave.

I just use 2tbls of custard powder to 1 cup of milk. Add just a tiny bit of milk to the powder first and then add in the rest. If you like you can also add a bit of sugar.

Put it in a large jug and zap it for 1 min. Take it out and stir and zap for another minute.
If its too thick just add a bit more milk and stir well.

You can also do "chocolate custard" by adding a bit of cocoa. I think i normally do the same amount cocoa as sugar.

and you can use custard powder in cupcakes if you get sick of having custard!

It worked :smiliedance:

I microwaved it because me, milk and saucepans have ended up with burnt bottoms way too many times.

I made vanilla and choc (thanks neeky)! Its just cooling down now. I won't have to buy the premade stuff again now :yelclap:

veve, biscuits sound yummy. Got any recipes to share?
