My daughter (19 months) keeps on getting repeat ear aches and sore throats. She has had several bouts of tonsilitis and a couple of serious ear infections aswell. She forever seems to have a sore throat (finished anthibiotics last week for tonsilitis and was just getting better and now has another cold now and her throat is red and i suspect her ears are hurting her again).

Has anyone else had children that are prone to these infections and if so, what do you do. Did you see a ear, nose and throat specialist. I am thinking of asking for a referral for one but i know that the don't like to do anything with the tonsils until they are at least 5 years old. Not sure if there is anything else they can do???

Does anyone know about how to boost your childs immune system. She seems to catch everything.

Thanks
Janet.

Hi Janet,

My son was the same toward the mid-end of last year. He was on 5 courses of antibiotics for ear infections, school sores and a bout a cellulitis - all straight after each other. I was at my wits end and got a referral to an ENT - Dr Andrew Lomas in Brisbane who is excellent by the way.

By the time we got to the ENT, he was on the road to recovery - by the way, did you know that signs of ear infection can last for up to 6 months after the first serious infection ? My Dr's kept prescribing more antibiotics although the ear infection was in healing mode - I knew no better so continued with it.

I finally found a GP who is monitoring him closely but touch wood - we are almost 12 weeks with no antibiotics now !

Best of luck - it is a truly emotional and trying time. I ended up losing it with Ry's Drs which is why we found the new one - the change in care I elieve contributes to the change in outcome.

There are some chiropractors who claim good results with ear and tonsil problems.

I wish I'd known that when I had chronic tonsilitis, followed by DD#1 getting chronic tonsilitis, too. We saw an ENT specialist, and both had our tonsils out within six months of each other. We had each been chronically ill with tonsilitis for in excess of 6 months when we consulted the specialist.

Astragulus is a good tonic for boosting the immune system. It has been used for years in Chinese medicine for that purpose. It comes in a liquid from the health food shop.
