DD keeps getting a really bad nappy rash.:banghead: We use mainly Huggies nappies on her. Her bottom keeps getting red raw, and it gets that bad that it bleeds.:crying:

We have tried all the creams, powder, everything that we can think of to get rid of it and to keep it away but nothing is working.

The poor thing is in so much pain when it is like it, please anyone with idea's on what could be causing this or how to get it away and keep it away please share.:detective: I'm ready to take her to the Dr for but feel like they will just say, "It's just nappy rash", and then I will feel like I have wasted everyone's time.

So please someone HELP me relieve her pain ! ! !

Thanks in advance.

It might be something she is eating.

DD used to get horrible rash after eating certain fruits. Pear was the worst. Also, when teething she get a horrble rash. Like a burn. OUCH :( The best thing to help clear up DD's bott is Aloe vera gel  It stings her when it first goes on, but after a minute it stops. Then seem to heal it up nicely.

it is possible she is allergic to the material of the disaposables.. use cloth it will be so much better and breathable for her bottom

have you taken her to the Dr about it?

it might not be nappy rash it could be thrush or another fungal infection.

are you giving her lots of nappy free time?

sposies dont 'breath' like cloth nappies do. because of the plastic on them.
i might be worth giving them a try if it doesn't clear up.

poor little thing :(

Try Hydrozole which can be bought OTC in any chemist. It has anti-fungal and cortisone ingredients.

I would take her to the dr immediately. If it's a rash that's not clearing, is raw and bleeding it may not be just a nappy rash.
If it's a bacterial rash she will need a prescribed cream to get rid of it.

In the mean time, keep her nappy off as much as possible. If she's not crawling, just put a terry flat (or a towel) underneath her. Fresh air is magical for bums!

We use cloth nappies and have pretty much never had rashes (apart from a couple of times when she's pooed overnight and hasn't woken:rolleyes:).

Have a look at the cloth threads if you're interested. There's lots of information. And ppl who thought they would never use cloth have made the jump:)

If you're not, try changing to a different disposable. It's could be something in the nappy that's causing her to have the reaction.

If she's on solids, try cutting out certain foods that may be causing it.

Aww the poor little possum:( I definitely agree with Gremily.Nappy off time and see a doctor.

How long has the rash lasted?Ellie used to have horrid nappy rash at times (in huggies) the only thing that would clear it up is nappy free time (preferably in some sun too) and when she did have to have a nappy on I used pawpaw cream.

I do use cloth now though with no rashes so far:thumbsup:

Does she drink Fruit Juice??

Or have you changed what you normally wash her with?? Frangraces can often cause it.

Poor little bugger... i hope it clears up for her soon.

:(

I agree, it could be thrush or a fungal infection. I used Daktozin on my DS.

But definately take her to the doctor first and get it checked it. If its getting red raw, it would probably be burning when she does a wee too so go and get it checked ASAP.

I'm going to see if I can get her into the Dr's tomorrow,:fingerscrossed: well, today, Tuesday ! ! !

There has to be something going on for it to keep coming back and for it to be this bad. We never had this problem with the boys, I mean yes they got nappy rash here and there but nothing like this. It's driving me insane so I can only imagine what it is doing to her.:gloomy: :crying:

So hopefully tomorrow we will be closer to finding out what is going on.

How did you go at the dr's? My dd had nappy rash like yours and when i went to the doctors she made me feel like a hypochondriac which really bugged me. When they are screaming in pain at nappy time, it's not normal imo.

Anyway, it was sparked by her pooing during the night and now just keeps coming back periodically. I've had loads of theories - food, teething etc. Hydrozole and daktozin help clear it up when it flares, but i wish it would go away permanently. Unfortunately my lovely cloth nappies don't stop it coming back - it doesn't seem to descriminate between sposies and cloth lol. But someone suggested raw silk liners which I've got coming - you could use these in sposie too i guess. They are meant to be used without cream and have natural healing properties... :fingerscrossed:

My DD had the mother of all nappy rashes from about 2 weeks old to 6 weeks old. Red raw, bleeding and weeping. Totally heartbreaking. We tried antibiotics and cortisone cream which both didn't work.

Turns out DD just had very sensitive skin and when the child health nurse gave us daktozin at the beginning it tore her skin (because it is really abrasive) and it got infected.

