has anyone read a book that's scared the pants off them? just you, the book and your imagination?
i can think of two i read when i was younger that scared the cr*pper out of me:
"something wicked this way comes" ray bradbury - about an evil fair that travels from town to town chasing and capturing children
"day of the triffids' - all those horrible plants going 'bock, bock'....

I read the "The Frankston murders" by Vikki Petraitis and it scared the 'bejesus' out of me!!!
One night I was home alone (my flatmates had gone out) and I told my mum over the phone that I was going to bed to read that particular book (I had read it before), mum warned me that I'd be scared (again!) and I told her not to be ridiculous. At 2.30am I turned up on mum and dad's doorstep because after reading the book I kept imagining noises and rustling in the bushes outside my window (mum and dad lived over an hour away) - you should have seen me bolt to the car from the front door - my heart was racing, my hands were sweaty and I ran like Carl Lewis to get to the safety of my little pulsar!!! and then I was petrified when I got in the car because for those of you not familiar with this serial killer, he hid in the back seat of one of his poor victim's cars...palpatations again!
That was the scariest book I've ever read!!!
That is so funny Carly!!! I just read it my my partner...he says I can't laugh at you because I have a morbid serial killer fascination and I always read about them online and then have nightmares LOL!!! I have had SOOO many serial killer dreams that I should know better by now! I bet I'd LOVE that book too!
When I was a kid I read a book called "the nightmare man" and I couldn't sleep after that.
I read silence of the lambs and red dragon not long ago they were good but not nightmare material. I'll read anything that's been printed:rolleyes:
The Amityville Horror freaked me out. I found the book even more scary than the movie. I also read a non-fiction book about Poltergeists and that really freaked me out too. It had some photos of this girl being levitated out of her bed and some writing supposedly done by the critters. Brrrrrr cold shivers down spine.
