Ds seems to have lost interest in his milk lately - especially the night time one. He used to go bananas waiting for it like it was liquid gold, but recently he just has one sip and tosses it aside.

Could this be related to teething? (I think there are a couple about to pop through)

He is nearly 1, so should I just give him some yoghurt or custard instead before bed and forget about milk?

Do they need to continue having milk to drink or can they get enough calcium through food?

By 1 ds was only having 2 bottles...
I think if they're getting calcium from other food it's okay....

My DD stopped having her bottles of formula at 9 months old.... I was heaps worried but the doc assured me that as long as she was eating enough during the day and was generally healthy, don't worry about it. She never wanted her bottle again! :)

They still should be drinking milk or having other dairy such as yogurt, cheese, etc. My "Breast Bottle Bowl" book suggests 3 servings of dairy per day, each serving being:
- 200 ml milk
- 200 g (6.5 oz) yogurt
- 40 g (1.5 oz) cheese
- 200 ml custard

If he doesn't want the bedtime milk then you can still offer milk after meals or as a snack between meals. Maybe he'd prefer a cup to a bottle now.

Definantly three serves of Dairy a day, milk, cheese,yoghurt.. is all they need.
If you dont have a copy of "breast, bottle, bowl" by Anne Hillis (as Martha mentioned above) then get a copy, its great !

By 1 Samuel was only having two cups of milk, one with Breakfast and one before bed at night. He was happier taking it from a cup.

Have you changed to full cream cows milk yet or are you still using formula?
If still on formula perhaps see if the change to cows milk helps? Samuel LOVED cows milk and took more than when on formula.

Good luck

Shannon stopped drinking milk totally at about 1 year. He loves yougart and cheese so I try and compensate that way.

DD will be 9months soon and today has started refusing the bottle. She has only just been weaned off the boob. She was excited about the bottle and has been drinking all of it since we started weaning. She had a tummy bug a couple of days ago and the doctor said no dairy for 48 hours. Has this caused the dislike of milk? I am a little concerned as she isn't eating enough during the day yet. I also tried a sippy cup but she wouldn't swallow it.

Sheldon has started to go off the bottle now that he has turned 1. still has three or 4 bottles of milk but not the whole lot. I decided to give him nestle toddler milk and he seems to like that which is good. its cheap, it has all the iron they need and has the good bifidous stuff in it. he now prefers it over formula. They do still need to keep their fluids up and get there milk.