We did the following - which worked for us and might help others:

1. Dr recommended using a good barrier cream (amolin baby cream) and canneston fungal cream (just the ordinary kind) on alternate nappy changes. After 2 or 3 weeks of no change we started to see an improvement after about 4 days.

2. Also got rid of all chemicals. This meant:
(a) Using cloth nappies as there are chemicals in disposables to make them absorb moisture. Also got a recipe from a dermatologist to wash the nappies (pm me if interested). We eventually got DD back on disposables at about 4 months old.
(b) No baby wipes. Used muslin squares and water to wipe her bottom. At about 7 months we started trying normal wipes again. Huggies still make her break out in a rash, but Amolin or Curash are okay.
(c) Only use QV wash in the bath - no products with petro chemicals like Johnson&Johnson. And only moisturiser we use is QV cream. We are still sticking with this.

How this helps others who come across chronic nappy rash problems.

Hi there ....

I take off bubs nappy every night for about 1/2 - 1 hour , wipe his bottom down and rub Calendula oil on that area ..... it prevents bad nappy rashes from happening. A bit of fresh air goes a long way, especially after being in a disposable all day ! Aloe Vera Gel is great too (but buy them from the Health Food shop) !

Good Luck !!

Jordan gets like this with ANY Huggies product!! We changed to Snugglers and gave him lots of nappy free time, didn't use ANY soap in the bath (but made up some chamomile tea to put in the water as it is a natural anitbacterial and cleanser) and used the Curash Nappy Rash cream on his day time changes and Paw Paw ointment at night.

This seemed to make it clear up. We just never use Huggies products on him anymore....

Actually, we've switched to cloth now.... (much cheaper with 2 almost 3 in nappies)

But we used sposies for 2 years.

Have you tried using the boys huggies on her? That's what I use on DD as they hold more, therefore keep it away from their skin longer.

Also Daktozin creme works absolute miracles on nappy rash. I couldn't quite believe how quickly DD's sores healed.

Our bub has had diarrehea for the past week, and because of that she has gotten nappy rash, thanks to the advice of another Bubhuber I bought some Jurlique Barrier Cream from the chemist, and it worked wonders the first time I put it on, it's not cheap though but worth a try......

angcaltam- hopefully by now you have a baby bum on the mend, but incase you are still strugling!!
i have 3 wonderfull expensive children, who all cant wear any other disposable other than huggies (with dd i tried heaps and always ended up with nasty rashes!), ds1 came alone, i stuck to the huggies (loved and trused brand in this household) and at one stage we ran out of nappies and money so i have to buy a cheap brand - big no no!!! then our little man came along - he was 8 weeks early and at 3 days old (my first nappy change) his butt was red raw! - i had forgotton to mention the nappy thing to the nurses! - and he was in a preemie moltex (i think) nappy! so i declared! NOTHING IS TO TOUCH HIS BUTT UNLESS IT IS HUGGIES! - and since then nothing (well too bad anyway)

but in saying all that, i have since gotten into cloth (again - had a phase with dd) i have no issues with ds2 in any of the MCN and the good old terrys, but ds1 however cant use the terrys, and the mothers ease nappies! (so im now in the process of making a million nappies for my boys that hopefully wont casue a raw butt)

i have also noticed that certian foods can give ds the nasty rash as well, like apricot (being really nasty - thus it is no longer in my house - and of course we just spent a day with grandad and mummy forgot to mention that didnt she!! OWIEEEE) and also sultans - no where near as bad though.

a few things i have noticed, if (particularly after eating these 2 foods) a dirty nappy is left on toooooooooooo long (usually the very early ****! - good morning mummy!) the rash will appear, and once the rash has appeared the nappy needs to be changed very regualry (especially the dirty ones! ) or the rash progresses!
and secondly, use a good barrier cream, we use a combo of sudocream and curash powder (sudo manily when rash is present) we tried the aloe vera, (and i think it works) but ds i think over dramatizes and complains untill it is wiped off and something else is put there (and now hes at the pant pulling down phase!)

so anyway, thats my 2 cents worth, hope bubs has a smooth tosh now!

Pure Aloe Gel.

Go to your local nursery and pick a nice healthy one. Snap of a piece and apply it directly where she is sore, great for preventative measures too.

This plant will last for years, it really is an incredible plant with amazing healing properties.

I've recommended this many times, and its worked everytime, nobody has ever been disappointed.

Good luck :)
