Hi Everyone,
My little girl is now 4 months old and I was wondering when I should start her on solids. My mother said that she started me on solids at 4 months old but have also been told not to start till 6/7months so im a bit
Any advice would be great

Kathryn
You're very welcome.
Not only do I like to help I also like to search for people so just in case others don't reply to a thread they may have replied earlier to a similar one and I don't want anyone to feel unloved/ignored :)
I am in the same boat at the moment with my 4mth old DD. Hopefully will start solids in the next couple of days and see how it goes - if she wants no part in it then I will stop and try again later.

The rule of thumb now as released by the WHO is that babies should be started at 6mths onwards but if you feel bubs may be ready because she no longer say has the tongue thrust & is very keen on food, grabbing at your food etc but then main thing being head/neck control with sitting up as you obviously dont want choking probs so every baby is different IMO. Go with what you feel is right otherwise have a chat with you CHN or doctor as to what they would advise with bubs progress etc.
Good luck :)

Hello again,
Thanks for your replys
MissUnderstood and allyoo - Thanks again for your help. I think if i get one more very unsettled time that boobie doesnt fix i might try some rice cerial to see if that does the trick. I was hopeing to make it to 6 months at least exclusively with breastfeeding but I feel sometimes she just isnt satisfied. She hasnt shown any interest in any foods so far except for the other day when she tryed to grab a chip out of my hand. I think that was more that i wasnt giving her my full attention though lol.

some people may not agree with me, but i believe the baby lets you know i started tyler on farax at 3weeks, her bottle just where not keeping her happy,,, then at 6weeks i started to give her fruit, vegs, i cooked them myself and pureed them,, she loves carrots [just like mummy] and sweet potato im talking like only 2teaspoons, she is 4months now she has about 4-5spoons full now,,
some people say dont start then till 4-6months,, cause they can get to fat well tyler is 4months and 7.21kgs so she arent a big baby,,, hope this helps a little

Hi All!
Was wondering if you could help me with this one. My son is 5mths old and I started him on solids just over a week ago. We started with just a couple of teaspoons of farex once a day but he seemed to just want more. Now he is having about half a bottle of food with 3/4 of his bottle once a day and a couple of teaspoons of farex and fruit with his bottle in the morning. He seems to have gotten hungrier. Instead of feeding him 4hrly as I was, he now seems to want it 3hrly. What the????
katrinab - once you start them on solids such as farex it gives their metabolism a good kick hence the reason he's hungrier quicker

I started MJ on solids at around 5months but she's never been really interested in them. I'm lucky to get 2tbs into her at a feed & she's almost 8months old & only just hit 7kg. Some days she has none at all & she's still happy, healthy & very active :D
