Thursday the 3rd of May I was booked in to have an induction as my bubs decided that she didnt want to come yet. So DH and I packed all the stuff and our other 2 children in the car and took them off to my parents house. We arrived at the hospital at 8pm and had to be monitored and have an internal. They found that I was slightly dialted but not enough to break my waters so they gave me the prostan gel and sent me over to the ward to sleep. We went over to the ward at 10pm and I got setled in then DH went home to sleep. Unable to sleep I put my Ipod on and layed in bed. I felt a little uncomfortable but just thought it was bubs head moving around down there as it always does. 12pm came and I asked for some panadol as the bed was hurting my back. Still couldnt sleep I walked up and down the ward with my ipod so I couldnt hear all the other mums with their babys.
1pm I went back to bed and layed there in pain thinking that this was how it felt when I had my first baby. But refused to believe I was in labour as the pain was bearable I pushed the buzzer for the middie and told her I was in pain can I have a hot pack. She said to go and have a bath feeling alittle relieved that there was a bath I got up to get my stuff and my water broke. Luckily the middie was still their doing obs on someone else. I let her know she sent me down to the bath and said she would come and check me in a min.
I ran a nice big bath which made the pain feel better for a little while. The Middie called DH poor thing was so tired he thought the mobile ringing was his alarm and kept turning it off :laughing: . She finally got ahold of him and he came to the hospital bearing powerades... Which a real relief to see as I really hoped he brought them.He comforted me in the bath as I had pain. It got to 2.30am and I said that I could handle it anymore and get the middie.
She called birthing and I went straight over sitting in a wheel chair (thank-god) By this time the contractions were only 3 mins apart.
Had the gas straight away without even getting on the bed. Because I was in so much pain the middie (sarah) said she wanted to do an internal only 5cm.. I thought that wasnt to bad as I was supposed to be resting then come across to birthing at 6 to have my waters broken. I laboured for a little while the room was dark with only a little light on DH fell asleep in the chair which was fine coz I would of told him to bugger off anyway.
I wasnt getting any relief from the gas anymore so I asked for something stronger and she gave me pethadine which made me have a small rest in between contractions.
I got close to 6 am and all of a sudden I felt this really big Thud in my pelvis then my body started pushing at the end of a contraction. It would come like a wave and just as the wave would crash I would push (not meaning to)I had never expirenced this before. With both of my others I knew I had to push and started pushing. Sarah asked me if I was pushing and I said Im trying not to but I just keep doing it.. She said she was just going to check me and said that I was 10cm she was actually quite shocked because she quickly turned around and started getting the table ready. Thats when I knew it was close.
She didnt tell me to push she just let me go with what my body wanted to do.(with my other 2 everyone just stood back and said ok push now) I felt less pressured this time and not so rushed. I continued to just let my body go then after about 10 mins her head was out.. ( I didnt even feel the ring of fire this time :laughing: )
then sarah and DH were coaching me to do gentle pushes. I held his hand really tight and the gas tube in the other and gave gentle pushes she came out 2 mins after the head.
She came out and let a little cry out, then they put her straight up onto my chest and let her lay there with me for an hour with a thermal blanket on, she layed there with eyes wide open licking the blanket.
I was so relieved, It was a feeling I didnt expirence with my first two births, first birth they took her away second birth they took me away. This birth I got to enjoy holding her and kissing her, she even fed both sides while she was laying there.
My placenta was intact this time (last birth retained placenta and a PPH) and came out straight away
I had a minor PPH and lost 700mls first they gave me a sapository to contract the veins and stop the bleeding.But I was still trickling so they had to put a cannula in to give me a syntocin I layed in bed from the birth 6.08 am till the drip had gone through 9am. My uterus was starting to shrink back down. By the time I got over to the ward at 12pm (heaps of births that day) I was still feeling the trickle so they put me back on the syntocin which I had for 4 hrs while they checked my obs every 30mins.If My uterus didnt contract down they were going to book me in for a D & C which is not what I would have wanted. (had that with previous PPH) Luckily it all went down and the bleeding slowed down to barely nothing.
Although I had a little anxiety over the possibility that I would have to have a D & C the birth was such a wonderful expirence (the best birth I've had) I came home yesterday after spending 1 night in hospital. Bubs is wonderful and Im doing really great to.
